The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

The other day, immediately after Trump tweeted something typically rabble-rousing, Ivanka tweeted some positive thoughts about the Pride marches; her action is absolutely craven - it's pure, 'positive' image-creation and I hope she's fooling no-one with this utterly hypocritical behaviour.
Can't wait to see them try and step in to his shoes once he's belly up.

It's almost like having an orangutan for a president.

Doing the rounds on Facebook:

That post is exactly how I have felt about the US since studying it at O level at school. It fascinated rather than disgusted me. After all nearly every state was/is a war mongerer or pirate at some point. But the US did/do love their wars in particular. And selling it as the American dream under the guise of Hollywood was/is genius. Hats off to them I say.

It's not fascinating when it happens to your country and you're still directly affected by their involvement.

Yeah I didn't mean to be flippant about it. Apologies. I still can't get the horrors of the Vietnamese napalm victims out of my head. :(

Re: the 1990 quote - it's real - and yesterday Pompeo was giving a speech on Hong Kong protestors' treatment by China. They really are the best people.

Has the tide started to turn? Personally I wouldn't bet on it, but it's sure as feck got to be worrying the hell out of Trump, and after his appearance with the drugged up Melanoma yesterday you could clearly see the tension between them. She looked like she was out of her face and those glasses were definitely covering up big red eyes full of tears..

The protests are still ongoing and the Covid numbers continue to rise, especially new cases in Red States. I think that's what he's most afraid of and why he's looking for anything he can to distract from the one thing he can't control or beat by using Twitter against it... Covid-19

“Laura and I are anguished by the brutal suffocation of George Floyd,” Bush began before saying he was reluctant to speak out.

“It remains a shocking failure that many African Americans, especially young African American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country,” continued the former president.

Bush then stated that protests are “a strength” of America, before offering criticism of those opposing them.

“Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America,” said the president, “or how it becomes a better place.”

“America’s greatest challenge,” Bush continued, “has long been to unite people of very different backgrounds into a single nation of justice and opportunity. The doctrine and habits of racial superiority, which once nearly split our country, still threaten our Union. The answers to American problems are found by living up to American ideals.”

George Bush.

George Bush

He could be considered a RINO nowadays compared the to current torch bearers.
Really doesn't feel like we're far from him endorsing Biden. I'm sure they get on actually.

Whether that would do more harm (from the left) than good (from the right) is another question. But it's where we are. (let's not revisit the reprehensible actions W. took as Puppet in chief, just saying it's crazy that he's a voice of a reason today)

Well... someone here did say that for whatever reason the incumbent GOP's presidents always seem to make the previous ones look better with time or words to that effect.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember to remember him being fairly liberal by US standards when it came to immigration and racial issues. Seemed kind of an odd fit considering some of the people in his administration.

I remember reading something about his dad saying that his biggest mistake was having some of the people he surrounded himself with.

Brother is married to a Mexican.

There’s a few Slovenian’s on here that can probably give a better answer, I only have a sample size of my girlfriend and her family. The general feeling with them is similar to everyone else. There’s no pride or anything like that, more embarrassment, but then again it is a pretty left leaning country.

Of course, her home town has taken advantage of the extra publicity, not that I’ve ever gone there to see what they’ve done.
Cheers mate.

He was asked why he responds to criticism from the media instead of focusing on the state of the nation.

“I just do it, people hit me I hit back”

the most honest answer he’ll ever give, and all it does is prove he’s not up to the task.

Yes Cheney worked for Bush the elder but never had the power he had under GW. Plus James Baker was a calming influence and opposed the Iraqi invasion under GW. Compared to Bunker Boy, GW was a statesman.

Trump:
“When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it,. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak.”
:
That can't be real... Ok 1990 but still, feck a deck.
