VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

Stop with all the VAR conspiracy talk and instead ask yourself how you would react if a penalty was given in the Bruno incident and it was against United. My guess is that you all would be screaming for VAR to overturn it.
I am not against being biased, I am too, but some in here are just over the top.
I'm pretty sure that would be a penalty if Saka got taken down and DDG made the mistake. Why would you expect VAR to overturn it?

Bruno just fell over like usual, bit of a brush and he just collapses. Rashford aswell in the second half..Tomiyasu just nudges him he goes past Ramsdale but sees the ball is running away and just collapses and starts appealing.......guy is having a great season so no need to do stuff like that.

I thought the best penalty shout for Man. United was when Martinelli barged into Antony. That was very clumsy and nowhere near the ball but because it was right on half time no replay was given during the game so haven't seen another viewing.
I have and it was a fair shoulder charge and yards outside the box

The Bruno one was never a penalty. I want to see the challenge on AWB though. Can’t believe we didn’t get a replay and wasn’t mentioned or looked at in the studio.

I can't believe that Bruno thing is even a discussion.
It's mental how much grapsing at straws football fans do. Bruno and Rashford are both very poor dives. The Antony (or was it AWB) one i haven't seen again but is the only one where i was worried. Looked clumsy and Martinelli maybe lucky to get away with it.

Because it’s not a penalty
Why not? I see Daily Star are calling him a diver and a master of shithousery, as a lot of Arsenal fans seem to banter about that, but the replays shown at halftime seemed to indicate Bruno got the ball ahead of the keeper, and a clear coming together after that. That's usually a foul, innit.

I just remembered the FA apologized for disallowing their goal in the first game. We were never getting anything today.

I wouldn't have been scandalized had the pen been given but lets face it, Bruno IS a diver and a master of shithousery. He just happens to be your master of shithousery but anyone would hate him here was he playing for another team.

I’m usually the first to have a rant in this thread after a game, but apart from the one right before half-time that we didn’t get a replay of, there was feck all for us to complain about. Apart from VAR denying us that one against Palace which meant we couldn’t take Casemiro off which meant he was suspended today.

No.

Football fans have just been conditioned to think this is the case.

I've bumped into people harder in the supermarket and surprisingly they didn't hit the deck and roll around.

That's because the "experts" tell us he felt a touch so he's entitled to go down, it's BS, love the supermarket analogy

So in football it's given as a foul and in the supermarket it isn't? Are you Michael Owen?

I miss the days of the countless replays, the lines being drawn & the breaks in play. We get a few decisions today in that era.

Yeah the Antony one looked very clumsy from Martinelli, but was hard to judge without a replay. Bruno and Rashford was never penalties. I would have been furious if the Bruno one would have been given to Saka in the other end.

Not going to be talking about this for five days are we?

There was no replay shown of this neither was there any discussion done on this in the studio. Two stonewall penalties not given in two games, three if you include the bruno one.

We won’t get anything for a while now. Our penalty count has gone down by 2/3rds since Klopp stuck his newtons in.

Feck me that’s shocking
We don’t even get 50/50 anymore, even over whelming decisions in our favour are being ignored.
I can’t remember the last time we got a decision that you could say was any kind of fortunate but you could see why it was given. Even Bruno’s goal had pundits slamming the rules more than it going in our favour.

There were no penalties that should have been given yesterday.

This was blatant pen. And why did they not check whether there was offside for the pass before the assist for their third goal? It looked very close to me.

They did, it was all onside.

They did check, apparently, and it was onside, but Sky hadn’t joined the VAR feed at that point. They then went on to the second potential offside which is what we all saw.

They did not show anything during the check about this one while wasting 5 minutes on the ending pass. The picture posted in this thread seem rather fan made and the ball is still in his feet, but I am not sure to be fair.

Is it the 1 penalty we've had this season? In any case, called it after the City game, because of the fall out from that we were never getting a pen/opposition red card for a few games. The mctominay one against palace was stonewall, but this one was also a pen. Fact that a replay wasn't even shown is laughable - swept nicely under the rug.

SKY showed it with the var lines after, he was on. They both were.

Are you seriously saying that after looking at the tackle on awb that it was not a penalty. If so I suggest you go in for an eye check.

Saw it at time and several times since.

It's not a penalty, he was outmuscled by the Arsenal player shielding the ball on the turn.

He’s not shielding it, AWB is in control of it before the contact.it literally bounces off him as Martinelli rushes in

AWB's shit first touch allowed him to get his body between him and the ball, he's shielding it so he can take it away. Another Arsenal player took it, if he jogs away with that ball nobody bats an eyelid. It's not a penalty.

Can't completely tell what is going on there, particularly what makes the ball squirt/jump loose. It could definitely be a foul but I'd want another angle.

Zinny was onside on the last Arsenal goal.

I disagree. He has the ball under control until the contact if you look at it again. That’s ignoring the fact he’s in the box and his touch take the ball closer to goal

Imagine a winger pokes the ball past a full back, who completely misses it and barges him out of the way. That's a foul and a yellow card all day long. So why is it different when it's a keeper in the box?

It doesn't matter that he went down easily like all players do now.

That’s the textbook definition of a foul. Got none of the ball and all of the player. It was a stonewall penalty.

Bruno decides to jump to toe poke a ball that is 10 cm above the ground and land on Ramsdale's shoulder. He's already appealing mid-air.

And we knew after Pep and the media crying about our City goal that we would be punished. We should probably do the same tbh.

There were no 'stonewall penalties' in that game you nutters. A few decisions sometimes you get, sometimes you don't. Meh.

There’s nothing wrong with jumping to control a bouncing ball. We’ve all seen penalties given when a striker gets to a ball before a keeper and falls over after contact with the keeper. Which is exactly what happens here. One thing’s for sure. If the onfield decision here was a pen, there’s no way VAR could overturn.

I don't agree.

He gets his body between the opposition player and the ball, nothing wrong with that. He has the intention of playing it away, another player took the ball and played it away.

He didn't even look for it, barely anyone did.

There's no foul there.
