VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

If we had owners that actually cared they'd submit an inquest like Liverpool did. Our owners just don't care.

If that was ruled out for rangers talksport would clear their entire schedule for the next week.

Didn't Rashford get sent off for a "stamp" way less severe than that stamp on Martinez there in CL last season.

The reaction to that is why we've got nothing since. Every anti-united pundit in the media banged on about for literally months afterwards.

It wasn’t even non-United pundits. Alan Brazil used it as an example for bad VAR calls for months, even after the terrible Liverpool offside decision . Former United player ffs.

As much contact on Maguire there as there is for our disallowed goal.

Surprising lack of complaint from Maguire bearing in mind he was surely pushed off the ball there?!

That is why we don’t win decisions. Everyone on our team is too soft. He should be screaming at the ref for the decision. Or better still go down, it seems to work for every other club.

I mean let's not be ridiculous, it's not a foul and it's a perfectly fine goal. Your CB should be stronger. But disgraceful, the lack of consistency.

There was no push on Maguire worth mentioning. Thats never given and nor should it be. That doesn't take away from the fact our disallowed goal was a joke.

Will have to see it again but Yoro's challenge on Rangers player really looked soft. The push on Maguire even softer so definitely a legitimate goal for Rangers.

Neither the push on Maguire or the contact by Yoro was a foul. But it’s the inconsistency that’s the problem, and always has been.

The classic reply is « we would be fuming if it was given against United » but the thing is it usually is given against United! That’s what makes people mad. Soft fouls get given against us, but we need a two footed tackle in the penalty box to remotely get something - even then there will be VAR reviews and debates

i just want to watch a match without a ref doing something mental. just one more football match without it and id die happy.

If we’re going to have a whinge about Maguire being involved in foul play without it being called out then I don’t think we can ignore him trying to yank the shirt off yer man in the corner of our box earlier in the second half. That was incredibly risk and this place would be hopping if one of their defenders got away with doing that to Diallo.

Fair point, although if Maguire is going to start being called for shirt grabbing in the box then we'll concede at least 3 penalties in every match he plays.

Their striker had just as much of Maguire's shorts, and it spoke volumes that the striker didnt really appeal for anything.

Sure. But Maguire was all over him first. And there definitely would have been appeals for a pen on here if an opposition player did that to one of ours. Reminded me of the time when everyone was livid about the ref taking way too long to give us a free when Robertson was hanging out of Diallo.

I long for the day our manager starts going to town on these referees. So the push by De Ligt is a foul but the push on Maguire isn't? It's a simple argument for Amorin to make, where is the consistency.

Normally, I’d agree with Amorim in the sense that he doesn’t talk about referees. However, it's become such an issue that it's ridiculous how many bad calls we get, and at this point, it’s really hurting us. I don’t like managers complaining in the press, but sadly, it works. Klopp did it, and Arteta does it all the time, and you can see how it definitely has an influence. Amorim needs to start speaking about this, let it be discussed in the media, and the pressure will eventually get to the referees. They must be held accountable for their mistakes.

Bruno did that against Aresenal and got a yellow!

What on earth was the de Ligt goal cancelled for?

How is our manager calling out refs and VAR going to change anything? Regardless of who you are or who you work for it's just constant incompetence.

Meanwhile you've got Howard Webb fluffing the entirety of PGMOL and taking more cock than Bonnie Blue.

Referees are always super happy to go with decisions that are against us, because there are minimal backlash and the ABU brigade will herald him as the true saviour of English refereeing standards. Michael Oliver was basically called the best referee in England and one of the best in the world, by routinely refereeing against us. Only after he went to ref a few games in UAE and started being City bias does the rest of the league notice that he is a horrible ref. If he just continues to feck us over no one would bat an eye.

Every game it is the same shit - our players get booked whenever we get a bit physical while our opponents get away with kicking us all game. Every VAR decision is the same - if the decision is for us, the referees will look really hard to see if there is any other things where they can disallow the decision. However, if the decision is against us, the referees will take a quick look and decide swiftly.

Because Klopp complained about the number of penalties United were getting and they basically completely stopped. It was ridiculous what teams were getting away with. Coincidence? Perhaps but it seems hard to believe that just as the biggest manager in the league whinged we magically started getting awful penalty calls for a looooong time.

Ferguson did it all the time and some do it now. Referees listen.

Holy moly, that disallowed goal takes the piss.

It really feels as though we're being fecked every which way by pivotal refereeing decisions nearly every match now. Even the one time a penalty was given against Brighton, I would still argue that the referee didn't institute the correct punishment of a red card as well as per the laws of the game.

I think Amorim has to call it out. I'm not saying we haven't been garbage this season but I cannot help but feel we'd have at least a few more points this season if key decisions in our matches were adjudicated properly.

Perfectly described.
