VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

We need a caf supported youtube channel that just keeps track of this shit. It happens with alarming frequency that we get screwed by these shit refs.

There was an incident before the penalty for a penalty shout, no one bothered to show it

The rules couldn’t be clearer on this:

“Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off.”

How was it possible to play the ball with that challenge? How does one ref forget that rule along with a whole VAR team?

'refs call'

On field decision stands

Crazy isn't it. Noone likes call of corruption, but this is one of the most basic rules. The game was already stopped, so why the hell was the rule not applied?

I think it's a definite red card. I don't think you can reasonably argue any other Brighton player is stopping Zirkzee from shooting there

I get Amorim won't speak on it, but we need someone from the club to do so. It's completely unacceptable.

You know the refs against us when he hesitates over giving a fecking clothes line in the box.

They need to introduce some kind of clock once the ball has gone out. 20 seconds maybe. There’s no excuse with the ball right there for the keeper to fetch. You’d force teams to either play out into the press quickly or go longer.

4 wrong decisions in first 12 minutes. Thought he wouldn't give a penalty either after being so awful by that point...

Opposition fans will see a pen and roll their eyes, ignoring that they could also be down to 9 men and one of those could've been sent off twice.

I still can't believe he hesitated to give the pen!

Unbelievable. I know it's relatively minor but yet again, flagged offside in a really promising attacking position when it looks as though Dalot was on! There is absolutely no fecking need for the officials to be doing this, it is infuriating!

A very literal shoulder to shoulder there.

Edit. Never a free kick leading to the goal.

I mean, we got lucky with that goal being ruled out. It was a foul but it didn’t really affect the play.

Pretty sure it’s against the rules to book Ugarte after the advantage as he didn’t stop the attack.

It’s not. The refs been horrid but this isn’t something you can blame him on
According to IFAB you can’t book him:

“If the referee plays advantage following a yellow-card offence, the card must be shown when the game next stops. However, if the offence was stopping or interfering with a promising attack, no card is shown, as the advantage allowed the promising attack to continue.”

It's incredible how United keep getting screwed on even the simple stuff like obvious corners and close offsides being called before the play even finishes.

Is this new? They go back and book players all the time

We get denied a lot of corners. Although we never score from them anyway. We get kicked off the park week in week out yet always have more cards than the opposition.

The last year or so I think. Depends on what they’re getting booked for. If it’s reckless then can still get booked. I doubt Ugarte’s challenge meets that criteria.

We can’t rely on decisions going for us to beat teams, but if we are facing 12 men every time we play a game then we will lose or than we win.

Amorim needs to speak up.

There was also that offside call early in the 2nd half when Dalot was in a good position. I mean don't like complaining about every decision as mistakes will happen but today it was really frustrating, especially in first half.

We seem to be seeing these kinds of performances from refs week in and week out and it feels like it's getting worse. Playing against 12 men most of the time when ours struggle against 11 (v Arsenal last week a good example). There was the obvious red for the pen today, but it's the small stuff that adds up to a lot that just keeps getting brushed off. We seem to be getting reffed to a different standard than other teams. It's the lack of obvious free kicks, throw-ins, corner kicks, offsides being called early, soft yellows (most for frustration at the ref) that we don't get etc.

How is yellow card and penalty justified? Only justification I can think is doesn’t stop an obvious goal scoring opportunity? But then 10 yards out ball at feet under control and keeper to beat has to be opportunity to score?

Surely ref should justify not sending player off. Every game. Scandalous

It doesn't matter if we are on the losing side or not. It doesn't matter if the media puts links calling us sore losers.

We need to speak out publicly against the absolute shit refereeing we are exposed to week in week out. Call out the ridiculous double standards in decision making. The refs are gonna do this until we put back the pressure on them to make the right decisions. The FA and PGMOL will continue to ignore this shit.

Still dont understand why Forest Murrilo goal got disallowed. Wood was offside but not interfering IMO
