VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

Nunez one was a red all day, didn't even pretend to look at the ball and just batters De Ligt square in the jaw with his shoulder.

Nunez was lucky. If he’s looking at the ball it comes across as accidental. He doesn’t take his eyes off of De Ligt though which points to it being deliberate.

If a red is shown it’s not getting overturned.

Van Dijk on Gordon v Newcastle. Nunez on De Ligt v United. How many more deliberate shoulders to the head are these pricks going to get away with this season?

It’s all part of the batshit notion from the officials that the shinbone is a much more precious organ than your brain. The worst thing possible you can do is stud someone’s shin. Shoulder charge to the dome? Not a problem. It’s a man’s game.

Yeah that happens all the time as natural coming together, but I think even in real time you could tell Nunez does him deliberately. It was my initial reaction at least. Very lucky.

Hate oliver but he was okish…
Pen was clear… hard to tell with our claims with no replays

Lino was a wierdo

Nunez is a red card IMO but only VAR can overturn this call as it clearly shows intend

Even if VAR had recommended a review there is no way, no way at all, that Oliver would overturn his decision. Not for us.

Happens in every box but is rarely penalised..

Oh look, example.

I was screaming at the tv for that and then no replay, no var check, no nothing.
And looking at that it’s a clear penalty.
Nunez was the clearest red you’ll see all year as well. Connected with de ligt’s face whilst not looking at the ball at all.
How in holy feck is that not a red?

100% red for Nunez, no VAR review for Liverpool handball which was just as much as De ligt except that one was replayed 10 times, foul and yellow given against Maguire in perfect shooting distance despite a perfect ball winning tackle right in front of Oliver, Robertson holding onto Amad in front of the Lino for 10 seconds….and breathe

For Darwin? If he goes in with that force, deliberately, with his boot into De ligt’s leg is it just a yellow?

Think it’s an orange but Oliver is never giving it as a red card. That’s precisely the problem with Oliver. 50/50 decisions never go our way with him in charge.
Orange it is, yes. A red would have been fine too, since it's such a cnuty move. But I won't complain too much about that yellow.

A few dubious decisions but not too bad from Oliver today imo. Let Ugarte off with one early on that I would've put my house on him getting the yellow out

The De Ligt handball decision was spot on imo but it pisses me off how bad our track record seems to be with getting those for/against us

Would like a proper replay of the handball shout we had, though suspect there must be nothing in it

Yup. 100%. Coward’s challenge. Red card all day.

Mind you, I thought Oliver had a very good game overall. One in the eye for the conspiracy theorists.
How can you think Oliver had a good game when he booked united players via letter of the law challenges yet let Mcallister away with a booking for his challenge on Bruno or Roberts away with the holding of Amad let alone the yellow card for a clean well timed tackle on Salah by Maguire

Guys, let's not become a whiners like the Arsenal fans. Yes it is annoying most of the time losing the 50/50 situation, but both of them were not that clear and somehow debatable. Crying about referees is Arsenal patent and it's pathetic. Get over it.

I thought he had a good game because he made very few errors, didn’t give out too many soft cards and generally played his part in a cracking, high tempo, full blooded match.

Just like a player a referee won’t ever have a completely error free game. Nit picking about every tiny detail of a referee’s performance is so boring. Doubly so when wrapped up in conspiratorial nonsense.

He was fine, could’ve easily been a knob and booked Ugarte, generally maintained the flow of the game.

If you compare it to our penalty against Spurs last year that he refused to give you would believe he is double standard.

So where was the check for Konate handball from the corner then?
Why was Nunez not var checked for that “challenge”?
De ligt clear pen no complaints about that but 2 mins earlier we had a very similar situation not even fecking checked.
I’ll cry about that for sure because it’s bullshit.

He was not fine, he should have sent off Nunez, but he didnt, gave a foul on our box for nothing, giving us yellow cards for fun. This donkey will never have the benefit of the doubt from my side.

The one angle isn't too conclusive but it is frustrating that VAR didn't seem to check it at all, would be interested to see a proper replay of it. That's on whoever the VAR was though not on Oliver.

Thanks for the reply I generally agree with you, but don't agree that he had a good game and think he was biased thought we also should have had a hand ball penalty. De ligt's was a penalty but we should have had more from the ref

Its a clear red, and because were largely happy with the result we're overlooking that its oliver again and one of his worst against us. So dangerous.

There was no replay on sky, nobody mentioned anything and var didn’t check it.
That’s not “frustrating” it’s something else entirely.

Don't think the Nunez incident was a red card. Just about enough shoulder/too little elbow for that, threading a fine line though.

De Ligt could've gotten a second booking for the penalty incident.

Oliver had a good match. He's still a thundercnut.

I definitely think VAR did us no favours. Nunez should have been sent off and it looked as though they had a handball just as bad as ours. But don’t blame Oliver for either of those. You could only properly see what a snide twat Nunez was being after watching a replay.
