VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

Ok, it wasn’t handball though. Shoulder definitely, upper arm arguably but nothing there to say it was definitely handball. Joelinton’s was more factual than opinion?

I not expecting much support here for sure . Ange was quality yesterday in his interviews, he’s losing it big time. All things being equal turning into fair and balanced mate. Go on Ange, say what you mean.
That's not where your shoulder is. It hits is arm in an a place that makes it a handball, it's not arguable at all.

The more you read this thread the more you understand why the referees are so bad. Everyone trying to one up each other with dumber and dumber interpretations of every incident depending on who they support or who they hate the most this week.

Such a strange post. The opinions and arguments of partisan armchair football fans shouldn't inform your opinion of refs, or tell you anything about them or their thought processes though.

The refs are supposed to be professional, objective and fair. They should be held to a higher standard than the average caftard's hot take.

You have weird body. Your shoulders and armpit start at your elbow.

Ha!

From the replay it's hard to see where on the arm contact was made.

It looks like it was probably below the armpit and while initially he had his arms out, he was pulling them back and seems to be attempting to get his arm out of the way when contact was made.

It's hard to make the case that the handball was due to a deliberate action on his part.

Which decisions have NUFC had that were factually incorrect lately? By the laws, it wasn’t handball yesterday and the ball hits Burn armpit high (more luck by design perhaps).

On the flip side Gordon has been elbowed in the box by VVD and Kulusevski and neither were given as a penalty, VVD should have been sent off, Dubvraka got kneed in the face by Solanki yesterday, not even looked at.

The ref added 10 mins yesterday & another 3 and this is the same ref who added 5 mins against Lpool, stopped the game for over a minute in added time and blew dot on 5 mins when we had a 3-1 on 1 break.

Just saying.

As regards the 3 minutes added on to the 10 at the end, I couldn't believe the commentators were saying "where has this extra time come from". Didn't they remember that after 90 mins, the Botman injury and replacement lasted a minute and a half? And Newcastle wasted plenty of time during added time which in any case was a minimum of 10 minutes so could have been nearer 11. So an extra 3 minutes made complete sense.

More shoulder than hand/arm for Burn IMO

We have very different definitions as to where the shoulder is.

I agree it was a penalty.

Whats funny is the same people calling it penalty were also vigorously defending the non pen decision last season when Onana absolutely wiped out the Wolves player.
Which same people? Name and shame mate, come on.

I said it's more closer to his shoulder than arm. Either way it's not handball so...

How can it hit his tricep (part of the arm) yet be closer to his shoulder than his arm? Like, in the picture you provided you can see the blokes entire shoulder. What you can't see is his upper arm. Why? The ball's in the way. Why? Because it hit his bleedin' arm.

Not handball so the discussion is pointless.

Really? I haven’t seen any evidence that the ball hit Joelinton’s arm. Seen quite a bit showing point of impact as his shoulder. Anyway, do us all a favour and wipe the smile off the smug Scousers today, unlikely as it is. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14237373/Man-United-Newcastle-Joelinton.html

That still isn't representative of what happened in my view. If you watch the replay, and the direction of the ball after contact is made, the point of contact is lower down on the arm.

There’s a picture a few posts up. It clearly doesn’t hit his armpit. Where have you got that from?

The eye see’s what it want to see, clearly.

Probably a bit harsh on Fulham there. Soft pen for Ipswich and could have been a red for the Ipswich defender on the first Fulham penalty.

But then it's hard to have any sympathy with them when Silva throws a massive sissy fit at every single decision and Wilson is constantly in the ref's face the second the game stops. Makes it near impossible for the ref to officiate impartially when one team is so hellbent on bullying them on every decision.

What is with the randomly selection of when they don't show lines... usually when it's pretty tight too?

We’ll just believe that the Liverpool player at anfield was the correct side of a very tight offside call shall we?

Oh thats a pen. His arm is over his head. De Light super lucky. Maybe not...

It's clearly a handball. Just frustrating that we still haven't seen the offside lines or a replay of our handball claim. They sure make it hard to trust var with that kinda consistency

Okay one Liverpool player who is offside pulls the defender away from offside trap and ends up making the other liverpool player onside. I bet if it was United, this would have been in consideration

Maguire and Fernandes were onto Oliver like a flash about the United penalty shout literally three minutes before he signalled the VAR check for the Scousers’ claim.

Of course we get no replays or VAR calls about the United one…

Still waiting to see a single referee go over to the screen and say, nah I’m good my first decision thanks.

At this stage is just a waste of time, just say VAR have given it and get on with it.

We never get that penalty and that's the key for me.

And now Maguire booked for getting the ball when he's let MacAllister and Van Dijk get away with cynical fouls in this game stopping breaks.
