VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

United should still complain about the penalty not given. Gone on way too long and referees + VAR see us as an easy target

That was a poor decision not to give a penalty on review, but to say it’s not a foul because of the status of the game, that’s a shocking admission.

Further proof, if we needed any, of the terrible refereeing standards in the Premier League.

It left me fuming, it was a clear penalty with no touch on the ball and a foot high across the players feet. But no in this game the same rules do not apply. Just feck off

Commentators (specially Beglin the dipper) were silent during the replay, didn't even once hint at the fact it was a legit pen.
I don't understand how ex players from rival teams still get to commentate those games.

Dickhead on refs watch just said it weren't a pen.
Warnock an Smith were speechless.
cnut still didn't change his mind when given the evidence.

Did he say it definitely wasn't a pen or did he do the weasely 'I can see why the ref didn't give it and it doesn't fit the threshold for intervention' shite?

Bizarre how Nunes wasn't booked for that tackle on Amad for the pen. He put the ref in a position that he had to give it and done the best thing possible to lessen the blow.

Attwell on Var so we know why the first pen wasn't given and we have Talyor giving City the softest of fouls all game while it's play on when they clatter us mostly and he's apologizing to City players for giving a foul, they look in shock towards the ref if they get called for anything such is the leniency they get given throughout the seasons. 14 fouls for us 5 for them. Good to win even when you're faced with refs working for a state run club.

corrupt or inept whichever one you want to call it.

It’s from the top to the bottom with the officials in the league, they are far too well protected that they are living in a echo chamber thinking what a great job there doing.

They need to be held accountable and made to answer to the people they are screwing over.

Bald clown. Even the way he talks about the second pen incident. "I dont know why he did it he didn't need to" These refs are criminals. Someone needs to check their bank transactions.

Sky (and other broadcasters) need to stop giving a platform to these refs. They offer no insight at all.

I imagine they keep Gallagher on because it winds people up and drives engagement, but Dean is on Soccer Saturday and the live games and never says anything of worth. Just a pointless addition that no one asked for. He makes Peter Walton seem competent.

Come on, he's exaggerated the contact to put it mildly. Not a pen for me.

Players usually do, not sure why anyone doesn’t think it’s a penalty. City player hits out across Højlund and doesn’t get anything on the ball but connects with Højlunds knee/just below. It’s not just a slight brush from the side. It’s one of those where you either connect with the ball or you’ve fecked up as you’re going to hit the opponent either way. I can understand that Taylors view makes it difficult to see what happens, as he’s on the wrong side of the duel, but that’s what VAR is there to sort out

If you want to play that game then 90% of the penalties given shouldn't be given. If you don't exaggerate the contact and go down then you don't get a penalty. Hojlund probably could have stayed on his feet and stumbled on but the chance was gone....because he was contacted by the defender which denied a goalscoring opportunity.

If you want to argue that defenders should be allowed a lot more leeway to contact attackers, thats fine but that was a penalty even 10 years ago by premier league standards. Penalties have generally got easier and easier for attackers to "win" over time but that was stone wall.

It's beyond idiotic, everyone agreed but he did not change his mind. Couldn't admit anything wrong with it. Crazy stuff
He is just determined to back the referee all the time, so makes the analysis pointless. The hoops he jumps through to convince himself the decision was correct is almost impressive.

He did disagree with the red card for Andy Robertson though
Yeah that was something else

It's almost funny to be fair, he looked like a absolute plank there.

What an absolute farce, how that is not given is beyond me. Fact that more people aren’t talking about it today is crazy!

Love the comment of his legs buckle…because you have to go down or you won’t get anything from officials. They actually promote diving as they won’t give a pen if you try to stay on your feet or get a shot off while being absolutely clattered. Just think of some of the pens given and then see that challenge and think, nah play on.
