VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

That penalty City got late in the 1st half v Brighton was a terrible call imo.
Silva stuck his leg out looking for contact. There was little the Brighton defender could do.
I can’t believe the ref and the VAR guy got conned.
Yup, shocking call as was never a penalty.

Silva instigated the contact.

Really don't understand why that now we are nearing 2023 and have the goal-line technology long-installed can't track players and do the same with offsides, really shouldn't be that hard with the money pumped into football and advanced technologies.

Then it's just down to human error now which happens quite a lot, at least they should have a strong word with the linsemen to let the game go on, ifit's even very close, can't call bullshite decisions like that.

BTW the same technology should also fix all these annoying half dozne mistakes every game when a throw in or a corner is just called wrong..
Agree.

Some tiny device installed in a fixed position in the shirt of every players like the collar for example would fix all the shit about this. But hell, how FA and the refs would influence the game as they want to if that is implemented.

All helps progress the sports washing project though

That was a ridiculous decision. How they can't see he's thrown his leg out is beyond me.

That Newcastle decision is ridiculous. Wilson straight up body checked loris
Strongly disagree. They’re both running towards the ball and into each other, both having an equal right to go towards the ball with nobody being in control of it. If Wilson fouls Lloris then Lloris fouls Wilson too (you can’t say that Lloris gets the ball either since it falls to Wilson after the collision) The arm movement from Wilson is just bracing for impact and what made both players stop was the body-to-body contact and not the arm, because if it was the arm that made Lloris bounce off him like that then Wilson’s the strongest man in the world. So given that Wilson’s entitled to go for the ball and has the right to his position on the pitch, where’s he supposed to go once Lloris messes it up? Vanish into thin air?

We’ve seen referees repeatedly not giving fouls for what’s a “coming-together”. If that’s not one of those then such a thing doesn’t exist.

Wilson held loris back. Literally held him. Wilson was no where near the ball and is not in control of it. Loris is clearly in control of the ball and wilson impedes him he can't move towards the ball because Wilson arm and body has stopped him. Thats as clear a foul as you'll ever see.

Mctom was just given a penalty against him for much less. Its clear. If that was against us we'd be calling for war

Nobody’s in control of the ball. They’re both approaching a loose ball from opposite directions and then the ball disappears from between them because Lloris literally can’t get it under control. The fact that you’re comparing it to McTominay’s bear hug from behind shows that you’re completely misjudging the situation.

How was that allowed to stand? Kehrer keeping the ball alive there volleyball style.

I thought VAR would improve this season not get 10 times worse. Some of the decisions are mind blowing .

Surprised to see Dyche and Carragher agreeing it should stand. On replays there, it looks like Kehrer actually moves his arms towards the ball as it comes over. Just looks bizzare.

Gabriel Jesus
"I spoke with him straight after and he said 'if you go down before maybe I can give a penalty'. But I think I was fair, I tried to hold and keep standing and tried to finish the action but in the end he grabbed me and it was impossible, so I go down normally."

The Ref (Robert Jones) straight up tells Jesus he was punished for trying to stay on their feet. In a game where he booked Saka for simulation despite the challenge taking him down. Why are our officials so poor?

Saka fouled the Southampton player

Ridiculous how that handball was allowed, he had plenty of time to get his hands out the way. Then you see goals disallowed when the ball just bounces up and hits the arm accidentally

If any of us were as crap in our jobs as these refs are at using VAR in this league we'd be sacked within a week. Dreadful.

Not sure how the West Ham goal was allowed but at least the VAR officials are consistent.

Consistently shit.

Watch it. Loris literally is already passed Wilson he already took the ball by him. Wilson then stops him carrying on his run. He has already beaten wilson thats the point. If i beat a player with a dribble and that player stops me getting the ball by blocking or holding me back. Thats a foul

It's quite rare for VAR now to do ... anything? Overrule a call!?
The ones from United games are the soft Odegaard foul and that nonsense Rashford "handball".

Otherwise, a whole variety of shocking decisions (the Sociedad penalty, the non-call penalty on Sancho vs Newcastle, the West Ham goal today) just happen, the refs give it, and the VAR says nothing.

In this age of pSxG-G and all, I wonder if anyone keeps stats on overrule rates by VAR?

Somehow it's worse than the Newcastle game. My god the incompetence of refs these days. This is insanity

There needs to be consequences for refs to this shite.

That was the strangest call I've seen all season. Even the announcers did not get how bad it was..... I usually stay out of this because things tend to work out over the season but VAR not catching that means things are very broken.

That is crazy. Why does that one big Soton dude keep trying to head butt?!?! WTF, even went for a little neck grab too.

I love watching bad things happen to Arsenal's Jesus on the pitch, but that was awful.

You're bringing up an inconsequential penalty from a game weeks ago which was a totally different type of incident to make what point exactly?

Referee/VAR are consistently shit .
No one mentioned that Martial pen in this thread.
