The defender didn’t have the ball. If it was disallowed for challenging then they wouldn’t have needed the ref to look at it. That applies to a player coming from an offside position to nick the ball off the defender.
There has to be something wrong with the system when my immediate reaction to any United goal at the moment is not one of sheer joy but a feeling of "Oh,yeah. What's VAR going to find this time?". Where's the fun in being a fan when you know they'll probably find something to chalk it off? In today's game, Maguire is offside and I can see why the ref thinks he's interfering with play but we all know other teams will get away with these all season. Same with the penalty against Hjolund. Just sick of every 50:50 decision going against us.
I’m struggling to see why that goal was ruled out. It’s almost like VAR went through it with a tooth comb and said to the ref…do you think we could disallow it for this?

The standards of officiating is at an all time low. I can't ever remember, week in week out, being worse than this.

Refereeing in the PL is atrocious. VAR is a complete waste of time, operated by equal incompetents.
With or without VAR there are still bad decisions - just waste everyone's time and reduce the excitement value.
Every time there's a goal, the object is how to find any possible way to disallow it. Especially for some teams.

Apparently because it was only a deliberate forearm to the head, rather than an elbow, it’s only a yellow card. I’ll have to file that one away for next time one of our players loses it and smacks the opposition - “not an elbow so yellow card only”. Just complete incompetence.
Stonewaller. Was it stopped for a 5 minute check or did they just gloss over it and not want to upset their Saudi paymasters?

At half time they're saying a forearm to the head is a yellow and an elbow would be a red???

Thought the refereeing for that incident was great tbh. Booking was the right decision, as were the subsequent yellows that followed for all the bitching Newcastle players.
Imagine if this was ManUtd player. Red Card to everyone inclusive Patrice Evra and Brian McClair just for being former ManUtd players.

It was one of the most obvious reds, no control whatsoever and could have been incredibly dangerous. Absurd decision.
Guimares should be off. As much as VAR checks everything baffling that didn't lead to an onfield review.
He didn't stop the freekick. Guimares fired at him to try to get him sent off.
Not all off the ground challenges should be a red card. Only caught the player with his trailing foot. Correct decision.
Nah, he clearly steps in front of him. If you watch it back, I think the second ball that makes it on the field at the same time actually saves him.

VAR a total shambles in Arsenal game, as per. Guimaraes avoids obvious red card. Havertz should have been sent off for second bookable offence. Now doing everything possible to disallow a legitimate Newcastle goal and taking an absolute age to do it. All the spontaneous joy sucked out of the moment. What a fecking farce.

To be fair, there's three reviewable situations within ten seconds.
I think the goal should stand, and by the same logic that they didn't rule the ball over the line they shouldn't have ruled our goal outside the pitch because there's not enough evidence to see that the ball's clearly out. The arms in the back are inconsequential because Gabriel bends down to try to head the ball behind him and the arms aren't pushing him over.
VAR this season is genuinely awful.

Genuinely United would’ve been disallowed on all 3 instances with that haha what a farce. Where’s the consistency.
I think we are reaching the point where something actually needs to be done about VAR. It's ruining football. How can having a team of people looking for reasons to disallow goals be to the benefit of the game?
