VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

As I said, to me it looked like he thinks he's going to get clattered and you can see his body do a little self-preservation move seconds before Bowen skips over him. I'm not trying to justify anything. I said it wasn't a foul but I was responding to a post saying Mendy was careless because he dived at Bowen's feet. That's where the ball was and got the there first, so nothing careless about what Mendy did apart from the way he handled the ball. I think if he doesn't hesitate, which he actually does twice in that whole sequence, he gets to the ball calmly way before Bowen even thinks about skipping over him.

That’s fair enough.

Mendy is a play actor though. He actually tried the same thing for West Ham’s first goal from memory.

Any challenge for the ball that means your opponent has to jump over you to avoid being clattered is by nature reckless. The rules aren’t applied the same way to keepers though and I’m not trying to say a foul should’ve been given against Mendy. I’m pointing out that by the rules of the game the only player being careless or reckless is Mendy thus further emphasising the point it was never a foul by Bowen. It’s a reply to the literal fashion in which terraloo is trying to frame the decision.

Fair enough, I guess it's just something we see in every game. Keepers dive at the feet of players all the time. It's a duel we see in every game. It's just standard goalkeeping to me. The ball is there to be won and if the keeper gets there first, then he saves the goal or wins a foul. If the attacker gets there first, it's usually a penalty or he scores.

Took more than 3 mins to take away HJK's goal against Betis for offside and gave a softish pen also. I am on team feck var from now on.

Guess the rules change again when it’s United

Hideous, cannot understand how VAR can look at that and still let it stand.

Seems other countries' refs don't know how to use VAR, either. Clearly doesn't work fine - just as useless.

Refs are all Italian. There’s a penalty in Serie A every fecking game.

They are just making these rules up as they go along now, that was ludicrous

I don't think anybody can reasonably argue that the game hasnt moved too fast for officials. Almost every single game has a complete howler. The incompetence is shocking across all tournaments and refs and their personalities impact games more than ever

First Lizzy now this

I mean who the actual feck is the guy checking the video?! How blind do you have to be.

As soon as I saw the slow motion I was certain they would overturn the decision, I’m absolutely shocked at that. He moved his arms away from the ball and it hit his leg then hit his arms…..I mean WTF that literally means that any shot could be a penalty. Has to be the worst decision I’ve ever seen, there’s no way they couldn’t have seen it which makes me question seriously the honesty.

Why everything surrounding VAR is so secretive is a mystery to me... let us hear the dialogue during a check. What do they tell the ref? Surely it's not compromising to anybody, hearing them practicing the laws of the game.

VAR with a swift and correct decision. Martinez should know that he can't just switch places with DeGea on the fly.

I genuinely don't believe a lot of these VAR officials... Nor officials in general, actually know the rules of the game they officiate.

You’d think that with 2.6k posts and still being a newbie you’d start putting some efforts into your posts, you quite legitimately offer less to this forum than Schmeichel’s Cartwheel.

Their sole purpose was to trigger posters here and you are falling for it.
