He will probably need some time to get back into the swing of things, but lovely to see him on the training pitch again. Seems like a really nice, positive guy and I hope he'll get the time he needs to try to get back to top level. God knows we need left backs!

Someone on Twitter wrote that he is now 25 and hasn’t played since he was 23

Is that true?!
It will be, yeah. As he's not played for about 16 months. His last appearance was at the end of the 22/23 season. And as his birthday is in August, he'd have still been 23 when he last played, and has now just turned 25.

I know it all makes sense, but it feels weird that we signed him at 22 and he is 25 now.

Random fact but I've learnt in recent weeks there's a knee condition called Chondromalacia that seems a bit ironic. Hopefully his knee issues are behind him now.

On a serious note, glad he’s almost back. Seems fit and bulked up and every bit as happy as before.

A couple months ago most of us doubted whether he’d ever make it back onto the pitch. Let’s hope he’s ready to play in a couple weeks time and let’s hope he can at least reach the level he was at before getting injured

He and Rashford are really close as well. People need to remember he played a lot of football in Rashford's best season.

Good on him for avoiding the car crash that was last season - silver lining right there!

Was wondering this too.

Sure he’ll be eased in, but he’s been in group training for 1-2 months now? Anyone any idea how long until he’s on the bench again?

I quite liked what I saw of Malacia, and it's worth noting that he was a regular contributor during the one good season we had under ETH. He'll have his work cut out for him, but I'd love to see him back to his previous level - could be a very valuable squad member.

Considering we have 2 full backs available this would be good news if he can even get back to a middling level.

I was going to ask about this because it does seem about 2 months he’s been in group training. Sure after being out so long you want to ease him back in but it truly must be about 2 months he’s been doing stuff with the first team.

“Tyrell is the furthest [along] at the moment…Harry is still inside working on his rehab, Luke also does pitch work”

"Tyrell [Malacia] is fully in team training, and no restrictions, and it's good to plan his game minutes, maybe in the under 21's."

Sounds like we're getting very close. Hopefully be a genuine option some time soon for LWB in Amorims setup for which he'd appear well suited too.

Yeah hopefully couple of under 21 games or closed stadium games during international break will give him some match fitness to be an option at LB/LWB.

I thought the LWB in Amorim’s system was someone technically good with strong attacking qualities? It’s a while since I’ve seen Malacia play but doesn’t really sound like how I remember him playing?

The U21s play their final group game in the EFL Trophy next week, could be a good opportunity for 20-30 minutes there if he's ready.

I think you're right. I remember Malacia being more of an inverted full back, he'd add a body in midfield when we had possession. First touch and passing were his best assets IMO, didn't see him overlapping and crossing much. Whether that was his instinct, or if it was ETH told him to do is something I guess we won't know until he plays under Amorim.

Like a new signing!*

*which these days means prepare yourself for massive disappointment

I don't even think he's particularly any good, and yet I'm really hoping he can be back soon.

yeah, same here. He wasn't good forward, but he was new and playing under ETH, maybe there's an attacking beast waiting to be unleashed. I hope he does well, I just worry that being out that long he might never get back to where he was, which for us, was at best okay.

He could be a completely different player now but I was thinking more of his athleticism and dynamism to get up and down the pitch from wing back better than Luke Shaw can and being naturally left sided offering us better balance than say Mahrouzi or Dalot to overlap the inside forward. His final ball was poor but on the ball generally he was tidy

He basically needs to be a better fullback/wingback than Lindelof to qualify as an improvement to the squad.

I refuse to count Shaw as a living person anymore

Went to a bar near old Trafford yesterday . He came up in convo a guy overheard us and started telling us he’s missing because he’s in witness protection because of a gang murder. Had a few more pints and started believing it :lol:

I can’t even remember if he’s any good, but either way, I’ll take a LB / LWB option in any form currently

Good for him to be back playing
