The thing with Malacia is that he was never any good going forward but was half decent defending so the wing back role is never going to suit him.

He was decent before he joined Bournemouth. At AZ he showed how effective he was tracking back and getting forward and delivering quality crosses. There's a reason why he was on Liverpool's radar. If our transfer and scouting department weren't so dumb thinking we could rely on shaw being fit we could have got him for 15 million before he joined Bournemouth
15mil??
We are paying 4mil for a 17yo plus add ons from the Paraguayan league whom had a value of a 1mil before we were linked with him.
The biggest issue we have faced for years is not getting ripped in the transfer market and it does not seem to go away.

He's nowhere near being good enough for a top team but seeing as we're in the bottom half of the table he's fitting right in. He's just another in the long line of average players we've accumulated the past decade and it's all coming back to bite us hard.

Doesn't look like the LWB role suits him as it just demands so much more offensively. If you look at the players Amorim has used there they are so much more involved in the goals. We have to get a new starter next season and someone more creative offensively be backup.

OTT comments. 18 months out. Only 18 months ago he was keeping Shaw out the team and pocketing the winger who is favourite for the Ballon D’or at the moment.

Had good passes down the line for Bruno, but also misplaced a few. He can only do 45 mins at a time. I wouldn’t call him a lost cause yet.

He's also not a wing back. He was more of an inverting full back and not great going forward.

You're not wrong. I suppose this season he could be tried as an understudy to Martinez but long term he's probably not of much use to us.

That’s blatantly untrue.

He was a cheap punt. He looked like he might become a solid bench option before his injury, which is really fair enough for the outlay
That was always my impression as well. I am totally fine with the club taking those punts when they feel it might turn out a good deal. Still hope, there is a player in there somewhere, I honestly like his skillset the most from all our fullbacks. Lets face it, in attacking aspects, none of them is pulling any trees which definitely is a problem but all of them should be adressed, not just the guy who was out for more than a year and is now finding himself adjusting to a new position on top of all things.

He can't run anymore. He has literally zero hope as a PL defender, never mind a wingback, with the level of pace he now has.

Honestly I can't remember him being a particular standout player pre injury.

His final appearance pre injury was the Sevilla game, a game we were comfortably in top before his errors gifted Sevilla two goals.
He was solid pre injury defensively at least, offensively he simply didn't contribute. Overall he's the kind of guy you have as the back up when you have a first choice left back who's world class and always fit, so malacia role would be the domestic cup games and a few starts against the worst sides in the league.
In Amorim system though he isn't tactical suited to playing any role, he's no wingback as his offensive contribution is non existent and he can't play left center back, strikers would bully him.

When first playing he looked calm on the ball next to Lisandro, some composure we added that summer. Then he made a few mistakes and he wasnt as calm. He made some good tackles to look a bit like AWB. But thats about it. He played some decent passes forward last game. Left wingback doesnt seem to fit him, he's played CB before so he'd probably be better suited to left of the back 3.

He wasn’t though? He never kept shaw out of the time

Pretty sure no one thought he was good enough pre injury. Especially in attack

No bitterness on this one as he cost pennies by modern standards. He's absolutely woeful though, Championship standard at best.

Nice to see how we’re all able to keep it civilized when one of our players underperforms

The lad has been giving his all from day one, and had the misfortune of being injured for 18 months and most likely never to fully recover

Yeah probably better to sell him, but jeez, have some respect guys

Wish there were more level headed fans like you on here

Man Utd 2:1 Rangers New
Played well when he came on. Tenacious and good passing and movement was good

Nah, disagree. I find him quite frustrating to watch. Caught out of position a few times and tended to run into strange positions.

Was very lucky not to start a rangers counter when he threw himself into a tackle rangers goal side rather than his goal side.

He just feels erratic. Wasn’t impressed with him today personally.

He stinks. Offers nothing interesting in possession, and now doesn't have the old athleticism he had when we first bought him when defending. Seems really sluggish these days.
A major injury like that can change the direction of a career. He's a great squad option before. Now I think he's done at this level. Think going back to the Dutch league is needed for him. Thankfully we didn't spend big on him either.

I thought he had a good cameo. His best so far after the comeback.

He should be the first to get sold. He's fit and we don't need him. We also need someone new on his position.

Defensively poor but you can see the value of a natural left footer on the left, few times he managed to keep play moving to get Garnacho in behind which is something Dalot doesn't do when he is playing out there.

He was decent. After his injury he’s not up to it at PL level but will move on and do well hopefully
