I didn't say he is necessarily terrible. But just like a U-17. Tenacious, works hard, like trying to prove himself. Yet his almost always behind the game or out of position. Unfortunately, he is 25, not 15. And continues to offer next to nothing going forward. Of course, he isn't a wing back and was out for a long time. But what he is showing isn't significantly different than before his injury. I just don't think he cuts it at this level. But he didn't cost 80 million, so it's fine in that sense.
Never understood why Utd bought him honestly.

I love Malacia, he was great for us, but he should've gone to Lyon. Not United.

I hope these appearances are to show the world that he is fit and helps us find a buyer in January. Otherwise he is a pretty pointless player who shouldn't be getting any minutes, forget starting games.

He wasn't really that good before his injury and he's much worse now.

Was only cheap so no biggie if he leaves.

Another shrewd Erik signing to scrap with the rest.

I reckon he'll be our first permanent sale under Amorim (Rashford might be a loan in January). We should be able to get our money back for him if we sell soon. Low risk transfer that hasn't worked out, but oh well, it was worth a punt. I appreciated his performances vs Liverpool and City in his debut season.

Just looks a very poor player i can't believe he has any future at the club.

Yet another terrible signing by Ten Hag

I can't see that happening at all. Who's going to pay £13m+ for him? Wan-Bissaka only went for £15m and he might as well be prime Cafu compared to Malacia. Frankly, I'd be astonished if he went for even half that. He's 25, shite and has spent most of the past two seasons out injured.

He's not ready. He might not ever be ready
It's a far cry from his first season which was ok. He doesn't look aggressive at all which he had going for him then.

Think everyone is being overly critical considering he’s been missing for so long. Of course he looks off the pace and has made some mistakes due to that. I don’t think he makes it here long term either, but some context is required when assessing him currently.

The one thing he has shown is the upside of having a left footer at LWB instead of Dalot constantly coming inside.

I think most people - and not just after today's match - have concluded the same as you. He's not good enough. And he won't become much faster with match fitness. He's just not that fast. And he's not strong. What he could improve on is making it more of a benefit that he's left footed on the left flank, whipping it in first time around when the chance comes, but that could be down to instructions.

He's a bit of a liability in defense. Worst of all is how physically inferior he is to whichever opponent he's up against. If that's considered OK, we might as well give Amass a chance right now.

He wasn't good enough for United before his injury, these performances change nothing.

He's a third choice player, imo. Hope we improve on his position in the window and lower him down the pecking order. He's got to work for the right to be second choice.

In the first 10 minutes, he gave away possession cheaply 3 times (miscontrol the ball twice gifting throw in + a hospital pass to opponent for a counter), it killed the momentum and confidence of the team.

He's a fairly average player at best. Everytime I watch him play, I do not see any stand out attributes. No pace, no crossing ability, and he's not even a great defender. Playing him as a wing back was largely pointless as he offered nothing in attack apart from 1 run and cross. After coming back from injury, he has looked well off the pace too. A sad indictment of our gaping hole at LWB/LB.

I think malacia needs to more time to regain his fitness and sharpness especially after coming back from a very long time on the sidelines. He's more than decent defender and will add more to the team than mediocre players like dalot who lack intelligence.

The loss was bad but I think it's very hyperbolic to say he was atrocious or anything, he was taken off at half time and it was only 1 nil, the goal conceded was a free kick that was badly defended, he did bits okay and bits not so okay, tried his best, I am not saying he has the quality to succeed here and I am not advocating anything, but the comments here are just OTT.

Malacia is coming back from an eternity of injuries. He will not be at his best for probably most of this season. He should be loaned out and given a chance in the summer according to how the loan went.

Needs to spend time with the reserves imo and come to the first team only if / when ready.

He should be sold. We need to be ruthless. Malacia and Shaw out and a first choice LWB. You’d hope at least one of Leon or Amass could be the backup next season.

I think he can only get good after his bad stint last night... That's how bad he was yesterday for a Manchester United player. Someone upload this.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Malacia - I loved his tenacity in his first season and the role he played in several vital wins. But it’s just not working now.

Same.

I do think his ceiling isn't that high, but I also think you can't really judge an athlete after a year+ absence for at least 6 months to a year after his return. Holds pretty true across most sport imo.

He's also not a wing back. He was more of an inverting full back and not great going forward.

Agree with that.

He's not good enough. But he was always going to need months and months to get going fully.

The problem today is squad players won't feature for the U21's. That culture has gone.

Malacia shouldn't be in the first team yet. He should have played at least ten U21 games first. I think he played one half didn't he?

Premier league games aren't the place to regain everything after such a lay off. It's madness for him and the team.

Don't know why people are surprised he's come back and is shit. He cost us the europa game against Sevilla with comical mistakes in his first season, I knew from then he was not any good. We should have gone all out for Kerkez in the summer

And what would he have cost..based on a decent season with Bournemouth?

He was decent before he joined Bournemouth. At AZ he showed how effective he was tracking back and getting forward and delivering quality crosses. There's a reason why he was on Liverpool's radar. If our transfer and scouting department weren't so dumb thinking we could rely on shaw being fit we could have got him for 15 million before he joined Bournemouth
