He just needs to do enough to encourage an offer next summer. Not our level. Did basics reasonably well tonight which I believe is as much as we can expect from him.

Not sure the point in playing him in a game like this just to hook him at half time.

He played well though.
Think it was the yellow. He was probably always going to come off early due to this being his second game in about 2 years, but the yellow probably expedited that

If he manages to keep himself fit for the rest of the season, I actually wouldn’t mind keeping him as a squad player and bring in a LWB with much greater attacking threat.

I can't fault him, I would expect anymore from him but he's no wingback.

He did okay. Saka had some success but certainly wasnt at his most dangerous in the first half against him. We coped

That was a good performance. He was out for about year and a half until recently.

Hmm. I thought he under hit his passes far too much

He's not a bad defender at all, did pretty well tonight and I remember he had a good game against Salah before his injury. It's more going forward that he's lacking, so he might be another option at LCB.

Did well today...
Not surprised he got hooked off second half as I guess Amorim wanted more attacking thread. But it backfired

Was overly cautious in attack. But at least he wasn’t bad defensively - far from it considering he countered Saka. Decent performance for a squad player

Way to small to play center back, not strong enough either. See the Bodo/ glimt goal when he briefly tried to cover that area.

Thought he was alright. He’s not a wingback and he’s not a first teamer. Under a flat back four he would make a decent second choice left back, but that’s not what we need. We need a first team quality wingback. So chances are he’ll be sold in the summer. But until then we need him to contribute, and more performances like last night will make him a viable option.

Good game defensively. I would probably give him a go and rest Dalot a bit.

The problem is I never expect him to do anything more than the basics which IMO is not enough in the wingback role. I do trust him with defending though, so that's a start. If I recall correctly he was really fast and powerful runner before injury, or am I wrong?

Not bad defensively.
Non-existent offensively but maybe that was tactical.

I don't think he's ever shown to be fast. Decent speed at best, but at least he didn't look slow against Saka, but then again, Saka isn't lightening fast - he's just very, very good. Malacia did unexpectedly well, much better than Dalot, who unsurprisingly let Saka run in behind. Dalot is much better on the right, although one could argue at this point that he may just not be a good enough wingback.

Probably the best performance he could've put in given the circumstances, ie long term injury, Saka back on form etc. If he can keep injury free and get regularly game time over the next 2-3 months then we can start to judge him more.

There's something niggle about him I don't like, not sure what.

He did try last night, but Saka certainly had the better of their duels.

In any case i think Amorim likes him and we have to trust his judgement here.

He likes him in as much as he was probably the only player available to play there. If Licha wasn’t out then you could see Mazraoui starting out there instead

Perhaps, but he did have the option of playing Amad on the right and Mazraoui on the left yesterday (which is what i thought he would do).

I remember how he played at feyenoord. Comming inside going for a 1-2. Had a Decent cross in him. He just isnt feeling allright at this moment

With who as the third centre back? Evans? Starting Yoro?
Either of those, or leaving Maz at CB and putting Dalot LWB. He had several options.

Considering he's only recently come back from 18 months out, he did very well against saka and I thought defensively he was solid.

If we had a more reliable starting LWB then he'd be fine, the main issue is with Shaws injuries he's basically our starter and he's probably never going to be good enough for that.

Handled the task much better than I thought he would all things considered, even if it was just for a half.

Got rinsed by Saka once but was solid apart from that. Encouraging considering how long he was out.

Amad was shot after 90 mins against Everton so likely wasn’t going to start. Evans as a back three against Arsenal when he struggled against Ipswich doesn’t work. Yoro starting a game after months out against Arsenal is risking a player back from injury. I don’t think him starting Malacia shows he innately rates him and we have to trust it. It’s using the squad at his disposal and setting us up with two more defensive wing backs.

Seeing as most of the cafe had Saka regularly tearing us a new one with impunity I think he did really well especially when you factor in the unavailability of Martinez and Shaw.
Sure we might need an upgrade at LB/LWB but I'd have him over Shaw as the understudy going forward.

Malacia hasn't played football for almost 18 months? (could be more), his fitness level is no worse than Yoro. Evans could have played in the middle of the three so he would be less likely to be exposed in wide areas.

Another good half. Handled Saka well.

2nd first team appearance in 18months mind.

Much rather see more of him at LWB than Dalot

This guy has a phenomenal attitude.
The work he must've put in to be able to do himself justice last night.

Out for 18 months, gets a couple of 45min preps and then goes up against Saka and doesn't embarrass himself.

Well done lad.
