Let's hope Chido Obi Martin does choose us, would be a great addition and a better option than Toney. Looks like he's been touting himself about, so it'll be pot luck who he finally opts for. Fingers crossed.

He's a literal child, he won't come in and be anywhere near the first team.

Better option than Toney?! Based on some videos of him bullying smaller kids? I admire your optimism.

Not a better option in the short term. In a few years he could be but he will be in the youth setup and maybe a few games from the bench this season if he is a huge talent.

I'd still snap him up. If I recall, a 16 year old set the Euro's alight a week or so ago. Either way, not an opportunity to pass up if we get it.

I

i think this post says it all.

Rabiot dreams of it. None of the clubs actually do.

All this stuff in the press is from his agent trying to drum up interest. The fact that zero top clubs are strongly linked to him (and let's face it it should be very easy deal to do) tells you everything you need to know.

I agree not something we should pass up on. But it is extremely rare for a 16 year old to be a semi regular at a top club

Just no. Some of you would have have us playing the u18 team in the PL.

I'm not disagreeing on that point, just that it's not a Toney Vs Obi Martin discussion.

We can buy one, both or neither but it's not the case that they will have the same role in the team.

Lamine Yamal says hello :)
Yea but Lamine is a huge exception to the rule. Most 16 year olds are nowhere near their clubs first team. Occasionally you get some freak players but it's few and far between.

I mean yes there's the odd 16 year old who does it, but its a bit silly to pretend all of them are going to be like that (respectfully) freak.
Not all of them. But given this fella is being referred to as “Van Persie v2.0”, why isn’t it a possibility that he can go and play? It’s not like with have RVN up front, competition for places is not that strong.

Yes because he's got a silly nickname it must be true.

Is there a reason he doesn't want to continue at Arsenal?

Arteta is beginning to develop a reputation as a coach who is slow to trust youth.

He probably feels there are better pathways to first team minutes elsewhere.

If we indeed plan to play him in the first team (at least off the bench), then it makes sense.
Don’t think a 16yo striker walks straight into our first team squad. Unless he is on par with Yamal, which i doubt. But he is probably ready for a loan a level or two below us.

Our first team is full of below par players such as Antony, Sancho and a few others. It doesn’t require being Yamal to get ahead of those, it just requires being good.

He will not join if he senses he has no shot at the first team immediately. Its probably the reason he left Arsenal.

To be fair to our bald fella, he is starting to get a very good reputation for giving youth prospects opportunities. That can only be really helpful when trying to sell this project to young players, they only have to look at Garna, Mainoo and now Amad.

I'd say it was more down to the lack of pathway to the first team, not because he's expecting to break into the first team immediately as a 16-year old. He only became a regular at U18s level last season.

My guess is It’s purely cash. He’s worth far far more in wages than arsenal can pay if he’s on a free and he’s already worth a few million with many clubs circling. This move will set him up for life whether he makes it or not whereas at Arsenal he probably would have needed to break through to the first team squad to be put on similar money. Shortcut to financial security

Is he purely a striker or can also play off the right or left wing?
Seems like an out an out striker to me. Big strong guy who seems to be all about getting the ball in the net. Somewhat similar to Haaland i guess. Would be fun to hear the view of an Arsenal fan on here.

Why not? If i was in his psoition i'd be looking at all the golden boy contenders and thinking, why can't that be me? Maybe not necessarily first 11 immediately but I feel like he'd want to be in a first team squad. Otherwise, why leave Arsenal? Pretty good, title-contending team with a deficiency in the striker department. He probably would have gotten some cup minutes this season if he stayed.

Based on how little Arteta seems to trust the youth, I don’t think he would’ve been involved. There is a reason why some of the top Golden Boy players are there and playing at first team level while he’s not.

We could benefit from that. Zirkzee is clearly a different profile, while Hojlund can’t start 60 games a season.

I dont think the difference between those players and him is much at all. All it takes is one manager to give him the opportunity and if he smashes it, that's it. Two seasons ago where was Mainoo? Three seasons ago where was Garnacho? Rashford's story started as a replacement for an injured first teamer in a severely depleted team. And i'm sure you'd see similar stories if you looked through the golden boy list. They are all meteoric rises. The very best youngsters very rarely have linear/conventional development stories.

I'm glad this place is staying grounded on this lad, no lofty expectations.
As long as he's a blend between Romario and Dennis Law, I'm sure Van Nistelrooy can iron out the rest of his game by the time he's 16 and three quarters.
