Well, he has a history of selling, doesn't he? Do you want me to remind you a few names?

One chap who went to R Madrid, was he not your best player?

He has a history of selling but he also has a history of getting top dollar for the players that he doesn't want to sell. Levy is a tough cookie to deal with. I wouldn't mind having him at our club...

Matt Hughes (Times): Spurs are willing to sell Toby Alderweireld this summer after reaching a deadlock in negotiations over a new contract. He's demanding a deal worth £150k a week.

no brainer especially at 150K, VVD is at 180k, Jones wants 125k-150k. Smalling probably would want similar numbers to Jones. Dump them both, upgrade to Toby, move Axel into the rotation.

Sign Toby. Him and Bailly would be perfect.

I happen to like both players but we won’t win anything with Jones or Smalling as first choice. I’d rather spend in midfield but another CB is a must.

Btw, why should 150k for a great player be insurmountable for Spurs? Stingy fecks.

Jones better than Alderweireld? Alderweireld has been in discussion as the best CB in the league the past what, 2, 3 seasons? I like Jones, I really do, but hes just not in the same class as Alderweireld. Injuries have really hamstrung ;) his career, he has 2 pages of injuries on transfermarkt and hes only 26.

Bailly given time will be better than both I would like to think.

Him, Bailly and Smalling would surely suffice. Especially if they remain free of any more big injuries. Good amount of qualities between them. Then Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah can be backups and it would allow us to get rid of deadwood like Blind, Rojo and Jones which doesn't play much anyways. I say go for it!

Is he over his injuries?

He's not better than Jones or Bailly* in any way.

*injuries notwithstanding
You see this is the problem with our fanbase, they let their compassion for our players blind them. Jones is nowhere near as good as Alderweireld.

While Jones CAN be good when having a good day, he just isn't consistent enough with performances or injuries. He spreads a nervousness throughout the whole defence, we just need to move on.

If there is any chance, we should be all over this

He plays on the right and so does Bailly, can he play on the left? If he can that would be a good partnership.

I believed that, but after Jones's last man of the match performance at Wembley somehow I backed out of that idea.
Jones is a good defender but Alderweireld is a very good defender and he is a leader.

We must do everything to sign him.
Is he? He never made that impression with me. Good defender, but didn't came out as a leader exactly.

Its a deal that must be done if its at all possible. Instant upgrade. I can't for the life of me understand anyone who thinks any of our current bunch are better than him, Bailly has potential in time, but not yet.

Surprised he’s the first to ask for that sort of money. Spurs players are worth it.

He’s better than anything we have. Alderweireld and Bailly at the back would be great.

Uhhh, I think he is.

I think it's another "grass is greener" situation. He's not better, he just plays for a team that looks better.

I think our centre back options are already superb. IF he could be bought cheap and we could basically sell Smalling or Rojo the cover the price then maybe it's worth the effort? But I don't see him changing the dysfunctional shambles we are, and I think keeping English players like Smalling around benefits everyone. Otherwise what are we? Spurs defence? Chelsea's midfield? Everton and Arsenals attack? I'm not seeing much Manchester United in our team...

Why do you think that? Superb? That's....certainly an opinion.

I think De Gea's class really makes people overrate our mob at the back.

He's better than anything we have, to put Jones next to him in terms of quality is a travesty.

This, obviously.

He's arguably the best CB in the league. That being said, don't be surprised if this is just typical contract negotiation disinformation.

No surprise really. He spent a year at Southampton learning from the best in the business at never being satisfied with what you've got.

I genuinely think Jones is a great player. Bailly looks great whenever I see him, Lindelof looks better and better every time I see him. Smalling (for all his faults) is better than most defenders around, and arguably should be 4th pick for us.. Rojo? I don't rate the guy hugely but he's 5th in line.. Are there many Argentina internationals 5th choice?!

I do think our options are superb, and I'm certainly not going to scapegoat the defence for our poor showings. If he's cheap then sure, sign him up, he's a good player, but i don't expect him to change us much.

On paper would be a good signing, a main defender for us to find partners for. We haven't had a starting CB in a few years. Obviously Bailly is kinda one now but big fitness issues... might just be our curse.

We can pay him 150k p/w no issue. Makes lots of sense. Just hope we don't have to pay 70m or some nonsense

Wow ok. You are probably the only person in the world who thinks that.

Mate. Has Toby ever headed the ball whilst it was on the ground?

Exactly. Jones 1. Toby 0.

Jokes aside, he's better than what we have by a distance. Smalling in 15/16 form is fairly close, but he's nowhere near that level right now. Bailly has potential, but potential is a gamble. Alderweireld has it right here right now. If he's available, it's a no-brainer for every other club in the top 6.

I think our centre back options are already superb....

Vidic & Rio were superb, do you honestly place Jones and Smalling, or for that matter, Rojo & Blind in the same 'superb' category..?

Toby is better than any of our centre backs by some distance .
