His name isnt the easiest to get a song for, we just stuck to Toby :D.

Is the Daily Star really a highly respected media source? I agree he will be sold but I doubt very much if the only interest is from United.

Toby *clap clap clap*
Toby *clap clap clap*
Toby *clap clap clap*

Unfortunately that is the extent of imagination.

This ABU thing is getting cringeworthy. The world doesn't revolve around United.

As for Alderwereild - it'll be poor from Spurs to sell him because a) he will probably seek a move to a rival b) there are probably some envious glances at Walker strolling to a medal and c) after building a strong team up the right way, why throw it away now?

150k a week isn't extraordinary in football terms (which is revolting to say by the way). If you sell Sissoko and Llorente that might be 150k a week off the books.

Couldn't agree more about the ABU thing.

150k isn't extraordinary, but under their current wage structure, 150k is about 50% more than what their current highest earner makes (Kane at 100k). I think Spurs are willing to break their wage structure, but I don't think they're willing to do it starting with Alderwereild's contract. I think they'll start with Kane's extension, which should bring him to 200-250k and use that as their cap.

Its not about the wages alone id say we are probably happy enough to meet his demands, he has wanted a move to an elite club his whole career, hence the release clauses he likes in his contracts. You say its poor for us to sell him? What can we do if he doesn't wanna stay?

I think you should stamp your foot down. He doesn't seem a player who would make a big fuss about it and if you can keep him for another year who knows whether the situation changes. He could be winning with Spurs and an agreement is made. By letting him go it would just send a message to others that they can knock on the door and get a move too.

I'm more on the side, if he wants to go and is running his contract down let him go. It is up to the manager at the end of the day. If we can get £40-50M I will be content, and sign Verts down for another 3-4 years.

The world doesn’t revolve around United but some clubs have a policy not to sell to us, and others try and rinse us then sell to a rival cheaper.

It works both ways.

Can't help but feel annoyed that we seem to be the go to club for players who want a pay rise.

It won’t be 40-50m. This is a negotiation where Spurs don’t hold all the cards. The bigger issue is that this will be the first of many. Spurs have had their window, if they don’t win something this year they’re in bother.

Yeah yeah, all our players leaving . Of course we hold the cards, we are guaranteed £25M with his release clause so unless the offers are significantly higher we would just keep him for the extra year. £40M for Toby would even be a bargain given today’s prices.

It will. I'd take him for £40m right now.

How do you mean, 'the kind of player he is'?

Not really in a bad way but I knew he would always move on, increadably ambitious. As far as l know he was all keen to join Southampton, until we came in and there was a bit of an odd way we managed to get him when Southampton could have got him for a small fee but never managed to get it over the line.

He's a top defender but I wonder how much of it is Pochettino's system getting the best out of centre backs, and how much is natural talent/ability.

I'd wager he'll be off and Spurs will get good money. And I wouldn't be surprised if Rose pushes for a move.

Lol you can have him .

Alderweireld just seems like yet another injury-prone defender to join our persistent casualty list.

As if: Bailly, Jones, Rojo, Smalling aren't bad enough.

We don't need a CB but he could be bought for a decent fee it would appear. If not, wait for the £25m release clause.

He's almost certainly leaving a Spurs anyway.

Of course he missed many games because of his shoulder injury and knee injury but i wouldn't say that is injury-prone.

Jones, Wilshere, Carroll or Diaby are injury-prone players in my opinion.
I looked it up a while ago when people classed Smalling as an injury prone defender. Jones has missed more than double the amount of games as Smalling despite being here a year less. Rojo has missed even more which is pretty astonishing since he's been here three and a half seasons. I know the knee injury is a bad one which can happen to anyone, which accounts for a lot of it. But in a way, it's not affected him as badly as a big portion of that injury was during the off-season in the Summer. Ergo, he hasn't missed as many competitive games for us as he could have.

Rojo is our most injury prone player, bar maybe Phil Jones. It's bad.

Has he suffered an injury setback or is he simply not fancied by Poch?

Hasn't been selected since his return to injury. Supposedly been back since Mid-February.

Yeah, I thought he was saying himself that he was fit, whilst Poch didn't think so. Just curious about this all.

I've seen enough of our CB's. Not a single one of them has that 'aura', that thing that made defenders like Stam, Vidic, Rio, Bruce, Pallister stand out as beasts.

Buy Alderweireld, whatever it takes. Sell Rojo and Lindelof (it'd be more likely we'd sell Jones, to be honest, which would be a shame as he's twice the player Victor is).

Bailly-Toby
Smalling, Lindelof/Jones and Axel as solid backup options.

If we'd manage to sign him I'd certainly expect us to sell two centre backs. My preference would be to sell Smalling and Jones, keep Rojo.

Haven't heard that

Maybe I'm not clued up, I thought there was a bit of a storm in the press prior to the first leg in the Juve tie, where it was said that Alderweireld wanted to feature and, thereby, considered himself fit enough?

Don't think so, was just press stiring stuff.
