The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Disgusting. Outrage over this is well and truly deserved. Even Republicans have always maintained that legal immigrants are not the problem. People spend 19+ years at times to get the green card. Then to just destroy their lives on pure prejudice against people of certain religion and countries is shameful. It does not matter if he if fulfilling his election promise, this should be opposed.
Nothing wrong with it at all. It's a temporary ban on individuals from high-risk countries until a review lasting a few weeks has been carried out on the USA immigration system which will determine stricter measures to be put in place to better vet against the entry of potential security threats. Pretty logical procedure.

Are we really to believe that such reviews haven't taken place before? What happens if the facts don't match what Trump has decided to make up in his head? It all stinks to me if I'm honest.

Ultimately states have a right, even a duty, to protect their borders in accordance with the wishes of their population. If (and it's a big if) a wall can achieve that then it's a legitimate means. The problem with Trump's wall is all the demonising and bullying rhetoric surrounding it.

Good post, in the present system that is certainly correct.

Even though most majority Muslim countries are not on the list "extreme vetting" will mean most applicants will not be granted entry visas. What happens to green card holders or US citizens who have relatives or married to people in those Muslim countries that are banned from entry?

Is this not against the US constitution banning government from either favouring or discriminating against particular religions?

The constitution is interpreted by 9 judges. They have to decide if banning people from 90% Muslim countries = banning Muslims, and if they have the authority to contradict executive action on national security. On both counts they're likely to say no.

If the facts don't match then he'll have to abide by them, he's a successful businessman and not stupid enough to overrule his own appointed secretaries. He made a pledge during the election campaign to reassess immigration policy, he got voted in, he's able to do this with his executive orders, so now he's doing it with a "better safe than sorry" approach.

I'm sure similar reviews have been taking place all the time but never by a non-hyper sensitive PC politician.

The uncertainty around green card holders makes absolutely no sense. It basically punishes whoever was unlucky enough to be travelling when the announcement was made. Why not also withdraw all green cards given to people from those countries?

Dont give him ideas.

Aye. Aside from any sort of moral objections, it's simply bad government.

How's this liberal Republican thing working out.

See my post above yours...there is no uncertainty.

Green card holders from those countries who are currently outside the US won't be allowed back in for the time being.

This is from DHS.

Yeah just saw that after posting. Also seeing reports on Twitter that they're being pressurized to sign a form giving up their green card at the airport and are not being allowed access to lawyers. Can't imagine what a nightmare this must be for those stuck at airports.

Thankfully I returned to the US (student visa) in December, I don't think I'll make thew trip next year.

We are definitely the bad guys

Hopefully she suffers heavily politically for this, supreme cowardice mixed with sycophancy in rushing over there so quickly.

You don't think she said the right thing?

It's one thing to tell him to his face what she thinks of the US policy but quite another thing for her to cause friction by publicly criticising his every move. It would be utterly foolish. We don"t want a leader who chooses to come to blows with every foreign leader whose views we disagree with. Just think how many of those there are in the world.

The liberal elite

Hahaha...take a poll in the UK, I bet at least 50% agree with Trump and want the UK to do the same.
We've done loads of polling on Trump and his ideas, he's hated here to the extent that Nigel Farage has to say he doesn't agree with him on everything.

ComRes poll suggests otherwise. Others have suggested the same.

He can build a wall as much as he likes, but while all the attention is based around the land border, what the feck is he going to be doing about the coastline?
Don't worry, he's focused on the waterboarder too.

It's not true. Who the feck sits on news like this? It'd be on PornHub by now.

I don't know, the Brits have weird injunctions and gag orders in press over important news. May be they've been put on hold until May solidifies a trade deal or two in favor of the UK.
