The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

What a joke those protests are, what are they going to achieve?

It's not hip to accept democracy these days, they are hoping to re-run the election, good luck with that.

Me thinks you've misunderstood democracy.

Were the large Tea Party protests during the Obama administration that formed a groundswell influence on the rise of Trump merely "hip"? Or the media fuelled populist clamour for Brexit, for that matter?

Acceptance of the current elected status quo would've nipped both in the bud, but now it's apparently out of order? How does that work?

I thought the right to be obnoxiously anti-establishment was the corner stone of democratic society? Or does that only apply in opposition to snowflake liberals?

The irony of the right wing co-opting of free speech is never more evident than in their convenient abandonment of it in victory.

Yep, you're right.

A good thing. Jared is also a Dem so Josh can bring him up to speed on whats happening.

Is he? Or is it just his father? Cause from what I've read he was largely responsible for Pence as VP...which isn't a very Dem thing to do...

All the Kushners are - as is Ivanka (despite claiming she's an independent). Kushner recommended Pence for obvious reasons given that Christie prosecuted his dad and sent him to jail. Trump was obviously not going to pick a Dem as VP so Kushner had to work within the parameters he was given. He will also be a stable counterweight to Bannon's idiocy.

Again, though, is this definitive and genuine? As in, is he actually going to be working with a Democrat agenda in mind, or with the agenda of nullifying Trump at all? Or is he just looking to serve his own interests, and maybe flip back to the Dems in a few years after all the damage has been done so he can feel warm and fuzzy inside?

I get the idea of staying close to Trump so he can have some sway, but thus far I've seen little to suggest him or Ivanka are actually going to do anything which acts against Republican interests. For all the talk of Leonardo Di Caprio and Al Gore meeting Ivanka to discuss climate change, for instance, there's still little to suggest Trump isn't going to go ahead with his massively damaging plan of reversing energy initiatives and drastically harming the EPA.

They are obviously limited based on what Trump wants, but they are definitely a good counterweight to the likes of Bannon, Flynn et al. Jared, for example, is good friends with Cory Booker, who is now a Senator from NJ and emerging as one of Drumpf's vocal opponents.

Bannon seems to be running the show early on. He co wrote the inauguration speech and had the Theresa May visit pushed forward.

Yes I'm sure he is. Luckily, Kushner just got approved to work in the WH yesterday and along with Priebus, Ivanka, and Jared, I think they will form a good team to offset Flynn and Bannon.

I just saw that Spicer press briefing. Aside from the batshit content, shouldn't being comfortable speaking to cameras be a fairly important skill to have?

This women's march is an absolute joke.

Ridiculous hysteria about Trump whipped up by the MSM and out of touch celebrities.

They fail to realise they are only turning people away from their bs cause.

Trump is president for at least four years hopefully eight, deal with it.
Oh so you're the one Trump supporter, is there anything you disagree with him on? Or do you (like the rest) see everything he does through tinted glasses like some cult leader?

I've gotta be honest. I don't usually expose myself to this much politics (over the last year or so). Is it as shambolic as it seems or is this pretty much as it usually is?

Obama did a lot of things many disagreed with as President, however they had respect for the office of the president and what it stands for and did not disrespect the office as this march has done today the day after the inauguration.

I really don't get the hype about numbers at the inauguration or the women's march. The obsession from the lefty MSM is tedious but expected as it is their style, but for Trump's own press secretary to spend so much fecking time on it. It wasn't something that needed to be countered. Firstly there's the location. Then there's the beefed up security and riots. Then there's the unprecedented bitterness and rage over the election result. Numbers are not something worth competing with Obama over because it wasn't something Trump or any other Republican could hope to win. Or Hillary for that matter. Or most other Democrats.

If you held the inauguration and women's march in Texas or Oklahoma you'd see radically different numbers. Any Republican is going to pull in fewer numbers in DC than any Democrat, even in a totally uncharged and less bitter election.

All in all, a dreadful choice of press secretary.

The press secretary was crap, but he was told to say all that. Likely by the President.
