The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

It’s not a “miracle” for the GOP if they hold onto the Senate. It’s any one of McSally, Gardner, Collins, or Tillis’ seats being held, and GOP are favourites to pick up Alabama. Then the Dems are really looking around for somewhere to flip it.
I’m not saying the Dems won’t get a majority in the Senate, though I wouldn’t bet much money on them getting more than 50, but to dismiss the GOP chances as “needing a miracle” just isn’t true.

It would be interesting to look at seats available in 2022. Often a party can be very fortunate in timing here, as in which seats are up for grabs when.
Trump is making what could be his last stand in the SCOTUS today to stop the release of his financial records and Tax records. If he loses, and he should, he will be badly exposed and so will his enablers and anyone who supported him todate.

I doubt it'll be that bad, his tax records aren't exactly top secret, anyone in the Tax Dept probably would have seen them. It's not like it's going to state "XXX Payment from Putin"

Some positive updates coming from the SCOTUS hearing.

We're hoping more for 'Not actually a billionaire' I think. With 'Definitely cheated on his previous taxes' as an added bonus. That second one is far more likely than it may sound by the way. The IRS may have audited him, but that doesn't mean they dug into all his past dealings.

'Mitch McConnell was speaking to Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump in an online fundraiser on Monday night. Asked about Obama “slamming” the administration for its response to the coronavirus outbreak, he said: “I think President Obama should have kept his mouth shut. You know, we know he doesn’t like much this administration is doing. That’s understandable. But I think it’s a little bit classless, frankly, to critique an administration that comes after you."'

He's not a billionaire, he already officially filed for bankruptcy several times. You don't need tax for that.

My guess is that he's one step ahead, creating all the image of having his dark secrets in his tax return as a red herring for us to chase. When it finally see the light he'll play the "see, i'm witch hunted all along" card. All presidential nominee got vetted pretty vigorously it's like a confession with god, i don't think he'll have anything incriminating.

Can't he simply ignore the SCOTUS?

It's not about him complying (although no he can't just ignore SCOTUS), its about the third parties who hold his records who are being subpoenaed. They certainly aren't going to try and ignore a SCOTUS ruling just to please Trump.

I believe he's been fiddling his financials his entire adult life, and he's been so determined to keep them hidden because he knows that once serious investigators start digging through them he's in real trouble. We'll see though, as he's certainly going to lose the current case.

I'm not sure if it's the case in front of the SC - but the NY prosecutors were looking to validate what Cohen accused him of - over-inflating the Trump foundation's assets in order to secure loans fraudulently, and then under-declaring the assets when it comes to tax time.

Yeah, I think the takeaway from 2018 was those results made a Dem Senate majority unlikely in 2020 (we’ll see) but opened the door re 2022. If I recall correctly.
Unlikely but it's so important for the Dems to push Amy McGrath against McConnell. With him gone this country and look forward.

A man with multiple bankruptcies who inflates and deflates the value of his properties to make himself look good is certainly not one step ahead. You don't think trump has anything incriminating in his financial disclosures or statements???

I’d love for you to be right. But we’ve seen Teflon Don dodge enough silver bullets already, in his campaign and administration, that I don’t get why people are acting like, when the next one rolls around, that THIS will suddenly be the one that makes his supporters drop him.

Maybe people are just trying to will it into reality or convince themselves he’s finally done, which is fair enough, or maybe people like the ideal of “if I make this grand statement online I can gloat about it if it happens.” Or people like to like certain, and therefore informed, on the internet. I’m not saying those last 2 are you as I’ve never seen your posts before this “miracle” talk, but there are plenty on here like that.

Annnnnd he's off again...

This one's a beauty...

Let's not forget that as well as the two supreme court hearings today, Fauci is also going to be speaking before Congress.

Trump is desperately trying to once again shift and control the narrative by flooding Twitter with his inane, Adderall fuelled ramblings.

Larry Hogan would like to have a word about that last one. Literally smuggled test kits into the country with the help of his wife and is hiding them so cheetolini can’t confiscate them.

his tax returns, even though it's elusive, it's actually submitted to the IRS. You'd think if there's actually incriminating evidence it would have been found out by now.

It's not actually a secret list, it's just a Tax Return which accountant firm creates. There's not going to be anything legally incriminating.

He specifically said "go ask China" to the Asian American in the room. Why didn't he say it to others? He's a racist cnut.
She’s Chinese too, if that makes it worse (though I imagine Trump is the type to call all east Asian people Chinese)

Hes always saying go check China etc. I think thats a bit overblown, theres plenty of more shit to throw at him

It's not that simple though, some of the financial crimes he's suspected of committing are tied to loan applications differing from tax declarations. He could have been honest on the tax return and still have committed crimes on the loan applications.

Reading through the updates from the SCOTUS case, you can see the conservative judges looking for some way to give a ruling that isn't totally against Trump, and over the over Trump's idiot lawyers keep insisting on extreme positions that no SCOTUS is ever going to agree with.

Judge: "So what limitations would you place on congressional power to subpoena the president?"
Idiot: "No-one anywhere should be able to investigate or indict the president in any way ever, and that includes saying nasty things about him! It should all be totally illegal (until the next Democrat is in the White House)!!

His tax returns should include the source of his income. When that turns out to be Russians, Chinese or Deutsche Bank (backed by Russian money laundering), it should be a death knell for his presidency.

The president referring to new judges as essentially something he/his party owns is just insane.

I don't know much about taxes but I doubt that his tax records contain any sort of obvious illegality or the IRS would have investigated him by themselves, wouldn't they? You can't just submit a return that says you got 10 million dollars from a Russian gangster but here's the tax and get away with that.

Clarence Thomas finally asking questions due to the 'taking turns' system is really highlighting what a fecking idiot the man is. It makes sense now that he's usually silent during questioning.

Michael Cohen accused him of inflating the value of his assets on finance applications while minimising the value of the same assets on his tax returns.

That’s both accounting fraud and tax fraud.

It sounds like Trump’s attorneys have had to reduce this down to the argument that subpoena’s against Trump are a mental distraction from his job and it doesn’t seem to be landing.

I’d really like to see someone note that he’s played golf on 1 in every 3 days of his presidency and he might actually have time for the distraction.

I’m amazed at how awake he sounds. I always have him pinned as just waking up from a nap

Mad that Jay Sekulow gets to argue anything in front of SCOTUS. Saul Goodman Lite. He’s never argued a federal criminal case before ffs.

Trump isn't afraid of being exposed as a criminal, he's afraid of being exposed as not as rich has he says he is.

This. He knows he's a criminal and conman, notwithstanding a huge narcissist. What he cares about most is how people see him in terms of his finances. Most tax experts have concluded that based on his previous bankruptcies and finanial troubles, he's cash poor.

"I don't care about how difficult it is. I've said it can be done easily so just get it done"

Trump is that manager we've all had that we hate.

That Mitch guy's neck is revolting. Was he hugely obese before? Where does that extra 10 pounds of neck flesh come from? Does it flap about in the wind?

Just putting aside for one moment the fact that it’s a complete unmitigated lie, and the Obama administration actually did have specific plans for this kind of thing and warned Trump of the risk, and that Trump abolished the office set up for that sole purpose. Ignore that for one second.

Trump had been POTUS for 3 years at the time this situation arose. At what point does “it’s the last guy’s fault” stop being a reasonable position for Joe Republican?
