Thats quite a troll from 4chan if true

Still im not at all surprised to see the press run with this. They're all equally clickbait these days and have no more moral standing than Fox, especially the once great guardian.l thats now reduced to begging.

It could be either or all quite easily.

If it is true that the FBI report contains made up information from a 4chan user then all bets are off on what information you take seriously.

You have to question everything else that is included. To be honest with known information like the DNC rigging i'm genuinely surprised people don't already but that is the power of MSM and institutions like government, FBI etc..
From the reporting, the dossier was largely compiled through Russian sources - so it's easy enough to assume at least some will be giving you misinformation. Though, I doubt in their wildest dreams they thought it would be quite so transparent.

Suppose we will find out soon if its the real memo.
Possibly, but if it is future versions will be redacted and have information that has also been alleged elsewhere independently. Namely, Trumps business links to Russian oligarchs and his campaign staff links to the Russian secret services which was being alleged for the past year by multiple sources.

It's about as ironic as Clinton supporters being duped by it tbf.

I think it's one thing to be duped by supposed Intelligence reports, and another thing to believe Hilary Clinton was the mastermind behind a child sex ring taking place in a pizza parlour in DC.

I don't think the Guardian has mentioned the supposed 4chan part. Just buzzfeed, followed by some publications making jokes about it (Penthouse offering to pay $1M for the vid, for example).

I see people are using this as an opportunity to sneer at the "MSM" but if you look at the way this is covered in a publication like the Guardian it's far more cautious and considered than the sort of click-bait websites that go viral on social media. When was the last time you saw a fake news article shared on Facebook with a headline like this?
John McCain passes dossier alleging secret Trump-Russia contacts to FBI
  • Russian intelligence alleged to have compromising material on Trump
  • Unverified and potentially unverifiable’ reports published by BuzzFeed

Journalistic integrity like this is exactly why the survival of "MSM" is critical to avoid us slipping into a world where any old shite is shared and immediately accepted as gospel by people who think the best way to find the "truth" is on youtube.

For what it’s worth, Wilson has been the object of ire and ridicule on 4chan before, particularly after an MSNBC appearance in which he referred to some Trump supporters as “childless single men who masturbate to anime.” So it is conceivable 4chan’s story was invented to seek further retribution.

 I like the cut of his jib...

It's worth pointing out the only places that have picked up the "4chan did it" story are /r/the_donald on reddit and reason.com. /r/the_donald is genuinely batshit crazy and even they're going with "if true" because there's feck all to suggest 4chan actually did it for the moment. And reason.com is a kind of "feck off, let me smoke my weed and shoot a deer" outlet who was cautious enough to point out the lack of evidence for the claim.

Basically, what we know is that we don't know any details for certain yet but almost everyone thinks Russia has compromised Trump.

The Guardian have a habbit of pushing things through their 'live stories' which is much more questionable than the articles. They change stuff constantly to get away with it, at the moment the title is "Russia has compromising material on Trump". Its not exactly careful language.

Saying that i agree with your point in general its still a million miles better than other outlets. Just wish it hadn't lowered itself especially regarding its partisan reporting.

Metro's chimed in now, actually, so that's another one - their article includes:

4chan full of shit? Who could have ever guessed.

Not exactly going to admit to it is he?

I'm not sure i believe any of this especially if the FBI didn't follow through on it.

Publishing potential hit jobs while putting allegedly in front of it is not journalistic integrity in the way i understand it.

What you would normally do is verify if a story is true and then publish if you wanted it to be a credible news piece.

The last thing i would call it is considered.

Yeah, there does seem to be a race to the bottom for online media in general. It's a pity but inevitable when you look at how they have to generate income. It would be great if their "begging" bore fruit because that's the only way I see them maintaining their high standards from the past.

That's not how online media works. It's still a damn sight more considered than the vast majority of other sources out there. Which was my point.

In conjunction with everything else, it's almost certain 4chan is bullshitting. This story first appeared in Mother Jones in August, the first 4chan post is in November, 4chan hates Wilson and has previous with him so will obviously besmirch him at every opportunity. And there's no archived evidence of the supposed fanfiction having ever appeared on the website. It would be very easy to prove had the golden shower story appeared anywhere else.

True or not, we should already have, or will very soon see explicit evidence for this. Otherwise it's porkies.

Francis Fukuyama mentiones that the Russians might have something on Trump a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if that makes the possibilty more credible. The Russians could have got the details from Snowden, I suppose.

Snowden knows literally nothing about this, he's been entirely quiet (https://twitter.com/Snowden)* and he fled in 2013 FFS

*His only tweet about it is the surprise that the FBI couldn't get a warrant for a Trump investigation through the secret court that approves 99% of warrants

Why couldn't hehave something pre-2013 ?:lol::lol:

This is allegedly the work of a British agent, on the basis of sources within hotels and cameras.
Snowden was handling SIGINT, and was fairly low-level. It is quite implausible he is in any way the source.

Buzzfeeds defence for publishing this is interesting. Basically "it'll help unearth the truth which is what everyone wants".

Thats a very low standard to set i think.

More like we'll be the first to get the ball rolling. Apparently the documents and dossiers existed for a while but no one took them at face value, so may be publishing a few pages would get things rolling.

I realise he's a fine upstanding American citizen so there's no chance of him being involved in dodgy practices or bribing politicians etc
No, I mean Snowden, why would he have anything on Trump? While he did work for the NSA and will have had access to everything Trump, it would take more than extraordinary foresight for Snowden to have taken Trumps data.

It wasn't. Someone on 4chan basically said "lol we made it up" last night, then someone on /r/the_donald linked to an archived post from November which said he sent fake info to Rick Wilson. But that's all the evidence there is, and the dossier is older than those posts anyway. Basically, people got fake news'd about potentially fake news.

Rick Wilson was bragging about a massive Trump oppo dump during the campaign Was this it ?

Yes. It even came out, without details, in the run up and we were all disappointed about how underwhelming it was (because Mother Jones said it in August). All that's happened now is that there are secret services backing the story implicitly and Buzzfeed has published the dossier.
