The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Much like Trump's victory speech. It's easy to be magnanimous in victory or defeat. Carefully chosen words after the fact.

I think it's the opposite actually. She can let loose a bit more.

Yes he would have if he ran with the same agenda he just ran in this election. If the last opponent was not a Mormon, he would have won against Obama.
He wouldn't have received his party's nomination four years ago. No chance.

Do you think that if Trump ran 4 years ago against Obama that he would have won?

Edit - genuine question, not making a smart remark!

I think Obama's full tenure has given rise to a lot of followers of Trump.

So no, I don't think he would've won.

I kind of feel sorry for her. I dont know much of her politics activities but she was humiliated by her husband in one of the biggest scandals in history and stuck with him and was beaten by the most unpopular candidate in history, essentially ending her political career

Not a chance Trump defeats Romney, the Repubicans were not in the same mess they were in going into this campaign. Plus Obama would have destroyed Trump head to head.

If the people vote to have him run for the presidency, how are they going to stop him from being nominated? Why did they not stop him this time with all the controversy?

That bit on BBC just now was unintentionally great.

'I was hoping I would be able to shed some light on why LGBT people voted for Trump...
*cue 10 seconds of awkward silence*'

4 years ago was a different time, it is not safe to assume people voting today would have voted the same way 4 years ago. Things just don't work that way.

He's wrong. Evangelicals went with Romney regardless of his mormon background.
Yeah, it's not an argument I've ever heard before. Obama won because he could turn people out to vote.

To Americans, Is it possible that Hillary took this lightly thinking there isn't a chance of trump winning? It did seem like it in the debate when she didn't really go full throttle on his issues.

I just meant that it's standard politician talk, nothing new there. Congratulate your opponent, thank your base, vow to keep on fighting if you lost or vow to deliver if you won.

Every election I've seen around here is the same, losers always look nice when they say "I already called the winner to congratulate". Winners look nice by saying they will be the President/Prime Minister of everyone, including the ones that voted against them.

It's the circumstances that make their speeches look good, plus the fact that there is nothing to gain or lose anymore. Rarely you'll see the defeated spewing sore loser bile, or the winner acting arrogantly. Western politics, is all. Don't see what was so great about her speech.

They voted for Trump?

Well amidst the chaos elsewhere, Nevada went for a blue sweep. Clone Harry Reid and put one in every state.

Yeah. Agreed. Plus they don't write their own speeches anyway. All they have to do is read words someone else has written off an autocue.

Mind you, she at least deserves credit for being so composed. She must be absolutely devastated but the absence of tears is a big deal when it comes to fighting the perception that women are too fragile and emotional for the really big jobs.

Either she has been crying or she has been hitting that medical MJ hard. I recognize those watery eyes, got them myself right now.
She seems stronger than I expected tbh. 'You don't get always what you want' is gonna be the hallmark of her political career. But she is just achieved much more than that though. She is having a terrible experience right now and I'm really sorry for her.

I'm not American but I really doubt that. Too much at stake to take anything lightly. It's just that sometimes it's probably hard to gauge what will be best. She may have not gone full throttle on his issues because she (her campaign, who more likely advise them on these things) thought it would be counter-productive. Do you win more votes by taking the higher ground, or by getting into the cheap shot battle? It's probably these questions that are hard to answer and that end up screwing them in the end. Trump made the right bets and made fools of everyone else.

Cuba to launch military exercises to prepare for ‘range of enemy actions’
Announcement of five days of nationwide maneuvers and tactical exercises across the country came nearly simultaneously with Trump’s surprise win

It just occurred to me that, Steve Bannon will be one of the people running government.
STEVE FECKING BANNON!
You guys did not try.

No way. With black voter turnout like he had, even Hillary would have stomped Trump. She was the onl candidate he could win against. Bernie would probably have crushed him since he ran on an anti establishment platform as well.

What are the odds, that she gets/takes a position in the Trump administration?

What? :D

Seems like he could be in for a nasty surprise regarding the supreme court.

He got asked about that and said:

'Its a bit like Roe vs Wade: its not going to happen'

Not actually sure what his point was.

I think Clinton did the right thing by not mentioning that she won the popular vote.

Could've been seen as divisive.
