Meh. He was probably broke at the time and lashing out at everyone who was making more money than him.

He's completely transactional and will go with whatever he thinks will draw attention. The interesting bit is that whatever he was proposing then is basically double what Warren is proposing now.

Yes, that's just the petty jealousy and hate we know he has for anyone more successful than him.

It's my guess he has shit on everyone which is why they are afraid to stand up to him and he also knows the countries biggest secrets too.
Roy Cohn playbook yeah? Wouldn't surprise me at all...

He's got away with no checks on him for the first 2 years, now he's getting a harsh lesson on what Obama put up with under bagface Mitch.

Oh for a second I thought that might be Nancy Sinatra there. So helpful they spelled her name on the back!

Nah, to be on the left (or centre, or right) he'd have to have a genuine opinion on something.

All he is is soundbites and sales pitches. He has no ideology whatsoever.

I think it's pretty clear he does have an ideology, and it's on the right. People made the mistake of thinking he'd "pivot", and that he was just saying these things because that's what he had to say to get elected. And yet apart from the perpetual scandals and foreign policy blunders he's pretty much governed like any GOP president.

He's done that because it worked for him until now. He's fluid because he's always trying to sell, he has no fixed views on anything. If his base decided they were all for gun rights and healthcare for all he'd sign an executive order on the spot to get the praise and adulation.

It's just that his selling technique involves bullying and nothing else and Pelosi won't be bullied.

Roger Stone's quote: "Trump will say and do anything." Stone left out " ...for power, advantage, and adulation. "

He's daft enough to declare National Emergency. Perhaps moving this to a legal limbo will benefit him and he can save face with the hardliners.
I hope he does. And then Bernie declares National Emergency because of Global Warming the first day he becomes president.

Has it? It worked when he was elected president, yes, but that's two years ago. He's been courting the base and ignoring the rest for those two years, and unfortunately for him his base isn't big enough to get him re-elected in two years.

His base might not be enough to win him the election but we all know how divided American population is along party lines.

Courting his base is only going to strengthen him further and give him his dose of validation.

It's definitely divided, but right now he's moving the needle further in the Democrats favour. And there were already more people who identified as Democrats than Republicans by a fair margin before Trump got his hands on the party. I just don't see how this strengthens him. Has anything he's done so far as president shown a president acting in strength?

I think GOP are screwed for the next election. Have someone primary against Trump and a lot of time and money will be spent cannibalising. How fiercely they compete against Trump and what they attack him for will need to be very measured.

Forget the Primary and let him run and you’re going to see a lot of turn out just to see the back of this drama.

A vast majority of the base will still be on his side, and those who aren't will either be moderates or people who are even more extreme than him who are pissed they didn't get a wall. Either way, a plus for the Dems
