One thing is to get involved in conflicts completety different to create one from scratch.
It’s also incredibly dangerous in that it would give the US’s autocratic adversaries free reign to go full on neo-imperialist to fill the void. Just look at Putin’s work in Ukraine and Syria during the feckless Obama/Trump years and China’s descent into SE Asia and Africa. As long as the international system remains anarchic, the US will continue to compete for market share with its autocratic rivals, and having a democratic state running the show is far more preferable than a mafia dictatorship or quasi Communist autocracy.
