The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

He is basically begging to be impeached. But still won't happen.

Give it time. He still needs to estrange himself from the GOP congress. At that point, he will be vulnerable if they have something on him, as they will be quite happy to work with Pence, who is one of them.

He's put the tweet on his instagram too.

Actually he does have a point...

As it stands he does not have to walk into the middle of a pissing contest between Obama and putin that could potentially lead to questions about the election validity...

Clever move by putin to understand that and sensible move from trump actually...though I'm convinced he will start a war with somebody pretty soon at least it might not be a nuclear one with russia

If he's been compromised by the Russians or whatever, he's being way too obvious. Probably just genuinely admires them or else plans to team up with them against China.

It is not important what he says. It is just a show for his audience. He will keep saying what *his voters* want to hear. ("The liberals are stupid. You -the republicans- are smart, you are the winners.")

And in a way, this is reasonable. Do you expect that anyone with some intelligence and knowledge will ever applaud him? Probably, not. So he wants to keep the liberals pissed and thus make his voters happy. And yes, his voters are happy that the liberals are pissed, they won't get anything else anyway, nor do they expect anything else.

Being one himself, he obviously loves a good authoritarian.

This whole twitter thing is quite surreal.

Any other person would have been told by his advisors to lay off the tweeting and probably would have done so, but I suspect Trump just doesn't have the personality to easily accept advice or guidance.

This is show business.

First and foremost, you want to keep your audience. It does not matter if your audience is smart or stupid. You cannot please everyone. First and foremost you have to keep your audience, they have to tune in.

Second, you have to be in the news. No publicity is bad publicity.

Why would "his advisors" tell him otherwise? It is not his goal to make everyone happy.

Mate, with all due respect we are talking about the president elect here... No, he doesn't have to do all this, he isn't winning anyone over, he's not taking the heat off of his other issues. Shut up and crack on... It's embarrassing, and surely counter productive.

If the NY Times praise him, his supporters would be angry. Why would he want that? If his supporters wanted someone reasonable, they'd vote for someone else. The republican primaries started with 16 candidates.

Can't believe you fools are falling for the spoof trump Twitter account
Every time I check just to make sure... I'm still not convinced it's not a spoof.

Yea you've got me... They obviously wanted more than just the win? Fcuked if I know what it was again... Oh yea, MAGA... That was it right?

We all have to understand that half of the population voted for Trump because they want Trump. They did not vote for Trump hoping that he will change and become someone else! :(

Loads thought his attitude and persona would change a little after the election. Loads begrudgingly voted for him.... Or that's what I was told.

He also ran on a promise to "drain the swamp", before promptly surrounding himself with swamp-dwellers upon winning.

Surely he's putting his own safety in great danger when he steps into the job? For all the spinelessness of the GOP and those around Trump, I suspect if he genuinely begins to compromise US interests or security whilst in power due to his fondness for Russia, the CIA and FBI aren't going to stand for it? He's building up way too many important enemies with his conflicts of interest...and if he doesn't have anyone stringently guiding him on not tweeting stupid shit, who's looking out for him if he really begins to compromise his own safety?

The problem may be the effect it has upon voters. A lot of Trump supporters have displayed unwavering loyalty to the man instead of the party. Even if he's booted out and they carry on his policies, it's difficult to see any other alternative than a large portion of Trump supporters who wanted change and who wanted something different essentially turning on the party, thus destroying their future electoral chances.

I'm not sure it works in case of impeachment but if it happened, for example, could Trump then run as an independent? Cause if so (or if he put a proxy like one of his kids in his place) it'd be a bloodbath for the Republicans, and they'd likely know that.

The CIA and FBI do not operate in a vacuum, and the citizens most eager and well prepared to attempt such a thing are the ones that voted for him. The foreign interest most disposed to attempt such a thing is Russia, and he is already maneuvering to get them on his side.

Political parties past and present have proven to be inept at dealing with a hostile takeover from populism/authoritarian movement. Half of the GOP base are already in thrall to Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones and the Cheeto Jesus. It's pure naïveté to believe that the likes of McConnell or McCain would ever have the balls to impeach Von Clownstick. They've put personal ambition over both party and country all the way.

FFS, it's getting so that people who are late for work will just start blaming Russian hacking.
"Russian Hackers got into my Virgin Media and bought £1000 of porn"

The Trump/Russia connection is about as interesting as the JonBenet Ramsey case.

The guy is guilty as sin and will be held to account in the coming months/years

Yeah this tweet in particular is exceptionally cringeworthy to where it may actually poison the well with most GOP Senators before he even has a chance to take office. His other non-foreign policy agenda items may be in jeopardy as a result.

So you finally think this is the beginning of the end for him and he's finally gone too far?

Tax returns could be part of the smoking gun. If it turns out he owes Russian banks lots of money, then that would make sense.

It's been proven he owes serious money to Russian banks and investors. Obviously this was reported before but nobody gave a shit, because well, they just hate liberals. Just like the majority of the people who just come in this thread to wind everyone up and throw their "liberal" insults around, they don't have much to say aside from mocking or gloating and being rude. However I notice many have been exceptionally quiet recently because all this is completely indefensible.

All that aside though, this is just yet more shit on top of a giant shit sandwich. The man is so obviously thick, untrustworthy, corrupt and mentally ill. I know I've said this ad nauseam but I sincerely cannot believe that you can actually become the President of the United States of America without having to release your tax records, even privately to members of the Senate or Congress or whatever, but at the very minimum to someone. On top of that I can't believe that the person who wins the election isn't subject to a full physical and mental health medical. It's completely unthinkable that you get stricter employment checks when going for a job in McDonalds than you do for the fecking President of the country. Surely if any lessons are to be learnt from this clusterfeck shitshow then it's that there need to be far stricter rules and background checks on anyone running for the Presidency. It seems that it's previously been left to the Press and then for the Public to use that information to make their collective minds up, but when the candidate has convinced half the public that the press lies, and that even if they aren't lying, that the information doesn't matter, well, then it's obvious that there needs to be stricter rules to prevent this type of thing happening again.

No its just another one of his idiotic tweets. The end will come when he breaks the law and his GOP friends in Congress wont be able to look the other way and will be forced to whip up articles of impeachment.

Fair enough, but do you think he's already broken/breaking the law? And do you believe the stories that Putin has loads of shit on him and is using it against him/threatening to do so? That would explain why they didn't release any of the information they got from hacking the RNC servers during the election. Or is Putin just playing the Moron Elect like a fiddle by stroking his ego and saying a few niceties about him every now and again?

There's so much material out there that the next 3/4 years will be a complete siege. He won't have time to get anything done.

This is the funniest thread I've read here in quite some time. Some posters probably forgot to take their medication, because the level of absurdity is way off the charts.

Trump shouldn't tweet stuff like that, he has to remind himself this is big politics now and not show business anymore. The whole Putin love-in is overblown by the media that went to unprecedented lengths to make him look bad and The Donald being a spiteful man and remembering all the shit written/said about him by these people just can't keep his mouth shut, or should I say, his Twitter account inactive.

This whole hysteria is the sign of a deep crisis of American society and its political system. Does anyone really believe Putin or Russian intelligence are capable of having such effect on the most powerful country on the planet? It's preposterous. This reminds of the time following the September 11 terrorist attacks when the American society was in a state of a deep shock and the media played on those feelings of fear and anger and that eventually led to the disaster of massive proportions which was the invasion of Iraq with most of the country fully supporting it at the time.

Dear Clinton supporters! You've lost, so deal with it. It's not Putin and Russia, it's American people who voted for Trump. And no, he's not Putin's puppet, I seriously doubt his politics will favor Russia at all in which case all the people making this outlandish claims about him being Russia's agent/Putin's buddy will look like even bigger fools than they already are.

The president of the United States just roasted a losing mma fighter on twitter.
The most 2016/17 post I have ever typed.

One of the most naive, ignorant, burry-head-in-sand posts posted in a while.

Theoretical question:
What does the American constitution foresees if both the president and VP turn incapable of doing their jobs? For example, Trump has a stroke which damages his intellectual capacities even further, and Pence dies from a heart attack hearing the news?
Would somebody else from the reigning party (GOP in that instance) be elected and if so by whom? Or would there be early elections?
Thanks & have a happy new year.

There is a designated line of succession. Speaker is third, I think. Unless you're talking to Al Haig.

No elections. Elections happen every 4 years. Party is not important, either! Here is the full list:
