Bipartisanship! Yay!
On fake news...

Adding to the problem is that in the last months of the campaign, and also in the time since the election, we've seen an epidemic of factually loose, clearly politically motivated reporting about Russia. Democrat-leaning pundits have been unnervingly quick to use phrases like "Russia hacked the election."

This has led to widespread confusion among news audiences over whether the Russians hacked the DNC emails (a story that has at least been backed by some evidence, even if it hasn't always been great evidence), or whether Russians hacked vote tallies in critical states (a far more outlandish tale backed by no credible evidence).

As noted in The Intercept and other outlets, an Economist/YouGov poll conducted this month shows that 50 percent of all Clinton voters believe the Russians hacked vote tallies.

This number is nearly as disturbing as the 62 percent of Trump voters who believe the preposterous, un-sourced Trump/Alex Jones contention that "millions" of undocumented immigrants voted in the election.

Then there was the episode in which the Washington Post ran that breathless story about Russians aiding the spread of "fake news." That irresponsible story turned out to have been largely based on one highly dubious source called "PropOrNot" that identified 200 different American alternative media organizations as "useful idiots" of the Russian state.

The Post eventually distanced itself from the story, saying it "does not itself vouch for the validity of PropOrNot's findings." This was a very strange thing to say in a statement that isn't an outright retraction. The idea that it's OK to publish an allegation when you yourself are not confident in what your source is saying is a major departure from what was previously thought to be the norm in a paper like the Post.

There have been other excesses. An interview with Julian Assange by an Italian newspaper has been bastardized in Western re-writes, with papers like The Guardian crediting Assange with "praise" of Trump and seemingly flattering comments about Russia that are not supported by the actual text. (The Guardian has now "amended" a number of the passages in the report in question).

And reports by some Democrat-friendly reporters – like Kurt Eichenwald, who has birthed some real head-scratchers this year, including what he admitted was a baseless claim that Trump spent time in an institution in 1990 – have attempted to argue that Trump surrogates may have been liaising with the Russians because they either visited Russia or appeared on the RT network. Similar reporting about Russian scheming has been based entirely on unnamed security sources.

Every now and then I get a moment of clarity about the absolute fecking STATE of his hair. Rarely do you get such an obvious visual tell about the flawed psychology of a man. It's remarkable really.

Do you rate it better or worse than Chamakh's?

This guy (Scott Dworkin the man behind #TrumpLeaks and The Democratic Coalition Against Trump) has gone hard after the Moron Elect today, (Just look at the Twitter feed) he's Tweeted hundreds of accusations and potential conflicts of interest/actual criminal activities and backed everything up with documents as evidence. I really haven't got the time or energy to go through it all because there is just mountains of stuff. Much of what I saw has been reported before and is common knowledge, however there's a lot of documents I haven't seen before and a lot of new stuff I wasn't aware of such as his sons foundation and his son in laws separate foundation. I'm guessing a lot of stuff isn't actually that new or incriminating but a lot of it does show a lot of very dodgy business practices and dodgy connections, some of it also shows a very clear deceptive path from the Moron Elect and it also raises a lot of questions, although I doubt many people will be asking them or really care which is a shame.

The Trump/Russia connection is about as interesting as the JonBenet Ramsey case.

The more information that comes out, the more I am convinced there was some sort of diabolical coordination between elements of the Trump campaign and Putin's intelligence services. The first shoe to drop was the intelligence community evidence about Russia, the next shoe to drop will be some sort of complicity by the Trump campaign. There is simply no other rational reason why Trump has become so cozy with Putin, attempted to hire a pro-Putin SecState, National Security Advisor, and publicly trusted Putin's view on hacking over that of his own intelligence services. The guy is guilty as sin and will be held to account in the coming months/years

It's definitely real, you can read about it here - http://www.tabletmag.com/scroll/39692/fibi-netanyahu

It's a bit worrying how you seem repeatedly drawn to blatantly antisemitic sources though.
About the last bit, yes - I guess it is. I honestly don't seek out those kinds of people to follow. The way twitter is, it doesn't take many retweets for a lot of followers of followers of followers to include me among the circulation - and I found this to be particularly shocking. More so now, thanks to you. It's even more disturbing to realise that this was common knowledge for so long. feck me. How fecked up is this world?!

Why do you find it so shocking?

Do you think its the conflict of interests that explains his behaviour towards Russia?

Or do you think the Russian intelligence were monitoring him during his visits to Russia and have proof of him doing illegal stuff and are using this as leverage?

I'd seen reports that the Russians have been cultivating Trump for a few years, much as they do with right wing movements in various other European countries. During that period, I'm sure there was some sort of conflict of interest such as Trump wanting to build Trump Towers in Moscow, as well as other similar projects where the Russian government gradually endeared itself to him. The fact that we don't have his taxes is pretty telling since they would reveal the hidden part of where his vulnerabilities with foreign governments are.

Surely this will be too much for some R members of Congress? Or they will just ignore it, Mitch McConnel style? He is basically pissing on the grave of Reagan at the moment.

Yeah this tweet in particular is exceptionally cringeworthy to where it may actually poison the well with most GOP Senators before he even has a chance to take office. His other non-foreign policy agenda items may be in jeopardy as a result.

I presume McCain in particular will be rushing for his high blood pressure medications, and then causing a minor hurricane in Senate .

I think they've got some serious shit on him via hacking.

It's got to be said, the Russians have taken top spot with some seriously well played, underhand, tactics. They've got control of the US.

Lol, so the Cold War was for nothing.
wonder what the republicans always shouting Regan from the rooftops, will be thinking.

The Manchurian candidate.

Just wow.

And I feel like I'm in the minority (over-represented here) that actually cares. A large part of the electorate doesn't care or know either way, another would sell their mothers if it meant winning an election, so this is minor, while another part of the left is still talking about Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Bernie Sanders.

Completely mental that he's pinned that. Also must surely worry Americans that their leader is quite literally making his most important tweet one wherein he praises a foreign dictator. Most democracies deal with dictatorships but like to keep it on the sort of murky down low, ie with Saudi Arabia. Nothing of the sort with Trump.

Tax returns could be part of the smoking gun. If it turns out he owes Russian banks lots of money, then that would make sense.

No doubt the RNC were hacked and they are holding on to the dirt they have dug up. Looks like Trump doesn't use computer or email much.

For a candidate who says he is an authority on modern business, Mr. Trump is slow to adopt technology. In 2007, he said he had no home or office computer.

“Does your secretary send emails on your behalf?” he was asked.

His secretary generally typed letters, Mr. Trump said. “I don’t do the email thing.”

By 2013, Mr. Trump was still not sold on email. “Very rarely, but I use it,” he said under questioning.
