As I said earlier in this thread, he targeted many groups who hold a single belief above everything else and gave them hope. It didn't matter to a lot of these groups that his other policies, stances or opinions are at odds with their own morals, the only thing that matters is that he agrees with them on the single issue that consumes them.
He's a priest and a prophet of sorts from Tamil Nadu, India (where I come from)
His speciality is Revelations and prophecies. For long, he has claimed that EU is the Anti Christ and all Republican Presidents are the saviors and Democratic Presidents as sign of Armageddon.

We can certainly say on a theoretical level, it has become very difficult to run on a platform that might say "I will be moderate and thoughtful about all things". You're not going to get much love from either side. Much better to bring a potpourri of extreme positions, even if they are contradictory on an underlying level. As Trump might say: sad.

He doesn't really have a foreign policy agenda other than allowing the likes of Putin and Bibi to do whatever they want and questioning international organizations like the UN and NATO.
In terms of the public that's true. If the report (private more likely than the public one) is as damning as the intelligence services hint it might be, he'll have a harder time pushing things past SCOTUS.
btw the SC nominee is something that has not been discussed much.
