Personally if I were a member of Congress I'd absolutely have to know who wrote this piece, who was a part of this so called Resistance and who leads it.

My concern would be that if it were Pence then he has potential motives of his own apart from the safety of the country. If he's any part of this then he has no business taking over the Presidency from his position. If he is a part of this then he has been caught up in unconstitutional behaviours and would be unfit to serve as VP let alone as President.
 
Am I the only one that thinks that Op-Ed helps him politically? People are going to ignore the message and focus on what's effectively an administrative coup d'etat.
It's beyond any shadow of a doubt that he has to go. Bob Woodward is a serious journalist and now this letter has me thinking his state of mind is worse than feared .
 
Unless this deep dude or dudettes is high ranked (as in minister of defence rank, secretary of state, or their equivalent) i dont think this will mean much.

It'll slowly fade out to trump shouts of fake news.

And rightly so, without going out in public the credibility of this piece is halfed. Nyt creds are only enough to know that it's not fake, but not enough for trump fans to side against trump.

Even i dont believe he's high ranking enough to actually divert some policy.
 
I have never seen anything like this in any country. Just imagine what could drive a senior admin official to something like this.
 


And THIS is all his base needed to hear. The fact it's complete bullshit doesn't matter. It was so obvious he would go for this line of defence, but at the same time it's obvious his base will lap it up too.

Anyone coming out against Trump will be seen as a traitor. Any efforts made to remove Trump will be seen as the Deep State at work and it will result in violence.

Before anyone goes off on one and thinks I'm predicting a mass uprising or revolution, let me clarify. I'm NOT! I do however think it will kick off and has the potential to get seriously out of hand. Be it small pockets of resistance or riots like L.A. saw or more recently, London and parts of the UK saw, I don't know. But anyone thinking it will end peacefully is naive as hell and imho even ONE life lost would be too many.

I agree with everything in that tweet. But that letter would not be written if the official doesn't think this administration will not go tits up.
That letter was written for either of two things.
  • To cover the GOP's so they don't sink with Trump.
  • A cry for help to House Republicans to get rid of this guy.
Ultimately, I hink this shit helps Trump in the short to medium term, with not losing anymore support.

We keep thinking this. House Republicans aren't going to get party nomination with Trump against them. They are aren't going to turn on him.
 
Can anybody suggest any laws that are potentially being broken by this Resistance?

There is a third possibility- doing a Vlad on the Vladdites. Create doubt, conflict, confusion. Get under his skin. Make the GOP antsy. . Drip. drip.
 
Not sure what to think of the Op-ed. But it somewhat reflects what I thought for quite some time that "in the heat of the moment" Trump often makes comments about certain policies, especially Russia that are gone as soon as he is back home and somehow in a different environment. If it's due to the senior staff interfering or Trump simply getting information that he didn't have at the time of his first statement... I don't know what to believe tbh.

Of course that story would also play into Woodward's claims so it's a bit suspicious if you ask me that this is released around the time he publishes his book. Whatever it is though it certainly delivered a lot of ammunition for the deep state narrative, so Woodward and his publisher wouldn't be the only ones to profit from such an Op-ed. I don't know what to think of all that I just know it smells fishy and I don't like it.

Maybe they think they will lose the midterms "biggly" and now try to cover their asses because they think dems will start impeachment process if the get the majority in the house and senate back?

Same here. I have this niggling feeling that we're being set up. This op-ed helps the white house in some ways, and the negatives were already being covered by Woodward anyway. It's a bit too conveniently timed for my liking.

One would be hopeful that the NYTimes would know how to smell a rat.
If timing is suspect, I would think the writer wants the Kavanaugh confirmation to go through without much scrutiny but the contents of the letter might be real. The writer makes it clear he or she is trying to forward the GOP agenda.

Mark Felt aka deep throat denied it was him even up to his death if I recall. Even after his own attorney confirmed it was him. Woodward and Bernstein later confirmed it was him.

Well he lost the popular vote so I wouldn’t believe it’s far to say they had it coming.

As for the bigoted morons from his base who are now suffering the sting and feeling disillusioned, feck em not an ounce of sympathy from me.

He has to be losing it. I am not sure how much bombardment one man/woman can take at some stage!! It was a carpet bombing week and its not even Friday. Maybe Mueller will feel a bit of sympathy and give him a break.
