The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

And the Russians simply ensured that another reality, that of Hillary Clinton's emails, was known to the American people before they made their decision.

If our judgement is based on who was telling the truth, Putin or Obama, the Russian leader was simply putting incontrovertible facts into the public domain, whereas subsequent events have shown that Obama's characterization of a post-Brexit world was not accurate.

We aren't living in a post-Brexit world, any more than we are experiencing the true horror of Donald Trump as president.

Oh and implying that someone was playing fast and loose with the truth because of a prediction that may or may not come true is a cnut's trick.

If “Did Not Vote” Had Been A Candidate In The 2016 US Presidential Election, It Would Have Won By a Landslide

http://brilliantmaps.com/did-not-vote/
They should have a one two system so if you're first vote did not win that vote automatically goes to you're second choice. That may eliminate the farcical third party candidate who only wants the protest vote to validate their ego. Steins votes in Wis Mich Penn most likely would have rolled to Clinton saving us from the Trumpski administration.
The fact that nearly half the electorate failed to vote when one candidate was Donald Trump confirms to me that America is not the smartest, best or noblest country it professes to be. I do believe after this election and observing what is happening in NC that the GOP is a clear and present danger to this nation and other western democracies around the world and a lot of people are oblivious to the consequences of Trumps choices.
If a shitstorm comes to pass which is very likely then I would like to see countries hit USA and Russia where it hurts, in their greasy deep pockets. A global boycott of goods from these countries by the consumer, protesters outside fast food restaurants and movie theaters. A sanctioning of imported goods from US/Russian companies and a vigorous audit of each one that does business on their soil.
This will never happen off course but if it did you can guarantee Putin would do everything in his power to dump trump so he can continues amassing his countries wealth in his own bank account.

Trump's new US envoy to Israel seeks Jerusalem base - BBC News

US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen lawyer David Friedman to serve as America's ambassador to Israel.

The 57-year-old advised Mr Trump on US-Israel issues during the campaign.

A statement by Mr Trump's transition team said Mr Friedman's "strong relationships in Israel will form the foundation of his diplomatic mission".

Mr Friedman said he looked forward to working "from the US Embassy in Israel's eternal capital, Jerusalem", a move that will anger the Palestinians.

The status of Jerusalem is one of the most contentious issues between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and considers the entire city its indivisible capital; Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

The United Nations does not recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and the US embassy has been located in Tel Aviv for decades.

But Mr Trump had promised during the presidential campaign to move it to Jerusalem, one of several overtures he made to Israel.

J Street, a liberal pro-Israel group based in Washington, said it was "vehemently" opposed to the nomination of Mr Friedman.

"As someone who has been a leading American friend of the settlement movement, who lacks any diplomatic or policy credentials and who has attacked liberal Jews who support two states as 'worse than kapos', Friedman should be beyond the pale for senators considering who should represent the United States in Israel."

Kapos were Jewish prisoners in Nazi camps in World War II who the SS put in charge of other inmates. They have been viewed by some as complicit in the brutal treatment of other prisoners.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has not enjoyed warm relations with Democratic President Barack Obama, has welcomed Mr Trump's election.

Ffs!

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel so let's hope Trump doesn't break his promise as have many other previous President-elects on this issue. The era of Arab arse licking is well and truly over.

And before you jump in with the usual 'occupation' bullshit, it was Jordan who while itself was illegally occupying east Jerusalem before it attacked Israel in 67, turned Jewish headstones into pavements.

No point responding to such an inflammatory comment, there's enough of that in the Israel/Palestine thread and no doubt it will continue in the foreign policy thread too.

Then why did you respond?

I could have let it go but playing the Israel card against Trump shows just how out of touch the majority of the posters are. The pre-election threads were laughable which is why I kept out of them. Speaking as a blood drinking Zionist, it's been a wonderful year watching the left-wing getting a way overdue global pummelling.

Make Manchester United great again.

By Israeli standards, Donald Trump’s designated Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, is an extreme right-winger. He might find a place in the settler movement or with Naftali Bennett’s Habayit Hayehudi Party, but only on its right-wing fringes. He makes Benjamin Netanyahu seem like a left-wing defeatist. From where Friedman stands, most Israelis, never mind most American Jews, are more or less traitors.
...
Friedman’s appointment would seem to confirm Bennett’s initial jubilation following Trump’s election: This is not an ambassador that a rational U.S. administration would send if it had any plans whatsoever to advance the peace process. This is an ambassador who will please Evangelicals, delight Jewish settlers and bring pleasure to Land of Israel zealots far and wide. In many ways, Friedman will seem like a turbo-charged Ron Dermer, courting the extreme right in his host country while shunning all the rest.
...
One thing’s for sure: Just like he did on his way to the White House, Trump has no intention of playing by the rules. He is breaking the mold. Whether intentionally or out of sheer meshugas, Trump is indicating that he pays no attention to customs and precedents, and that he is likely to surprise the world each and every day of his tenure. If you like excitement in life, stay tuned. If you think this is no way to run a nuclear superpower in such a dangerous age, Friedman’s appointment provides no comfort. Stay worried.

https://thinkprogress.org/north-carolina-gop-power-election-years-1a10437c8f8b#.ueav76why

A party which has proved for the 100000000th time, it understands what the word ruthless means.

The Republican leaders of the North Carolina legislature called an emergency special session this week ostensibly to send funding to parts of the state devastated by Hurricane Matthew. Yet they used the opportunity to rush through a series of bills designed to limit the power of incoming Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, who unseated Republican Pat McCrory by a narrow margin in November.

A still more controversial bill, which passed the State Senate Thursday night and goes before the House on Friday, could remake the state Board of Elections and all county elections boards so that Republicans control them in all even-numbered years — meaning every year there’s a major election.

Progressive groups like Democracy North Carolina hope the bills won’t make it that far. They are encouraging people to flood the governor’s office with demands that he issue vetoes.

“Republicans have a super-majority [in the legislature], and Democrats are at a loss as to what to do to push back, so it’s coming down to ordinary people,” Jones said. “This provides a blueprint for what resistance in 2017 could look like across the country.”

Wtf is wrong with these people? And when they get called out on their fcukery, they start whining and go full victim...

Something needs to be done. An innocent person is going to die sooner or later because of that scumbag's divisive campaign.

It is disgusting. I think Hillary was right about one thing, some of those people are deplorable.

All this must be confusing for those in the Moron-Elects cabinet or for many of his supporters, on one side you have some serious right wing loons, Anti Semite's and pure racists, then on the other you have some Zionists. You have some pro Russia, some against, and then in the supporters you have many serious loons of all factions from the KKK to the hardline Evangelicals. The one thing for certain is it isn't going to be pretty. But all the while people are laughing and slamming the left or liberals, when all they have been fighting for is equality for everyone from fair pay for women and immigrants to free healthcare and education, rights for same sex couples and members of the transgender community, a cleaner environment for everyone and yet we are the ones being slammed for wanting those things when really to argue against any of it is immoral and severely fecked up. The hate, arrogance and pure aggression coming from the right gloating about policies that will ensure many millions of people will suffer is just disgusting in my opinion. I'd say it would be shameful, but it's clear none have a sense of shame or a conscience for it to effect.

Well done to the moron-elect.

Trump was stupid to so openly talk about trashing the One China policy but on the other hand does what he said really give China the excuse to start doing thing like this? Yeah he deserves to be criticized for his comments and actions, but then it does not give China the right to start going all ape shit. WTF is wrong with people who lead countries all over the world? Seems like they are always a bunch of dipshits saying stupid things, taking stupid actions, over reacting to things , going to war over false pretenses, etc. It's nothing new, been going on for centuries, but still.

Just to clarify, I am being critical of BOTH Trump and China. Not painting one nation as some evil, but criticizing the actions of BOTH.

Well said. No arguments here. However, your country has had one of the best leaders I have known in my lifetime. 8 years of sanity, relative peace and someone looking to resolve issues with talk and an olive branch rather than a gun or a bomb. He will seriously be missed by billions of people around the world. Fair enough he wasn't perfect, but he's been a breath of fresh air after the calamity of Bush and Cheney.

Well done to the moron-elect.

"Hillary is hawkish", "she'll be a disaster for international relations".

He's not even president yet and he's fracturing already delicate relations. The next four years are going to be tense times.

What I literally cannot stomach at the moment, is the hypocrisy and double standards that are already out in full force. The moron elect has already upset China, Europe, the UK and Palestine and has said the President of the Philippines' is doing a "good job" yup, the man who has slaughtered thousands and has come out and said "I love personally killing people" he is doing a good job. FFS, you couldn't make it up. Imagine if Obama had said that? What next? Is he going to phone North Korea and tell Kim that he has a beautiful haircut and he admires how he controls his people?

Also the hypocrisy, rewind the clock to Obama and the EU referendum and the shit he got for saying the UK should stay in, yet the Moron Elect is ok saying they should have left (and getting it wrong about Scotland)

Typical right wing aggression from people who want nothing more than victory over someone they hold a grudge against. Forget the inclusion and togetherness from the left and centre, the right is all about exclusion and crushing others who disagree.

@Raoul

Here's a perfect Twitter reply. Enjoy :)

All these posts are fascinating read, although I have given up posting in this thread. I maybe wrong about this, but there seems to be a faction within the Dems who are gloating mildly that all this is due to Hillary Clinton's nomination. I'd only sympathize with them, because the new administration will have a Energy department lead who wants to gut it, an EPA lead who wants to gut it, an Education secretary who wants to gut the common core and First time senators like Zinke who believe in coal, Rex Tillerson from Exxon, John Bolton and Israeli ambassador who is considered right wing to Netanyahu himself. It probably is not the time for 'I told you so', because you knew it was a two party system going into election and one party winning sets on agenda that is not agreeable to them. I personally think the election was lost because of one party's voters voting pragmatically and in one block for the Republican on the ticket and other party not bothering to turn up for their candidate. There's irony in that because Evangelical Christians and conservatives are the ones that were thought not to vote pragmatically and go for their ideal candidate.

Whatever maybe, elections are done and there's no point in going over who did what to get Trump elected. Electoral College has always rubber stamped the people's wishes and they vote next Monday. What is done is done. As an immigrant from India thinking about applying for Green Card living in blue state (CT/IL), this may not affect me greatly. I'll be interested in seeing what kind of approach Dems adopt in the coming years. Will it be all out obstructionism that worked for the Republicans or would they make deals with President elect? Post away, it's a pleasure to read all opinions.

It was always wiser to give a narcissistic manchild without self-control access to all the doomsday buttons.

Well they can't obstruct anything really. Republicans hold all the cards.

I feel like it's less 'gloating', and more just pointing out some valid criticisms. Whether Sanders would've beaten Trump or not is another matter (there are strong reasons for and against), but it's completely valid to argue that Clinton wasn't the right choice when she was someone perceived as representing the 'establishment' many voters were unhappy with, and when she was someone in the midst of a scandal that was admittedly overblown...but still firmly in the minds of voters.

I don't think the Dems should react too quickly in regards to 2020...I'd like to see someone in the mould of Sanders, in regards to at least having a sort of outsider with passion even if it's necessarily not someone perceived as a socialist, but Hilary still won the popular vote comfortably...the focus has to be on finding someone who will manage to swing the numerous key states Hilary only just lost. This is where I think Sanders would've done well, but at the rate politics is moving it'll be a very different game in 2020 no doubt.

You get the impression the agencies have found some damning new evidence in the past week or so.

FBI did not agree with the CIA claim a week ago.

Wikileaks, FBI, CIA, Russia, how is this not a joke?

And he still hasn't even released his tax returns.
