Don't really know where else is relevant to mention this but just catching up on some YouTube stuff and seeing Michael Moore on Colbert, Christ he's looking old.

Anyone else think Colbert looked really uncomfortable when Moore was talking/venting?

Practicing isolationist protectionism in a globalized economy. What could possibly go wrong?

He'll keep tinkering with this stuff as long as the market is still in decent shape. If however the market tanks, he will find it hard to keep up with the tarrifs due to the political blowback, especially in an election year.

Thing is, history tells us the market will tank. It’s just a matter of time.

If the last few years are anything to go by, the market will tank right after the dems win some part of government, and Trump will blame them, despite them not even being sworn in yet.

Just like he won't win the nomination, he won't win the election and he'll pivot once he gets in?

Two unrelated issues. A better comparison would be his capitulation on child separations last week. He cares about his poll numbers since they are the only thing keeping him afloat with his base at the moment. If economic problems related to his tariffs begin to hit his base and he sees his popularity threatened then he will act accordingly.

But there was no capitulation on child separation. He signed an exexexecu order that doesn't take any concrete steps to prevent it. Trump admin often does this and we all lap it ip

It certainly didn't fix things but it did take a bit of heat off him. That heat will come back as people figure out that the policy won't change unless there's a change in Congress that can then pressure Trump from there.

Still surprised the republican party isn't fighting him harder on his anti-free-trade-stance. I mean for decades they preached that such thinking was socialist bullshit and now they just let it slide apart from a few republicans protesting it. Also fiscal responsibility again be damned they will only start whining about it again as soon as a democrat is holding the office.

Isn't it "just" a case of him not actually knowing what the European Union is? I wouldn't be surprised to be honest.

Think it's probably this. He probably thinks the EU is the full name of Europe or something.

I can't believe he did not know at some point in the past.
He has dementia.

Christ! He is unbelievable.
Ladies and gentlemen, the 'journalists' at Fox News. President says his dad was born outside the country, when everyone knows he's from the Bronx. What do you do as a reporter for Fox News? Nothing. The answer is you do nothing. Lap up whatever he tells you.

An alternate view from a recent survey. Only one view, but sort of highlights that not everyone is having a meltdown.

Fascinating. Makes me wonder how the economy is really doing. Markets basically haven't moved this year, despite enormous tax breaks. Unemployment is low but was low when he took over.

Then again when his top economic adviser thinks the deficit is falling (it's not) maybe it's tough to know what numbers are true.

When the economy tanks (as all economies do) the US will not have the tools to make proper adjustments. He's already cut taxes, interest rates are still very low. The tariffs haven't also been transitioned into the economy.
If anything happens, it won't be his problem. The economy is growing as much as I think is possible and the deficit is still increasing.

Yet the IRS are receiving record levels of tax receipts after tax cuts. There is also talk of another tax cut before mid terms.

The report was more interesting in terms of the border issues and ICE. Overall, people do want immigration reform, so those politicians (left and right) not willing to contribute are really not listening to the people they represent.

Just a bunch of ass-licker.

It is, it was a clear dig at Trump. Our president is very cult and intelligent, and also a bit of a populist, he clearly wanted to mock Trump as he knows that would be very well received here. Did you see the handshake when they first met? He went out of his way to surpass Macron.

Surely they are trolling at this point?
