There's a theoretical war In space with satellite sabotage and a host of other things. He wants an arm of the military to deal with military threats that can happen in and via space. America actually has one of the weirdest immigration laws around, wouldnt say laughed at but its not like any joe bloggs can walk into the country and get a Green Card, wish it was that easy.
I do kind of like the message going out that illegally crossing the border is no longer easy and may be at personal cost. But many of these folks feel they have no option and are prepared to risk it. A system needs to be in place to track them and their kids.

I think the end goal of this "space force" stuff is to defund the civilian scientists at NASA who study things like climate change and begin shifting all the NASA money to military control.
Well yes there hasn't been a "world war" but christ its been conflict after conflict, many wars, brutal dictatorships, mass humanitary crisis', millions of lives lost, a freighting cold War just to name a few.

How does 1945-2018 compare with 1815-1914?
Spare a few notable conflicts (ie Taiping rebellion, the US civil war, Crimean wars etc) 1815-1914 was relatively stable from a historical context. The post WW2 order has been even more stable with deaths near an all time low relative to global population. We are currently near an all time low.
