The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Should be a fun meeting tomorrow. Trump attempting to score points with his base by starting trade wars with allies and then having to face each ally at the G7.

I don't think it'll upset him. What people are reluctant to recognize about Trump is that he's spent his life making deals. He may not know much about diplomatic niceties, but once he's sitting across a table from a business adversary, he's in his wheelhouse. I suspect that's the model he's imposing on America's international relations. Tough talking, hard bargaining, eventually everybody signs on the dotted line and they go home happy.

I hope he doesn't file for American bankruptcies multiple times to get the deals he wants though. Although Trump grabbing Merkel by the pussy after a deal is struck maybe something worth watching.

Maybe daddy can bail him out again, a small loan of a million dollars, followed by few more for tens of millions should cover it.

Don’t know much about his business career in detail, but I watched the four-part Channel 4 documentary on him the other night. It may be biased to some degree, I don’t know, but the general portrayal of Trump as a deal-maker and businessman is not particularly flattering, especially for someone who has built his entire public image on it.

By all means, he’s not a very good deal maker. He’s just a bully who threatens people smaller than him with crippling legal fees if they don’t accept the weak offer he makes after they’ve done the work.

1. That’s not a great negotiator, that’s a gangster.
2. That doesn’t work in politics, especially when there’s a lot of dicks swinging about much bigger than he thinks his is.

he's the president of the united states and even the "concerned" republicans are voting for what he wants 95% of the time

I’m talking international politics. He’s in charge of the most powerful nation on earth but he’s constantly upstaged and outsmarted by pretty much every other leader he does business with.

He’s hasn’t cut a single deal internationally that is beneficial to America yet, he’s made decisions that have been destructive to other nations and the response to that so far has been an equally damaging response.

that 35 percent are basically the republicans. So trump is basically playing to his base which is why he wont let this go even if in his own mind he knows its ridiculous. He really is winning on this.

How is that winning? He needs to keep a lot more than 35% happy to be considered “winning”

I think you're precisely right. He is playing to the base because he sees this as a winning cultural issue for him. The owners are towing the line on the standing issue because they see it as an economic issue where conservatives may switch off if the players are constantly kneeling (or staying in the locker rooms), although the polling seems to contest that a bit.

Other leaders not being dumb as a rock doesn't change the size of their respective political dicks.

My mistake. But the country, constitution and flag are not separate things. If someone tramples on the flag, they're not disrespecting a piece of cloth. Their action is directed at what that flag stands for, which both they, and those who disagree with them, fully understand.

The US was founded on values such as freedom of expression, it’s even in the constitution and part of the DNA of the country. These NFL players are proud Americans protesting against injustice and social inequality.
But obviously people don’t see it that way. They are more offended by the protests than they are about the injustices in the society of their great country.

I don't know what his current wealth is, but at one time it was accessed at $8bn. All made in the cut-throat world of real estate. So he can't be inept.

In any case, all I'm saying is that he sees the world as a businessman. He probably agrees with Henry Ford that 'history is bunk.' He's not sentimental or concerned about the past. It's not a question of 'what have you done for me lately?' but 'what will you do for me tomorrow?'

The leaders of other countries are seen as the CEOs of rival businesses. He probably doesn't make a great distinction between Mrs Merkel and President Xi. The question is the same in both cases: 'can I make a deal with this man/woman which benefits me?' And his main yardstick is money. It's probably difficult for him to see Europeans, whom he perceives as financial parasites, as his 'friends'.

He needs to keep his base the happiest. As the dems have found out at least twice the presidency isn't won by popular vote. Keeping the Republicans and more broadly the Conservatives happy is what will keep him from being impeached first and help him to run in 2020. From the outside looking in it may seem terrible to you but for the republicans that look past his behaviour and don't tune into CNN or BBC he's been a wet dream come true. Once he keeps on feeding his base and the economy doesn't tank he's in good standing

So yeah.. He's winning

Simply not a true description of his deal making ‘qualities.’ His acquiescence when making deals as well as flat out poor results shoot holes in the ‘master deal maker’ myth.

I've kept out of this so far because you really are just making a tit out of yourself. I'm inclined to think you are just on the wum and this last post proves it.

Trump has made his career out of being a fecking charlatan and a conman and a vicious, nasty piece of work. He has just cashed in on the celebrity fame bullshit and used his name in recent years.

There is no art of the deal. Just Trump gets what he wants no matter how or who he has to walk over to get it. He will lie, cheat, steal and not care a damn because In his eyes, not only does he deserve it for being Donald Trump, he deserves it because he says or thinks he does. Worse still, if he doesn't get it he will just blame someone else or pretend he didn't really want it in the first place. He's a fecking clown.

He has treated his Presidency in exactly the way many of us predicted and he's just using it to siphon off billions to his family and possibly trillions to his mates.

It could possibly be the greatest con job ever seen, however, it's infuriating because so many can see right through every single thing he does.

I feel sorry for you Will. I thought you were smarter than this. Clearly, you are not.

Well, you're misreading my post.

I haven't studied Trump's career and have no knowledge of his deal-making. But good or bad, he is a deal-maker. That's the perspective he brings to his presidency.

But as I said in another post, he's survived half a century in the shark infested waters of American real estate, and retained all his body parts (apart from his hair), so he must be doing something right. Being the centerpiece of a successful TV show and winning against all odds the Presidency of the United States are not inconsiderable accomplishments either.

None of it makes him a genius, but if he's the buffoon his opponents label him, he must be the luckiest fool in the history of Christendom.

Apart from the multiple bankruptcies, and huge loans he was unable to repay, leading to being cut off by all the major lenders.

Trump succeeded in one thing in business, he realized that he could leverage his decades of self-promotion into a profitable business selling the Trump name. That was his one success after many years of making a total mess of property development.

It might work on pure business model, but with eu there are added factors of national pride and setting the precedence. You dont allow any country to talk shit on public and step on your head. At this rate its personal.

If trump pull his cowboy boots behind the closed door it's another story.
