The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

I don't think it'll upset him. What people are reluctant to recognize about Trump is that he's spent his life making deals. He may not know much about diplomatic niceties, but once he's sitting across a table from a business adversary, he's in his wheelhouse. I suspect that's the model he's imposing on America's international relations. Tough talking, hard bargaining, eventually everybody signs on the dotted line and they go home happy.

Works well in Russia.

I'm guessing part of the reason for Canadian tariffs on dairy is because of massive US govt subsidies to dairy and agriculture in general? (Not that the EU or Canada subsidise their agribusiness any less).

Wasn’t Ali a draft dodger (for ethical reasons rather than just a cowardice spoiled child) too and that’s what he’ll be pardoned for?

To me that sounds like another dog-whistle.

It's unambiguously a good thing and a shame that no-one in the intervening decades deigned to do it.

China's the 2nd largest economy in the world and yet it isnt there. Russia is a medium-sized economy similar to Italy.
Indeed. Russia's economy is smaller than the economy of each of the following three states: California, Texas and New York.

A big question is whether Trump fully understands the difference between business relationships, where cash is the only currency, and the more multifaceted relations between nation states. At least he won't make the mistake of his predecessor and think making eloquent speeches is what it's all about.

Its a fantastic thing and it’s definitely a shame that Ali didn’t have the chance to accept it.

I’m commenting on the motive behind the pardon though. If my history is right (it might not be), Ali converted to Islam and declared himself a pacifist and that’s why he refused to go to war for America.

Does that sound like something Trump would pardon in normal circumstances? Had he not draft dodged himself, he’d be calling him a cowardice Muslim who had no respect for America. Instead, he’s pardoning him - in my opinion - with the intention of trivialising the accusation of draft dodging.

He just commuted a particularly stupid drug sentence and pardoned another (dead) boxer whose conviction was for violating a racist law. He's also been issuing celebrity pardons left right and centre.
I guess you can explain this spree in many ways.

Somehow people always get the order of that wrong. He first said he was too important to go to Vietnam. Then he converted and developed religious objections.:smirk:

And the big answer is he doesnt, otherwise he wouldnt be asking for "loyalty, absolute loyalty" from his FBI director, wouldnt go on twitter war endlessly, wouldnt threaten multiple businesses as the president of the United States.

And yeah, you're right, all his predecessor ever thought or did was making eloquent speeches because that was all it was about.

Jaysus! They'll have to gag some of these people. Why would a high-ranking official say something like that a few days before a summit?
Because the guy is crazy. This is not the first time he has opened his mouth without engaging his brain. How many comments on the case he is supposed to be involved with have the White House had to walk back?

It shouldn't be the sort of thing you have in place when you have a Free Trade agreement.
It should when dealing with dairy produced with hormones and antibiotics, some of which are banned in other countries. The FDA allows a lot of dodgy shit to go on in the food industry here and it doesn't surprise me in the least that other countries put high tariffs on this crap.
My palate has taken a sugar beating since moving here. I had some Heinze baked beans last month after eating Bush's for years and was shocked, they are basically the same product but worlds apart. Beans on toast taste like a sherbert dip to the uninitiated.

That site seems to be behind a paywall. But doing a little research, Forbes estimated Trump's wealth at $3.5bn when he took office. I do remember reading many years ago, when I barely knew who he was, that he was worth $8bn

I have serious doubts about all this latter day revisionism. I suspect Trump would be allowed to be a billionaire in peace if he was a Democratic president. But for a man who has a gold-plated lavatory, exaggerating his wealth would hardly be out of character.
feck sake man do some reading and listen to testimony from people who know more about this guy then you or the average trump supporter.
Forbes have admitted to being strong armed in to inflating his wealth. He is the owner of a brand that provides management services to any property willing to put his family name above the door with a healthy dose of money laundering thrown in.
His golf course's barely break even and the value he places on them are no where near the value stated on the business's county tax forms.
He owns very small percentages of trump properties and has never been in the top 12 of real estate developers in Manhatten.
Will, do you know about Roy Cohn, the idiotic decisions made in AC NJ, the multiple failed ventures outside of property or the free tax payer money given to him to purchase the first couple of Manhattan addresses.
It sounds to me that you are criminally uninformed about a guy you defend and are just another member of the cult of personality.
Also, the Apprentice was no where near top of the ratings and only the trump family falsely stated that fact. When Billy Bush pressed him on it on and off camera trump said "you just have to say it and they will believe it", he is talking about people like you Will.

An organized crime syndicate masquerading as a country. Its shameful that the WC will be held here, it's taken all the excitement away from me until an actual ball is kicked.

feck Off Will. Obama is more respected around the world then nearly any American past or present. Those eloquent speeches are what inspires future leaders. You seem like an Andrew Jackson kind of guy more than a Lincoln.

Then that's sanitary, which you can make regulations for and actually entirely prohibit product that's non-compliant with your standards. It would incentivize those US producers that want to sell into the Canadian market to comply with the standards. A 270% tariff across the board is the wrong tool if that is the concern.

Plus, it should also be left to a consumer decision when possible. Let 'better' milk producers on any side of the border brand and message their product accordingly, and the consumer makes his decision of what brand he prefers. The government should be in the business of insuring food is safe, not that it is good.

Will Absolutely believe anything Trump says.

You seriously thinking shoving a nation leader on international summit and swingging his dick against EU is a good negotiation?

Even though I think it's very hard to dismiss the importance of eloquence and image in general for a world leader. The most important thing Trump lacks is integrity. Trump is a liar. He lies constantly, advertises lies and conspiracy theories, he spreaks unsubstantiated rumours about people who are negative about him, the list is endless. This isn't my opinion it's a completely objective fact. That alone makes him completely unfit for any form of government, let alone the US presidency.

Besides being a liar, Trump is completely incoherent in what he claims to believe. On Monday he tells the world he wants to give drug dealers the death penalty and on Tuesday he pardon's a drug trafficker. On Wednesday he says he will fight the NRA and on Thursday he pledges his support for the 2nd amendment and the right to bear assault rifles, grenades and bazooka's at a cheering NRA rally. I have no idea what Trumps actual stance on anything is and honestly I think he doesn't give a feck about governing the country. It's just a big reality tv show to him. It's baffling and horrifying that the United States actually elected this ridiculous moron into office and it's even more baffling and horrifying that people still actually defend him through the daily crock of shite he spews into the world through his Twitter account.

I can write a book full of reasons why Obama is a gazillion times better than Trump in any way imaginable, but how are words even needed for that. Watching him speak, watching him tweet, watching him do anything, how can anyone with a functioning brain think this man is fit to be the leader of the free world. I wouldn't trust him to clean my fecking toilet, let alone run the most powerful country in the world.

Seeing as you are rather eloquent yourself I highly suspect you to be on the WUM, but if not, what the feck is wrong with you?

The problem is that the entire media have been so viciously hostile to Trump since his election that nothing they say can be taken at face value. You know that only half or three quarters of a story will be told in a way that shows him in the worst possible light. That's not paranoia. The joke of a few months back is literally true: "If Trump walked across the Hudson, the headline in the New York Times would be: "Trump can't swim!"

Obviously Trump is a person of highly questionable character. But a media whose obsession is to bring him down by whatever means possible have given themselves a credibility problem.

How is this any different than the birther movement and other ridiculous fecking shite Obama had to deal with during his presidency?

Fox news is by far the biggest media outlet in the US (Trump loves repeating this) and they're not exactly critical of Donny are they?

If you're honest, do you honestly think The New York Times (which is objectively not failing by the way) is more disingenuous than Fox? Or forget Fox do you think the NYT is more disingenuous than Donalds Twitter account?

Trump floats pardon for Muhammad Ali even though boxing great doesn't need one
President says he’s ‘thinking about that very seriously’, seemingly unaware that Supreme Court overturned Ali’s conviction in 1971

MSNBC pointed out that the great Muhammed Ali does not need a pardon.Who's going to break it to the orange clown.
