I hope Unions continue to be decimated in this country.

As we all know businesses are benevolent entities and without any prompting, owners hand out benefits. We also know once we get rid of unions and regulations - wages will increase

if trump appoints romney I would be quite disappointed as a neutral who didn't fancy trump but still decided to give him a chance.

I get it, people here don't like trump and it's hard to take him too seriously, but he IS the president-elect so there's no option, is there? (I would've said the same if hillary got in, except people here seem to actually like her...)

trump supporters would certainly feel betrayed big time, as romney is a neocon who embodies the political establishment that trump rallied against throughout the campaign.
Hillary is basically the safest bet for US president who ever ran for the position (in terms of not screwing the world up).

Trump is basically the exact opposite.

Her and Putin utterly detest each other. She has made countless errors of judgement, in her own words!

Tell me more how she is a 'safe pair of hands!'

So much hyperbole in this thread

zzzzzzz
This!

Always the same:

'Oh Modi is gonna burn all the muslims when he's PM'
'The Tories are gonna throw out all immigrants now that they are in power'
'Obama is now gonna change the world and bring world peace and stability, quick...get him the Nobel Peace prize'
Etc etc

Name me a US president who got on well with any Russian leader except Gorbachev in the last decades?

I'd much rather someone who admits to her mistakes than someone who proclaims to having the best temperament, best words, best of everything.

Well Putin is a nationalist pragmatist and seems Trump is in the same mould. Think they'd get on ok - and even if they don't, it'll be a 'frank' relationship (to say the least!)
Even Modi, Xi, May etc all seem to be pretty strong fairly undiplomatic characters in their own right. I don't see a problem tbh

That is exactly what they are doing.

Turning around the economy and leaving Trump a growing economy is his legacy

Hahaha....we aren't in a recession...we still have an auto industry....hahaha
Err I thought it was a global recession and literally every other nation has come out of it (sometimes with a differing strategy), bit much to attribute it to Obama! Failing would've been harder.

That is exactly what they are doing.

Wow that article is long (and on The Guardian at that! Heh).

So the Govt has randomly deported legal ppl based on nothing?!

Was it their skin colour or race or something? Can't be true (and am amazed this is the first I am hearing of it), surely worthy to bring down a Govt!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why discussing politics online is a complete waste of everyone's time (and I hate myself for getting sucked into it) Concrete evidence provided in response to a question is sneered at because it's "long" and not published in the 'right' newspaper. Be honest, none of you cnuts have any interest in understanding differing opinions or learning anything which might leave you better informed. It's all just back and forth point scoring with zero intention of ever changing your preconceived notions. This is what happens when people learn about the world exclusively through online echo chambers. Depressing as hell.

Among those rounded up to be removed are a former soldier who served in the British army, a father of three who arrived in the UK aged four, and one who had arrived to sign in with his baby in a pushchair. While detaining him, the Home Office called social services to take his baby.
Insane.

Or you're using a small isolated case within a biased publication to discuss as a pandemic issue and a sweeping statement ie The Conservatives are forcing immigrants back home - not sure who is more in the wrong!

Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies and more Lies.

I cant see who you are replying to (thankfully) but I can guess because my ignore list isn't that long. Do yourself a favour and ignore him. He's a wind up, arrogant and exceedingly smug, only likes to ague and wind people up, never to actually involve himself in discussion.

What's the betting he twists this reply round on you, makes you out to be in the wrong and also says The Guardian is biased. He's more transparent that the giant moron elect he continuously defends.

You are.

You clearly also missed the new rules to deport people who earn less than £35k a year. Which includes such low skilled professions as classical musicians.

Adding to an ignore list!
Look I try and be objective and am calm by nature by to be honest the smugness by people that disagree (basically see the entire US presidential thread) makes me fight fire with fire.

I personally couldn't care less which is why some of my posts/discussion points may seem half-hearted, however I love to listen to the other side (whether at work, play, or on matter like this).

Ignoring is exactly the reason for the collapse of that side of the argument: head in sand, fingers in ears and screaming only listening to like minded people. Shame.

Huh these are rules for new migrants! Every country in the world has them. Even 'the most liberal friendly country ever' Canada! I don't get it.

They're not rules for new migrants, they also apply to existing migrants. Including the wives/husbands/partners of British citizens who can be ejected unless their joint earnings are £35k.

Really? That is fecking insane... if true.

As posters go, you are firmly bottom of the barrel... He's ignored you for good reason, why are you so surprised? Are you that oblivious to how you come across? I thought you were a wum and I still do...

This is not an attack, just an observation.

False - but fair enough.
Apologies if I come across brash mate! :)

I actually agree with most of what that article says tbh

I don't think that's the problem with Trump. But I was just pointing out that Hillary wouldn't exactly have started WWIII no matter how much she and Putin hate each other.

I can understand the cosying up to Russia - Asia is the next 'battleground' - be it financially or in terms of geo political influence. So it makes sense that the anti Chinese rhetoric is going to be more and more out in the open.

Always fascinates me people who think Clinton would have started WWIII because she disliked Putin. As much as she dislikes him, it wouldn't be in her best interest to go to war with him and she'd do her best to avoid that.

Exactly, I'm sure Xi and Abe hate each other, but most leaders in their right minds avoid war.

I'm not convinced the moron elect is in his right mind.

What do people imagine, when they talk about WWIII? I assume not all out war, including the most destructive nuclear weapons available? Because I can't imagine we'd really let Donald Trump initiate that one, just because of our fetish for democracy.

Agreed completely and therefore am also surprised why people think Trump would 'start WW3'
Not a greater likelihood compared to other leaders (unless his crusade vs China gets very out of hand)
