The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

He really does follow the populist demagogue handbook to the letter.

To be honest, that 1 Tril has been spent over 15 or so years. The JSF program is now too big to fail.

Yeah, I know, very similar to the agreement the UK had over the Euro-Fighter, however, from my understanding the F-35 is becoming a failure because it's well over budget, full of flaws and the test pilots don't actually like the plane either.

Now he's going after one of the largest exporting companies in the country? :wenger:

Yup. Think about how much money Air-Force One actually earns the country. It's one of the biggest and most popular symbols of the USA and the Presidency, it's pretty close to the Queens Crown Jewels I should think.

How much does Air Force One earn the US and how does it do that?

If the stealth actually works it probably makes up for many of the issues, from my 90s air combat sims understanding of the topic. (Don't hate, its more than Trump understands)

And what is his angle with Boeing, just shave a a bit off of the contract? What is the point? Why has this come up now?

It's a figure of speech, it's what it symbolises and the recognition factor, not to mention it's imperative for the President and his work schedule over such a huge country, let alone the world. However, the President Elect probably thinks his own plane is superior hence why he's ok with cancelling the order.

Oh I agree completely, it's an amazing machine, and I have no doubt it will be the best of its kind when finished.

He doesn't want to fly around in a plane that says "United States of America", that's not his brand.

And well, we all know Donald knows the most about the stealth, the nuclear, the cyber... he'll get the F-35 sorted himself.

I think Air Force One is actually one of Trump's favourite films.

Maybe the first indications are the plane is far from what was expected. But by "too big to fail" I meant that no one in their right mind will cancel the program now.

Yeah, I got that, and as I said it's an amazing machine and I agree it won't fail. It's just gone well over budget and has soo many bugs at the moment. Obviously, they are to be expected, but still, it's an expensive headache at the moment, and him backing something like this, yet panning Air Force One, is exactly the type of stick that will be used to beat him with throughout his Presidency. He needs to learn to shut the feck up.

It won't ever be, it's not even designed to be.

Photoshop awaits....

Trump's 757 is a pretty sweet plane. I saw a documentary about it, changed my opinion of what the guy might accomplish in office. He demands the best, hopefully he demands the best for America, too.

And people will try to tell me Trump supporters aren't inherently stupid.

This bit hits the nail on the head. My family are full on God-fearing GOP supporters and will constantly post/send nonsense news bites. I've noticed quite a few of my GOP/conservative supporting friends/colleagues will do the same yet my DNC/liberal friends rarely post such nonsense, though a few do mostly the BernieBros.

There’s a reason these websites have a partisan, pro-Trump bent: At least in the 2016 election cycle, fake news took off much more with conservatives than with liberals. Laura Sydell reported at NPR the experience of one fake news purveyor, 40-year-old Jestin Coler in California:

During the run-up to the presidential election, fake news really took off. "It was just anybody with a blog can get on there and find a big, huge Facebook group of kind of rabid Trump supporters just waiting to eat up this red meat that they're about to get served," Coler says. "It caused an explosion in the number of sites. I mean, my gosh, the number of just fake accounts on Facebook exploded during the Trump election."

Coler says his writers have tried to write fake news for liberals — but they just never take the bait.

Why is this the case? Coler suggested that it has to do with Trump and conservative media outlets discrediting mainstream news, pushing conservatives to look for other outlets for their information: “This is a right-wing issue. Sarah Palin's famous blasting of the lamestream media is kind of record and testament to the rise of these kinds of people. The post-fact era is what I would refer to it as. This isn't something that started with Trump. This is something that's been in the works for a while. His whole campaign was this thing of discrediting mainstream media sources, which is one of those dog whistles to his supporters.”---

I think that just about says it all really. For fecks sake. It's really, REALLY scary.
I think people underestimate how dangerous this is. The IDEA that someone can just make something up and mass people believe, is extremely worry. I remember a documentary about how the genocide in Rwanda happened. You hear on radio that your neighbour of ten years is a demon and you automatically believe.

This would be both West Wing levels of awesome and also shit scary in terms of repercussions

Something similar worked in my native country, Nigeria. But pigs fly back home, so there's no comparison.

It's effective populism, he's sacrificing his own plane to save the country money.

Yup. Although I'd go further and say pretending to sacrifice, he'll be 'told' it's too far along and would cost more to bin, so he'll just have to use it. All the while slating it, of course.

In fairness the plane won't come into service till what would be mid way through his second term... and that's assuming it all runs to its timetable (and military procurement rarely does)
So really what he is doing is saying the next president can't have a new plane

Ah yeah just saw the timeline, thought it was scheduled for some time this term for some reason.
