The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

I wonder how much the taxpayers have paid into Trump businesses to date, and what this trip will add to that.

His inarticulacy always gets me. Out of all the abhorrent things that he’s done, this is the thing that really makes me despair.

Listening to him speak in incoherent, muddled, nonsensical sentences really does destroy the soul. But the thing that really emphasises this, is when you read a transcript of one of his interviews. Jesus christ, what an absolute cluster.

It just tells you everything you need to know about the man. His impulsiveness, the impromptu actions that basically categorises his presidency so far. Just the complete lack of any substance - it’s depressing.

He’s completely unable to put one word after another in a coherent way - the words just dribble out of his mouth. The absolute mouth-breathing moron.
It is absolutely amazing that the president of the USA speaks English worse than someone like me who has it as his second language.

Despite the friction, Trump at other moments sought to sweet-talk Peña Nieto, telling him that “you and I will always be friends,” and that if they could resolve their disputes over the border and trade, “We will almost become the fathers of our country — almost, not quite, okay?”

I am surprised Griffin is still tweeting. Him and Jaffy have been in the spotlight recently, because of complaints that they both have been hijacking other reporters stories and are abusing internal information for personal gain.

Jaffy has taken a short Twitter break.

It's quite staggering that as a result of Trump's antics, news that the racist elf will remain top law enforcement official in the land is considered good.

Can I just ask... why the feck is it seen as a big deal for someone to say someone lied?

There shouldn't be an issue with calling people out for lying at all. However, the problem is the press are maintaining standards of respectability where they treat the President with respect and won't outright call him out on lying, whereas Trump has no respect whatsoever. The press are shit scared of going all out on Trump because they think it will backfire on them, and then they could be seen as the disrespectful bully. It's moronic really because they are clearly holding back, yet his supporters think he's getting a rough deal. Personally, I think he's getting away way too lightly with everything.

Excellent post.

Racist, misogynistic, sexist, homophobic tax dodging failed businessman who openly brags about committing sexual assault and makes fun of disabled people on stage. Definitely a better alternative to having the same family in power. You're right, no wonder they went for him.

Bwaaaahahahaaa! That proper made me chuckle, thanks mate.

Yep, people who voted for Trump are on drugs.

Unironically there's a huge opioid crisis in many ex-industrial areas of the US. Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan. IMO it is caused by a combination of job losses, pharma profiteering, and bad prescription practices. Many of these regions, which voted for Obama and were traditionally blue, went for Trump.

Depressing isn't it.

It's really not his English.
His mind drifts when talking. He can't focus long enough to keep his ideas on one particular subject together.
It's classic ADHD.
The problem is no one has ever told him it's an issue.

Interesting that you mention that.

I was reading this Guardian article which was posted by @Wednesday at Stoke about a Walmart closure in the poorest county in West Virginia (McDowell County).

The Guardian | What happened when Walmart left

This county had been staunchly Democrat in modern history with the Dems receiving vote share in the 60-70% range here over the decades. In 2012 that changed and they voted for Romney (They had last voted Republican in 1972). They then voted for Trump with 74% of the vote.

This change in voting habits is not new. Its happened way too many times recently in various counties in areas like Ohio and Pennsylvania, which were strong Democrat supporting areas and they've been neglected by the establishment of the party.

Surely part of mastering a language is being able to construct meaningful sentences (in real time, you might add)? What good is memorising the dictionary?

"Mr President I'm afraid to tell you that you have severe ADHD"

5 minutes later

"I'm the most HD president ever"

I don't know how to explain it.
I had severe ADHD as a child and was doing the same thing even though I had good grasp of the language.
When he talks, his mind drifts to another topic and he starts talking about that topic mid-sentence.
That's why he can talk about "Mr Elegant" mid-sentence when talking about his speech to the boys scout.
Although it can affect one's grasp of the language, that's not the core issue.
He literally can't think straight.

Small town USA has to realize the world has changed - this really isn't about Democrats or Republicans. Sure, the Republicans will say the right things to them...but, none of that is going to bring their town back. This isn't even unique to the US - I bet you could go to most developed nations in the west and hear the same stories in small town and rural areas.

I Know Schumer and Co are going to do the whole protectionist thing to try to get some people back on side...but it's doomed to fail.

You basically just put forward the Democratic argument that led to them losing the White House, Congress and Senate in the last 10 years. Perhaps its the party that needs to realize that telling the country how they should think isn't a great way to win elections?

I read that a few weeks ago when it was first posted and you're right, it really is an amazing article, well written and really strikes home what effect these stores have on small communities. It's crazy really, everyone shouts and bitches and moans about these megastores ruining town shopping centres, but then they don't look at the other side of it either, where the store literally becomes the heartbeat of the entire area.

@Adisa It seems like an early onset of dementia to me than ADHD. He was relatively focused and able to speak in full sentences in old interview about 10-15 years ago.

No, what led to them losing everything is for far too long they have indulged those people with lies that they'd be able to make it back to how it was before, and failing to do so, because it's unachievable. Then the Republicans and Trump respectively came along and said, 'You gave them votes and they gave you nothing. Give me your vote and I'll do what they cant'.

If the Democrats want to win and actually govern, they have to come clean with those people about the reality, and if the latter don't accept that vision, then they are doomed anyway. You can't keep yo-yoing people in and out of Congress in a 2 years cycle and expect anything to change.

So be it.

I'm not beholden to the Democratic Party - I voted for Hillary because I was never going to vote for Trump and I didn't want to waste my vote. The country can 'think' however it wants and feels - but those small towns have been dying for a long time and they aren't coming back.

The Greying of Rural America: https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/06/the-graying-of-rural-america/485159/

and to illustrate my point further - from 1999

The dying of the little towns - http://www.economist.com/node/239873

Politicians need to stop lying to these people and make them realize - THEY need to change, and that's not some flippant statement. I realize, it's hard...but, that's the reality.

@InfiniteBoredom Get out of my head

If that's the case, then you might be right.
I thought it was something he's always struggled with.

Can we please stop excusing Trump here? There should be no excuses made for him because there is no excuse for his behaviour or attitude and excuses give him wiggle room he shouldn't be allowed. ADHD, dementia, whatever. Yes, there might be some of that but the real truth is that the man is an egotistical bully, a narcissistic, arrogant, sexist, bigoted, xenophobic, misogynistic, dim-witted, moronic, pathological lying, thieving, conning, vengeful, exceedingly dumb, clueless clusterfeck of a cnut that is seriously out of his depth, only cares about himself and is generally not a very nice person at all.

Aside from all that though, he's actually alright.

Just look at how popular Sanders was with in those kind of areas.

Sanders proposed getting those living in areas that were reliant on industry jobs to be given training and skills to adjust to the jobs of the future such as in clean energy.

What a blazing track record in presidents the GOP can look back on...

Reagan (failed actor)
Daddy Bush (em...)
George W. Bush
Trump (reality TV turd)

Now, as is well known, policy goons and generals don't generally make for good Front Of House.

Better - they appear to have concluded - to put in place a vote getting idiot, who can be controlled, worked around, and who will function as a convenient distraction. But harvesting these types is really not so simple; they can go Palin; you might accidentally select someone with integrity; and there is the constant threat that they might be hijacked by a better manipulator or start to believe your propaganda.

The other thing that this presidency shows you is that there is no 'establishment' such as railed against by Haight Ashbury hippies a half century ago or by Trump himself. There is just a jumbled pyre of elections and appointments assembled tenously on the framework of state as grown from the aspirational outpourings of founding fathers. It's far more fecking random than anyone ever imagined.

Not making excuses for him or denying he's any of those things.
Even if he had ADHD, someone with that shouldn't be president.

Those to blame for ill winds that blow as a consequence of the election of Trump, are not primarily DT or his family, but those who facilitated this presidency out of self-interest; Paul Ryan, for example.
