The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

What's there to debate? They don't have support for their replacement bill. They don't have support for a repeal now replace later. What was the point?

They can debate various amendments that were added to the bill. The pitchfork brigade on Twitter going after McCain, who does have brain cancer, need to seriously chill out. Go after McDonnell or Cruz, who are actually responsible for advancing the bill.

I think the reason McCain gets so much flak is because...so often, he says the right things and sounds so damn reasonable - but then ends up disappointing people.

The other two you mentioned are, how do I put this delicately - reprehensible cnuts. So, people expect NOTHING from them.

The current theme right now among right wingers on FB is that trans people are "mentally ill" and that's why they shouldn't be allowed to serve.

While the belief that being trans = mental illness is bullshit, I'm anxiously waiting for them to push for the discharge of all servicemen and women with PTSD too.
They should perhaps address the mental illness of the commander in chief as well.

Dems are going to vote No anyway. They need to do this internally within GOP.

Let's see how today's vote goes...

In fairness I believe it's still on WHO's mental illness list. Denmark removed it from the list at the beginning of this year and I believe we were one of the first (if not the first) country to do so.

Not sure why McCain is getting all the stick he is. He voted on a procedure to advance the bill to full floor debate, not on the final bill itself.

Probably because it's another case of him criticising Trump but not actually doing anything about it.

They've done repeal and replace (failed last night), repeal only (just failed now).

Next they are going to try "skinny repeal" which eliminates various aspects of the ACA like the individual mandate and the tax on medical equipment makers.

If they remove the individual mandate the whole thing is going to become unsustainable so that's basically sabotage.

Yep. That's the idea. It would be the most calamitous of all options since it would dismantle the current law but not replace it with anything. Would be mass pandemonium.

Trump can go on twitter and claim "I told you so" and his mouth breathing supporters will join the chorus.

Did Huckabee-Saunders really read out Trump fan mail at the WH Press Conference? Oh wow, they will be demanding that every household has a picture of the Supreme Leader above the fireplace

Trump is just worried he'll find someone who is transgender attractive when he does one his dress up like a soldier days.

Yeh. He could go to grab him some pussy and end up with more than he bargained for

Why did McCain vote yes a few days ago and now no? What changed?

Is the vote for this "skinny" repeal tonight?

Edit - looks like the vote wont be today.

Yeah. But why bringt it up for debate if he's voting against it anyway?
Perhaps with his fading mental powers he thought the Republicans had a plan in place to put something better on the table. The first vote wasn't about the bill as it would have been massively different by the end anyway; it was just about getting a chance to argue until you got something passable.

So he was basically just giving them a chance to work something out, which they obviously didn't do. Sounds fair, actually.

Ah come off it. He's spineless. I'll never deny him his military career and POW status but the man most often toes the party line, and we've seen him cower to Trump and others over and over. The closing paragraph sums him up quite nicely.

When it comes to John McCain, some journalists will never, ever learn

--Maybe McCain will find a way to vote “no” on one of the health care bills that will apparently come before the Senate, while voting “yes” on other versions of the legislation. If that happens, his “base” in the media will surely grab ahold of that vote with both hands and declare the senator and themselves vindicated, regardless of how little sense that makes. But expecting McCain to be the deciding vote preventing Republican health care legislation would be foolhardy. He’s a run-of-the-mill Republican senator who can be counted on to fall in line. Indeed, he almost always has.--

Murkowski makes a good point there... she's not up for reelection until 2022.

Trump needs to remember (who am I kidding? LEARN) that only 1/3 of the Senate is up for grabs every 2 years, and a Senator's term is 2 years longer than his.

A president can easily bully the House, but the Senate... not so much
