This cover — dated March 1, 2009 — looks like an impressive memento from Trump’s pre-presidential career. To club members eating lunch, or golfers waiting for a pro-shop purchase, it seemed to be a signal that Trump had always been a man who mattered. Even when he was just a reality TV star, Trump was the kind of star who got a cover story in Time.

But that wasn’t true.

The Time cover is a fake.

There was no March 1, 2009, issue of Time magazine. And there was no issue at all in 2009 that had Trump on the cover.

The official Presidential photo that's hanging on the "chain of command" walls of government buildings throughout the country:

He apparently thinks this is a good picture of him . . .

I hate him, I really, REALLY do. His last half a dozen or so Tweets have all been promoting Fox News and Fox & friends, Eric the wanker Boling or Hannity, yet he has the fecking nerve to chat shit about FAKE NEWS? There are no words, really, there aren't.

I am starting to enjoy him. He cracks me up.

FOUR MORE YEARS!!

The stupid twat always seems more concerned about tv rating figures than he does about politics.

I think CNN are fecked. Their image is tarnished and it just keeps getting worse. Fox and the President are going to go after them relentlessly now and ironically it wont matter if what they say is true or false. This Fake News narrative put in people's heads by Trump has spread like a virus and stories like this will definitely not help matters at all. This guy has previous for blagging, falsifying stories and using clever editing to show his agenda so this video could be entirely made up too, but it wont matter. It all really does beg the question, do they have anything at all on Trump or anyone in his past or present? Is there a smoking gun or is it all just hearsay, guesswork, paranoia and desperation from reporters? Whatever, CNN now have to be so careful and ensure everything they report is faultless.

Another irony in all this (actually CNN would probably look at it as a huge injustice) but the fact is that if Fox were held to the same editorial standards as CNN are then they would have gone out of business years ago. Again, as with Trump himself and the way he seems to be untouchable, I find it incredibly upsetting, annoying, frustrating and completely unfair that Fox are allowed to report absolute bullshit, one sided nasty, aggressive and exceedingly unfair coverage yet everyone else has a strict code they have to stick to. It's incredibly bizarre that they get away with it by calling it opinion rather than news/facts yet it is most definitely not dressed up like that and it's hard to take that explanation when near enough the entire network and everyone involved with it all follow the exact same line. Crazy, no?

I doubt any of this will matter. People who like Trump and get their info from Hannity and talk radio will have a ball with this. People who watch CNN and MSNBC won't care and will continue getting their news from both.

Edit: on the other hand, this is a video leaked by Project Veritas. Their record in regards to editing videos to suit their agenda ain't sparkling

I agree to a certain extent but it's bringing unnecessary attention to themselves and as I said, they are now going to have to be incredibly careful with everything they report. More the point though is it's now going to be open season on CNN and Trump especially will use them at every opportunity. He already has been for months, this just adds some actual credibility to his inane ramblings and deflecting accusations. It's stupid and very careless and I hate to agree with Trump here but it does make CNN look very unprofessional and very desperate.

I sincerely hope they all stick together here. It's been said for months that the press need to all work together to bring down Trump and co, that is so true and it needs them all to defend themselves too. As we saw in the WH press briefing today (the one that we were allowed, like it's some kind of special privilege) it really is war against the press, that reporter fought back and she doubled down and basically said the entire media (except Fox) are all in on it together.

CNN have scarcely mentioned this story today during their own broadcasts. I'm sure they know that talking about will just prolong other people talking about it.

They have cancelled the usual schedule on UK CNN. They didn't have Don Lemon for his usual 2 hour show and replaced it with some random Middle East programme. I'm not sure about Anderson Cooper because I was watching Logan when it was on but i'd guess they didn't show that either. Very strange.

Lemon's show was cut to an hour tonight because Jim Sciutto aired his Trump/Russia documentary. Not sure why it wasn't aired in the UK as well.

Ahh, cool, that explains it then, I only turned on the second hour so just assumed, obviously incorrectly, that they had not shown it at all as a few earlier shows were changed/cancelled too.

That has been our Achilles' heel since 2010. It's a real problem!

On the eve of the 2010, 2014 and 2016 elections, more respondents in the Gallup poll identified themselves as democrats than as republicans. And yet, we lost all three elections decisively. Sure, some democrats voted for Trump, but there was no Trump in 2010 and 2014.

The House is lost, the Senate is gone, the WH in GOP hands and the Supreme Court will be conservative for at least one generation... because they "can't trust Hillary Clinton"!

On the other hand, maybe the democrat party should not have tried to force hillary on the public? Its kind of stupid to not listen to the voters and then blame them for not showing up.

What's the betting that the CNN (genuine) fake news was fed to CNN by Trump associates hoping they'd run with it so it could later be exposed as fake news and in doing so all ruin all credibility?

That's entirely possible and has been suggested for other stories in the past, but if you look back through yesterday, an article posted (sorry mate, can't remember which one) said that they were just sloppy and that the story not only had merit, but was also likely to be mostly accurate with the bones of the story entirely true. It was just they didn't have the information to back it up properly and didn't do the proper (or enough) research. If that's true then it's inexcusable that three such experienced journalists became so sloppy and it's no wonder they were fired. The shit those three guys will have dropped not only on the network but also adding fuel to the fake news fire.

Fair enough, I've been busy the last few days and haven't had chance to follow it very well. I wonder how much presure CNN execs had been leaning on their star journalists to put out these stories.

I think that's the real story mate and I bet that will come out soon enough. Apparently though, CNN had extremely strict guidelines to follow when reporting anything about Trump and Russia. Since all this has been in the open CNN have apparently made those rules even stricter so it does appear that anything they report now will be 100% bang on. In a strange way this feck up could be a good thing, but the trouble is Trump and his supporters wont care as they think everything CNN (and the rest of the fake news papers and networks) is all completely false. Fighting a losing battle with that lot.

Just this at the moment, but it will all come out very soon, of that I am sure.

And..

 FFS.

This actually broke yesterday. Seems three of CNN's journos went with a flimsy story that painted Scaramucci as somethibg that wasn't. He objected, CNN investigated and found he was correct.

CNN have done a good job in sacking people for going overboard on Trump. Kathy Griffin, Reza Aslan, and these three deserved to be let go.

Suppose we need to wait for more reporting before having an idea of whats gone on.

Could be stuff like using sources that were unreliable, knowingly deceiving the audience, making the entire thing up, though this is highly unlikely when you look at the good credentials of the employees involved., etc.

McConnell delaying the vote on the health care bill. Dems win.

Good news.

Also the republicans leadership finally stood up to Trump on this attack ad that was created by a pro-Trump group targeting a GOP senator who opposed the bill. The ad got removed after the complaints were made.

Its good that that the Stone testimony is private. The guy's a grade a attention seeker looking for limelight and he'll be disappointed he wont be able to do it in front of millions of viewers.

Shortly after Donald Trump was elected president, Amy Siskind took one of her occasional trips to Val-Kill, the Upstate New York home of Eleanor Roosevelt.

“I needed a Zen moment,” Siskind, who had campaigned for Hillary Clinton, told me. “And that is a place that inspires me.”

Soon afterward, Siskind began keeping what she calls the Weekly List, tracking all the ways in which she saw America’s taken-for-granted governmental norms changing in the Trump era.

The project started small, read by friends and with only a few items a week.

By Week 9, though, the list had gone viral.

“It blew up — I had 2 million views that week,” she said. “People were responding like crazy, saying things like, ‘I’m praying for you.’ ”

As time went on, the list grew much longer and more sophisticated. Here are three of her 85 items from mid-June:

●“Monday, in a bizarre display in front of cameras, Trump’s cabinet members took turns praising him.”

●“AP reported that a company that partners with both Trump and (son-in-law) Jared Kushner is a finalist for a $1.7bn contract to build the new FBI building.

●Vice President Pence hired a big-name “lawyer with Watergate experience to represent him in the Russian probe.”

Now, in Week 32, every item has a source link, and rather than just a few items, there are dozens. (Her weekly audience usually hits hundreds of thousands, she said, on platforms including Medium, Facebook and Twitter.)

The idea, she said, came from her post-election reading about how authoritarian governments take hold — often with incremental changes that seem shocking at first but quickly become normalized. Each post begins with: “Experts in authoritarianism advise to keep a list of things subtly changing around you, so you’ll remember.”

Both NYTimes and NewYorker are paywalled and my granddad's subscription from NY doesn't work from Denmark. He got locked out after I tried logging in. This sucks.

For fecks sake  He's such a bad liar. Does nobody remember, or does he not remember saying only a couple of months ago that "nobody knew healthcare could be so complicated" By feck he's such a moron. You see THIS right here is where I despair and where I struggle and have severe difficulty how and why people support him. It's blatant lies like this that I cant understand how he gets away with at times. Nobody else would, that's for sure.

Yeah but that was, as you say, a couple of months ago. He's had two whole months to figure out how healthcare works and he's fixed it. He's very smart, don't you know. Very successful. Has his name on a building and everything.
