The Remake Draft

4 and a half, it's GMT, not BST

Oh are we having this again. It's the sweepstake all over again. People in England write gmt throughout the year so is the deadline 11 or 12 in the UK?

I guess @Joga Bonito will decide, I'm just stating the rules. I'm all for going forward if you ask me, bored to death already

Ah right see I would have had it as 7.40 but no worries the draft has to go back passed no pace anyways so I won't be picking for a while it's just confusing is all.

I've always been an advocate of Zulu.

Or UTC as it's called. No ambiguity.

But these drafts normally run on London time, so I'm assuming that goes for this one too.

15:00 British Summer Time: Start of draft.

So, first deadline is 23:00 BST.

We should just stick with GMT considering this draft has global participants.

OK so BST now is about 20:05, 5 hrs ahead of me then.

Kool

GMT is fine by me - that is Zulu.

But the question here is what Joga meant when he started the timer at 1500 - so he's the one who has to make that call.

Needless to say, when I run my Draconian Draft, what time zone is used will change randomly - and without warning.

this is in no way critical of the draft overlords, but why the HUGE window of time for someone who must have been aware we had started drafting? There was enough time for us all to research in between picks. the first round was always going to be bigger well known players who could undoubtedly play in any era, so far thats rung true.

It's just because the draft wasn't meant to start until today that's all. Everyone will only have 8 hours per pick now.

Edit: Don't see BST mentioned anywhere at all. Where's this confusion coming from?

Yeah, sorry about that - I thought there was no mention of zone, just the time.

But as harms says, it's common practice to go with London time. If it says GMT, though, the matter is clear - at least formally speaking.

To stay on this fascinating subject (which we have discussed before, by the way), it's also common practice to call London time "GMT" even though this is inaccurate at best, since London is not on GMT all year (and not, for instance, at this present time).

So, in theory, Joga could have been using GMT loosely - actually meaning BST.

It's always been Caf London time for all drafts so I'd imagine the intention was for 11pm (i.e. one hour away).

Yeah.

Is there anyone after me that I can give my 2nd pick to?
Also I think you can use anyone from the draft committee who's online?

The lazy feckers doesn't do anything anyway, they're just redirecting all our questions to Joga

same pick?

@Brwned can you confirm your picks if you are not going to be here?

6. Once a pick is posted in the thread, either by a manager or his assistant, it CANNOT be changed. This rule is final, no exceptions (posted by mistake, etc). Be careful before posting a pick.

If we are strict to the rules, he doesn't have the luxury of choosing now (and he shouldn't have deleted his post in the first place) - it clearly is "posting by mistake". Not that he would mind though, I'm sure)

Have to disagree here. The mistake was not in the pick but in the timing. Since it was not his turn, the player he posted can't be considered 'his pick'. He should be able to change it if he chooses to.

Yes, I'd take "by mistake" as meaning, primarily, fecking up, in one way or another, when posting a pick that is yours to make - not posting out of turn (which could be the result of a legitimate misunderstanding - which was the case here).

Well, let's agree to disagree. He posted it as his pick and, unless it's impossible for him to pick this player (if NoPace actually showed up and picked him, no other options), than he would've been free. Our opinions on that matter doesn't count anyway, only Joga's and the committee
I have Kazi's pick. Has NoPace time run out?
20 minutes left GMT, run out if we are on CLT :D

Thought it was 11pm London time ?

Joga hasn't showed since the beginning of this discussion, so it's still a question at this point. He specified GMT in the OP, as you can see for yourself, but we usually use London time in the draft and GMT is often misused as a British time, which it isn't (sometimes, like now for example).

His deadline has passed, on with the draft say I
Well, we still need @Brwned to show up if we want to continue (and he hasn't been here for two hours so he may have went to sleep already). Although we all know his pick

Yup. Joga can decide on this.

But my understanding was first valid pick would be binding. At time of posting it was invalid and is to be ignored. It'll definitely be a stretch to consider 'pick may have become valid in case NoPace doesn't turn up and/or doesn't pick the same player' arguments.
