@NoPace

Mark Noble's a bit of a wildcard pick, I'll admit. I mulled over who to choose to replace Alan Ball for a while. England have had lots of hardworking midfielders and that is practically all Ball is remembered for. I could've picked another ex-West Ham player who was named England and Premier League player of the year.

The thing is, Alan Ball was also a technical player. That was just overshadowed by a) his ridiculous energy levels and b) Charlton's and Peters' class on the ball. Ball was an excellent continuity player. He won the ball back, he carried it forward, he picked clever passes and as a result he injected energy and pace into the game.

Mark Noble is undeniably hard-working. He covered the most ground in a very hard-working West Ham team last season, and he worked hard in possession too. He's also a very technical player. He might well be the best English penalty taker of his generation, having scored 25 out of 28. Above all else he excels as a team player.

Bilic said:
“There are no midfielders who are having a better season than he is – constantly from the first game at Arsenal. He’s unbelievable,” purred the West Ham United manager after his captain’s emphatic volley 11 minutes from time sealed a professional victory over West Bromwich Albion.

“I was an international coach for six years and the national team is not about the 23 best players in one country. It’s also a team, especially in the big tournaments where they are together for six weeks. It needs atmosphere and everything – stars and lesser stars and all that. Is he a top-quality player? Of course. Not only today because he scored a couple of goals. It’s every day, every game, every training session. He is top class. Mark is a great person also. He’s playing great. He could help England.”

Adrian Clarke said:
Type 'Mark Noble underrated' into Google and you will discover 243,000 results. West Ham's long-serving midfielder is widely recognised as a player who deserves more credit.

It is a fair assessment. At 28, and in his 12th season as a West Ham first-teamer he continues to be a positive influence. Happy to sit deep or push on to perform a box-to-box role, the homegrown favourite is a cultured footballer who greases the wheels at the Boleyn Ground.

Calm on the ball (86.13% pass accuracy), combative (2.8 tackles per match), and with excellent positional sense (2.2 interceptions per match), he offers Slaven Bilic a rounded style that fits in nicely his measured philosophy.

Noble's ability to hit accurate long balls from back to front or side to side (4.6 per match) also provides the Hammers with a more direct option. When he is absent, this is noticeable.

Perhaps more importantly, the captain also happens to be the heartbeat of West Ham United’s creative triangle.

No three Hammers players pass to one another more than Aaron Cresswell, Dimitri Payet and Noble. With the skipper orchestrating their involvement as much as possible, the trio have conjured up the majority of the team's efforts on goal.

Without receiving such regular and intelligent service from the uncapped Englishman, there is every chance that talismanic playmaker Payet would not have enjoyed such a spectacular debut BPL season.

He is a class act in his own right, but Noble's combinations with the gifted Frenchman have also been priceless.

A well-researched strategy :)

The opportunity for me to discover Noble.

Not to say it's a bad pick but I'm surprised at the Noble selection, particularly given he hasn't played for the national side. I can see the logic of it though and I agree it's a better pick than the other West Ham midfielder.

I probably would have gone for an ex-united midfielder but Noble possibly is a bit more technical/attacking and perhaps more like Alan Ball.

What? We all know he's the second coming of Djalma Santos.

tbf i did it often, taking the piss with 12h pick but this is the first draft you can use that pick to your benefit so its strange to see someone wasting it....
but as i like Fosu, you have my approval :D

Really? I thought the 12th pick in this draft specifically is quite irrelevant. He's not going to get a game because your opponent's team doesn't really affect the changes in your own team for this draft.

Who can I send my pick to?

My 12th pick will be in the starting 11 :)

There are players in this draft you cant possibly replace so IMO the 12h pick is good to pick a backup for one of this players.

What do you mean? I ask because I have no idea what do with this 12th pick. Or does anyone have any explanation as to what a logical strategy/purpose is for this pick?

@Raees, @anant you have permission to go ahead. I have my XI so I'm not too worried about this pick.

What do you mean? I ask because I have no idea what do with this 12th pick. Or does anyone have any explanation as to what a logical strategy/purpose is for this pick?

for example, i have to find modern Matthaus and thats impossible so i can pick 12h player as a backup for that role just in case people dont buy my original pick and i can make a sub during the match.

Makes sense. I guess I'll take Mesut Ozil, since he plays similarly to one of my 2 basically irreplaceable players and the other position has nobody I can think of even being plausible.

Humm. In 1990, Matthaus was a super man, a quick box-to-box able to outflank the opposing team with powerful shots.

The Greatest 'central midfielder' in the history of the game (so we exclude offensive players like maradona or platini). Other great central midfielders were Didi, Xavi Hernandez, Falcao, Nesskens...

Hard to compare box to box midfielders with the more playmaking central midfielders such as Didi etc, but as far the former category goes, Matthäus is definitely top tier and has a great case to be rated as the best of the lot. Didi is the best playmaking central midfielder for me though.

I agree with you. My classification of all these players is sample:

- Matthaus version 1990 + Falcao + Breitner - Central Midfielder // Box-to-Box player
- Didi - Central Midfielder // Central Holding Creative Midfielder
- Frank Rijkaard - Central Midfielder // Defensive Holding Midfielder
- Xavi Hernandez- Central Midfielder // Central Holding Midfielder
- Luis Monti - Central Midfielder // Destroyer
