The MMA thread

Anyone got a good stream for this? I've bought the UFC Fight Pass last month but it's shit. I can't watch anything live on there because "its blocked in my region".

Christ....Manuwa should be putting the likes of Blachowicz away fairly easily if he considers himself a top contender.

Reckon Volkov should get a shot at Steffan Struve next (who we all know is the best HW at the moment).

Blaydes and Volkov should either fight for it or just get the shot right away, but outside these two, can't see other in form HW deserving it.

I reckon Overeem might beat Blaydes in Chicago which isn’t great for the division as he’s a young fighter which HW needs.

Think they’re doing Till a favour with his fight...I imagine he knows who he’s facing but they won’t announce it (or maybe conform to the opponent) until a few weeks after Till knew giving him a few weeks advantage.

I forgot Blaydes is scheduled to fight the Reem. I hope Curtis manhandle him and get the shot.

As for Till, he got called out by Leon Edwards, but it seems he wants to fight Masvidal.

So, who do you all have for Khabib vs Tony? Personally, I think Khabib is going to run through him.

I have more worries about him beating the scale and still not getting that belt. :nervous:

It will be epic since both are world class on the ground.

I think if Ferguson beats him it's going to be by Khabib going for a take down and walking into a knee or something. If Khabib keeps it on the ground I think he wins on points.

Edit: Though I thought the same about Edson Barboza fight. I thought Khabib might walk into a head kick or a knee but he didn't obviously. And I'm not sure if Khabib can just go at it for 25 mins either. It's a fascinating fight.

Anyway, both of them put away McGregor.

Even if the whole fight happens on the ground, that's 25 minutes for Tony to work on a submission and throw those elbows.

I hope Khabib dares to stand up for a bit though.

Has Khabib ever been submitted? I mean he fought RDA who's presumably better than Ferguson on the ground. I know it doesn't work like that but Khabib Harai Goshi RDA at one point.

And I know Ferguson is excellent of his back but I don't think elbows will be enough to stop Khabib.

I think Ferguson's movement will play a big part. If he can catch Khabib, stun him and then finish him by TKO. Personal opinion with with probably a bit of bias to Khabib. :wenger:

No, just like that unbeaten Russian who got submitted yesterday by fecking Paul Craig. It can happen..

I was thinking maybe some triangle or D'Arce choke (use the elbows to force him into a mistake). It would be incredible if he could pull it off though. I think his best chance as you say, would be catching him with something on a stand up exchange.

Khabib's cardio gonna be tested too. He starts breathing heavy at the end of round 2. If Tony can get this into the championship rounds, gonna be interesting.

Can't wait... gonna be so fecking nervous come fight time.

What Russian got submitted? I didn't watch the prelims. Only Russian I seen was Volkov.

I think Ferguson's unorthodox style may just be the thing that gets Khabib. That sort of brawler style, (I know it's a bit rudimentary to describe him just as brawler) where he just keeps clipping with his elbows and knees - that stuff can eat away Khabib. You take a couple of body shots and a few elbows to the face - suddenly you don't want to close the distance as much anymore like khabib does. Also Khabib is anything but a natural fighter on his feet. He keeps his head down and just walks forward swinging. Thats a recipe for disaster imo. Everytime I watch him I shit my self that he's going to take one on the chin and just buckle. Ferguson, also, has amazing cardio, so maybe he'll be able to just chop away at Khabib bit by bit. And there was a fight earlier in Khabibs career when he just kept taking down this guy and he got back up. And another guy -- Gleison Tibau. Khabib failed in every take down against him but he still won cause the other fella just gassed out. And to be fair to Khabib he changed his approach; to stand up, as the guy was just to too big for him, For Khabib to keep trying to take him down.

On the flipside, I don't think a submission is possible on Khabib cause he's really experienced in Sambo, Judo etc. It's his bread and butter. I get that Tony is a black belt in BJJ but a Judoka like Khabib will know all the defences to it - I seriously doubt it he will get submitted imo. Khabib is more than profient in Judo and Sambo, he's been under the some of the best trainers that Soviet Union and Russia has to offer. We know Tony is extremely good off his back, and that he has amazingl cardio but Khabib is too strong for him. So will have to see how that plays out. I mean if he lets Khabib get on top of him like he did with Kevin Lee --Ferguson is going to eat a lot of punches. Khabib is very methodical as well; in the way he gets in to position -- to ground-and-pound an opponent. He doesn't just go for a take down and starts pounding an opponent. He's working him with his legs he's clinching the opponents arms. And then he starts beating you. It must be a horrible expreince. If I was Tony's coach I'd personally tell him to: stay the feck away from the fence, or the ground. Tony is far better on his feet than Khabib is, and vice versa imo.

I'm really, really looking forward to this fight, and in my honest opinion I can't pick a winner which makes it so good and definetly an amazing match up.

@MaxiPaxi Magomed Ankalaev. The video is a couple posts up.

Hot Lava Hot Lava!! For everyone that would be the case, but as someone on that video said, Tony might embrace going down because he feels too comfortable on his back. It could definitely be his doom. Standing up he has the reach advantage to jab Khabib and try to catch him with some crazy shit.

That's what Eddie Bravo said - I'm paraphrasing but it was something like: Khabib takes everybody down and everyone just tries to defend themselves -- Tony is going to light a fire under him' or something to that effect. I think it was on Joe Rogan Pod for the 209 card which got cancelled.

I'm not so sure it's such a great idea. Like do you think he can hurt him Khabib of his back? Sure he may tag a few times but I'd think Tony's best strategy would be to work Khabib and counter punch/elbow/knee him and then bury him or just out score him by standing up.

Also Bravo was saying how good Ferguson's JJ is but Khabib has fought guys who were positively better than Tony at JJ. I think it would be daft for Ferguson to roll and try to trap Khabibs joint/leg/ankle etc, like he does at times. Khabib would see it coming. So it's going to fascinating. I'm looking forward to this event as I was looking forward to when United made CL finals. I can't fecking wait to see what happens. It's perfectly poised.

The thing with Khabib is the opposition are so petrified of being taken down that they immediately abandon their own strategies once Khabib starts coming at them with his punches. I'm sure Tony will get taken down but I'm not entirely sure what will happen after since Tony is far better on the ground than anyone Khabib has ever faced.

Whatever happened to Abdul Kerim Edilov ? He was impressive last time we saw him in 2017.

Rogan's Podcast with Yoel Romero was great. Hopefully someone brings out a subtitled version as apparently (and expectedly) Joey Diaz's translations weren't always on point.
Most of what he said was 100% spot on, just on one or two occasions he missed the ball that's it.

Think Ferguson's gonna beat him easily, personally. There's a gulf between them in stand-up and that terminator takedown strat of Khabib's will be abandoned by the third try, otherwise he's going to sleep.

Ferguson's traps are elite and he'll set something up as soon as he sees Khabib's pattern on approach.

Khabib hasn't the tools to get in grapple range against someone so skilled and cunning.

One thing, though, is Ferguson's hubris might lead him to intentionally to prove a point.. If he does that, all of the above is redundant.

If Ferguson's got his professional head on, it'll be quite a let down as a contest as he keeps Khabib at length until he knocks him out...

There! Sticking my neck on the line!

Ferguson had issues against Kevin Lee in getting taken down and the G&P, Khabib is a different level to Lee in both departments.

Want Fergsuon to win but think Khabib will. Can't wait for this fight.

Kevin Lee is multitudes more explosive than Khabib. Are you saying Khabib is levels better at shooting in and stand-up than Lee?

Khabib is a better grappler and different animal at getting people to the ground and dominating there. I've never seen anybody dominate people like Barboza and Johnson the way that he did. He's similar to DC where he has a ridiculous grinding style that breaks a lot of guys. Nobody has said he's better at stand-up than Lee for the record, two different styles. I'm saying that Ferguson had issues against Lee where he was taken down, in the first he was getting ground and pounded in the first round towards the end. My view is that Khabib is better at getting people to the ground and dominating there and it's something I see Ferguson having an issue with in this fight.

Fascinating fight. Some people underrate Khabib IMO simply because he's had so many injuries and therefor hasn't fought enough fights over the last few years. This is a huge fight for him to prove himself. Like I said, Ferguson is one of my favourite fighters and I want him to win but I've got a feeling that Khabib will get this down to the ground and grind him down.

Head says Khabib, heart says Ferguson. Important to remember that Ferguson is on a 10 fight win streak and 6 of those wins have come via chokes. He's dangerous everywhere. Both IMO are there to be hit when they're standing too. A tonne of heart and both have cardio. This is one to get properly excited for.

Agree with the DC vibe, but unlike him Khabib's stand-up is average and he's not durable like DC either. It's the pure fear he puts in people that has them so pensive and that's just not going to happen vs Ferguson -- I really think only his own ego allows Khabib in to engage -- this is the fight of the year for a lot of people, but looking at it coldly and ignoring the hype, I seriously wonder how he gets his hands on Tony unless Tony wants him to.

If I'm way off and Ferguson can't keep him out at will, then it's going to be a great fight.

it's a close contest the Khabib vs. Ferguson fight I wouldn't put money on it anyway! At a push I'd edge towards Khabib just think it's his time really. Hoefully there's no issues with injuries/weight cuts etc and we get to the fight and it's as good as it should be.

This is a fight I'm super excited for. I want Khabib to win but it will be close. Khabib normally manhandles his foes but Tony is a different beast altogether... man can get a choke in from any angle! Nervous for this one...

you think he can walk down Ferguson?

Watched Khabib v Barbosa again last night. It was brutal. As Rogan said, the look of hopelessness on Edson's face was similar to the look a zebra has the moment its been tripped up by a lion. Definitely going with Khabib in this one.

I'm honestly not sure how it goes mate. Like I said at a push I favour for Khabib. I don't think it would be an easy fight or anything like that and I may well be wrong. I'm looking forward to what is the 2 best in the division (and maybe the whole UFC) going at it to be honest.

Really curious to see what Khabib is made of vs someone who has absolutely no doubt in his mind he's the better fighter and will win.

Will be amazed if there's any fear factor in this one for Khabib to profit from. Will be a new experience for him.

It’ll be intresting to see how it goes on the ground. Tony can get submissions from a lot of places but Kahbibs top control is other worldly. Wonder if Tony can get him on his back.

@Raoul I watched his fight vs Johnson not long ago and that was scary as well. “just give up, you know I must fight for the title, you know I deserve this.” Just scary, can’t wait for this.

The problem for Tony is he isn't a world class striker like say...Conor is, and wont be able to simply knock Khabib out. So at that point, Khabib will put pressure on Tony just as he did with Barboza by simply walking him down and trying to initiate a clench. At that point its all about what happens next since both are great on the ground.
