The MMA thread

feck, didn't manage to put in a bet. Had to deposit. Half way through the 1st round it looked like it was heading this way.

Thought this may happen. She seemed far too composed at the weigh in. I guess we now know why Dana passed up another Miesha Tate fight for Holm.

Fantastic performance from Holm, she had Ronda in her pockets and I'm happy to see Ronda's classless actions in the prefight come back to bite her in the ass.

I'm so happy that happened. We can finally stop hearing about Ronda and she can forget about being undefeated and all this nonsense. I expect the movies will dry up, or become far less frequent?

I'm basing this on my thought that her brand is based on her aura of invincibility and media hype.

With that out of the way, if Ronda recovers mentally from that clowning, she will come back better than ever and more dangerous. Why? Because her striking is absolute shit-tier mummy-mode block punches with her face silliness. She actually bought into her own hype about being a world class boxer, and the first lady she ran into who was a good enough athlete, and good enough striker to not get beast-moded down, made her striking look hilariously bad.

The problem is, her grappling is still undeniably world-class, and this will force her back to grappling. Ronda isn't going to make this mistake twice. She isn't going to try to strike with an elite striker. She's going to look to work clinch and then take her down. Ronda striking = clownshoes beating up crappy girls. Ronda grappling = best in the world.

@Earthquake @DatIrishFella it sounds like I missed an exciting fight... just checking out some of the replays now. They built Rousey up so much like she was unbeatable, didn't she get called "the most dominant fighter in the history of MMA"?
Yeah, missed something special. About a minute it it was like, "wait, what, this is going to be a proper fight?", then another minute it was like "wait, what, Holm's dominating.....".

End of the first round, Rousey looked like she was going into the 4th, not 2nd.

So I guess she won't be fighting Mayweather then?

Dana White said:
First of all, have you ever seen Floyd Mayweather? He's about this tall. She would rag doll him as soon as she put her hands on him. And then, everybody talks about Floyd knocking her out. How many people does Floyd actually knock out? Not many.

Why didnt the greatest female MMA of all time stick around to interview with her super fan Joe Rogan? Saddest person in the world right now is Cyborg...makes that fight moot.

If Holm gets a ground game...ffs, watch out. She was clinical in this fight...Rousey played right into her game plan.

Never bought the hype. She was only beating what was in front of her and what was in front of her was nothing special.
Finally I've seen somebody not rush into Rhonda armed with weak punches or walk straight into a hip toss and tap... And it was beautiful.
Why would Rhonda rush a skilled kickboxer and 3 weight world boxing champion? It's 5 rounds. Minimise the stand up and sooner of later she will get her Into position to grapple. She was outclassed in the first round and yet had 2 golden oppertunities to get it done, imagine if she had a proper gameplan.
If I was close to Katie Taylor I would have had her down the gym developing a decent level of kickboxing herself. The money to be made from such a weak roster is mindblowing

Is this the best result for woman's MMA, or was having one dominant destroyer better for garnering interest?
Better for fans of MMA.

Not better for Dana's wallet, nothing like a true one of a kind rockstar(which Rousey now is not) to sell tickets and hype, etc.

He'll be praying for McGregor to beat Aldo now.

That commentary!

"Wow"
"Wow"
"Wow".

Insightful.

Was it looped? I don't remember them saying wow over and over, but then I was giggling hysterically like a school girl cause I knew Ronda was gonna get knocked the feck out by this point ;p

She thought she was unbeatable and decided to strike with a pro boxer. In the rematch she will hopefully go back to what she does best
