The MMA thread

Cormier's chin is ridiculous but he could have had a lot easier night if he tried a few more take downs. The first one was majestic, strength that took was very impressive!

On that showing Jones is still the best in the division though.

exactly my thoughts...

I think its really stupid to try and prove a point by letting your opponent get to you.

Just keep Gustaffson down and finish the fight in the 2nd/3rd round instead of losing countless fight time by getting your head fecked up.

Everyone should aspire to be like Rhonda and take it seriously, extend your career the more you can.

ps. it was good for us the fans, but i wouldn't mind a dominant victory just based on Wrestling and ground n pound.

Jones surely will get the next shot

I'd probably pair up rumble against Bader and maybe Gus vs OSP?

DC's takedown was quite epic, but I thought Gus had him with the knee and finish attempt in the 3rd. I was shocked that DC suddenly just got up as if nothing happened. Impressive fight for both nonetheless.

Middleweight seems to be setting up for some good fights in the future - logically it should be Jones/Cormier, Rumble/Teixeira, Gustafsson/Bader or something in that vein.

Just watched 192; the young backstreetboy ninja kid looked spectacular. Rashad looked gassed after one round and Bader is looking as good as ever.
Shame gus didn't do enough to get the belt, would have loved to see a rematch vs Jones. Altough him against current Bader would make a great fight.

I'm guessing you mean light heavyweight not middleweight buddy?

Thought the card at the weekend was pretty dull but the main event was superb. DC showed a new side to him by standing toe to toe and earned a lot of respect I think. Only problem is... He's just temporarily holding on to the title until Jones sorts himself out.

I think if Jones is back he will take on DC, Bader and Rumble are coming off wins and both in title contention so should probably face off. Glover isn't looking as dangerous as he used to and Gus is coming off a loss so that fight would make sense. Well either that or Gus vs. OSP would be good.

just watched the Sage Northcutt fight, boy is looking good. Him, VanZant and Yair could really be the next money cows for UFC if they are played right.

Yeah sorry, that's what i meant. I was thinking about Weidman etc when I wrote the post.

It's cool... Easy enough mistake to make especially when some fight in different divisions and there are so many! :D

Rumble/Bader would be a good fight, although I don't think Bader would be able to withstand Rumble's punching. For me Gus/Bader would be a great matchup and since Gus has already fought Rumble, that sort of makes it the ideal matchup.

I would love a Gus vs Bader and personally I think Gus wins but I think the UFC would lose out making that matchup.

Gus did great against Bones and DC but lost both, he is still only 28 and they are going to want to build him up again, they'll probably give him some easier matches to get him on a streak again before unleashing the rematch with whichever of DC or Bones that holds the title at that time.

Bader also is looking like a title contender and can mouth off to sell a fight, especially against DC so it would make sense to keep him in the W column and I think that's how they will keep it for now. But the UFC seem no not want to give him a title shot so it could be a possibility that they throw him in with Rumble because Rumble will punch him in to the middle of 2017.

Everyone seen the choked out MMA fighter that pooped himself?

Gus should give Heavyweight a go. He's likely gone as far as he can in LHW for now, however HW may actually be easier for him to make a serious run, with a big speed advantage. Cormier for example looked much more dominant at HW than he has at LHW due to being faster and even the power difference in punches I would say isn't that different. I'd wager rumble hits as hard as anyone and apart from that fight Gus is considered to have a solid chin.

Also in other news TJ has left Alpha Male! Guess he has sided with Ludwig over that whole messy affair. He's moving to Colorado and training with Elevation fight team + Ludwig. Good for him if that's what he feels most comfortable with, he looked phenomenal in his last fight and he had is camp for that up in Colorado. Probably figured it was best to get away from the drama and just trust in his head coach who has helped him so far, even if some or all of the allegations had some truth to them. Alpha Male is back to having no champions, McGregor and Cruz in particular would have a field day poking fun about that no doubt.

Surprised at TJ's decision

But it isn't actually Ludwigs gym although it is in Colorado. He will be training with Matt brown and Clay Guida, but I guess will still have sessions with Duane too

A real kick in the stones for Faber, I guess though if Cruz inevitably gets injured it could set up
Faber vs TJ

In the last TUF episode, Conor was joking with Uriah, telling him that he is an old man and that the only fight left for him is TJ, something along those lines. "stop being a pussy" lol

ps. wtf the guy who shat himself in the cage...:lol::lol::(

Rampage has started streaming on Twitch which has made for some hilarity. This call to Rashad Evans being one of them:

Thought I'd share this excellent video of Conor McGregor so far...

So Im feeling hard done by about UFC dublin now

Stipe Miocic is out :( I really hope they find a repleacment, as I was looking forward to seeing Ben Rothwell. Matt Mitrione has asked for the fight, but he lost badly to Ben just a few months ago. Oddly Tyrone Spong has challenged him too.

But even worse news, I found out Bruce Buffer will not be announcing. I had a feeling that might happen but was more positive he would be there as he was on the Scottish card.

Stipe dropping out sucks. If Tyrone Spong is serious about stepping in though he would be a quality replacement. A lot of people are intrigued to see what he can do in the UFC.

For some reason Chael has just done a brilliant defence of Wanderlei avoiding his drug test. It was so good that all you'd have to do is take it to the commission and it would be hard not to lift Wands ban. Chael is obviously hoping that if Wand can get licensed they can fight at UFC 200. It seems very odd that he'd suddenly pipe up with this if there wasn't something in it for him. They'd easily get $500,000 each for the fight.

Duffy out with mild concussion, the hooligan is now main event for Saturday. Pretty awful card now to be honest but hopefully should be good craic in there, I'll have enough pints anyway...

Time to get your refund if you're going. This card has died a death. What is he doing in training to get a concussion 3 days before a fight? Madness. MMA needs to figure out this injury problem, it all comes down to the training methods.

It's been a very quiet period for the UFC and then we get this card. It's practically thr off season it seems. Bring on UFC 193, it will kick off a good festive period from then on.

Jon Jones is back in the UFC.

http://www.ufc.com/news/UFC-Formally-Reinstates-Jon-Jones

Following a review of the plea agreement reached by Jon Jones and officials in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the judge’s decision, UFC announced today the formal reinstatement of Jones to the UFC roster. Effective immediately, Jones is eligible to return to competition. As such, UFC expects Jones to meet all of the terms of his plea agreement, including mandatory community service, as a condition of his reinstatement.

UFC is currently discussing with Jones a potential date for his return to the Octagon.

“We've made it clear to Jon that this new opportunity to compete in UFC is a privilege and not a right, and that there are significant expectations we have regarding his conduct moving forward," said UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta. “We’re happy to read and see reports that he has embraced the terms of his plea agreement and is using this experience to grow and develop as a person.”

“I am thankful to be able to do what I love once again and I look forward to proving myself as a champion in and outside of the Octagon,” Jones said.

So ive now met rory mcdonald. Andre arlovski, ben rothwell, dustin poirier, max holloway and a whole lot more

Quite the night

For anybody that cares you can watch tonight's Dublin show either on Fight Pass for free or on Pick who are showing it at 11 on a delay.

Shame for the Irish fans for Holohan to lose the main event, but I rate Smolka as a very good prospect at flyweight so no real shame in the loss. Fun card overall.

Had a geeat time. My hotel has most of the fighters staying. Should be an interesting nite. Just shared an elevator with robert whiteford who seemed gutted

Nice. I have to say I really think the fights delivered despite losing the top of the card. Atmosphere seemed great over the tv as expected, especially when everyone was singing Zombie and also when Seery won.

The seery and daly moments were increbile.

I think after tonight UFC Dublin has a high chance of becoming an annual event at the very least. Dana White called us the best fight town in the world.
