We haven't seen many top calibre defensively focused XIs. Joga had a fearsome unit in the Euros draft, then replicated it in the last all-time draft, but even they were perhaps too attacking for your stingy tastes. Cutch has tried a couple over the years, but they've not carried much favour with the voters.
Aye, the former had Platini at it's helm (from the semis) and Elkenigge which was received pretty well. The defense carried me to the semis no doubt, but after that it was arguably the fire-power which just gave me the edge. Likewise, the sheer influence of Maradona in the latter but both were water-tight defensive set-ups.
I quite liked anto's 6-1-3 or 4-2-1-3 or whatever it could be labelled as. Some of the defensive personnel could obviously be improved upon but the concept of the double-lock with two full backs cum midfielders seemed interesting to me, and it was topped off nicely with the wing-backs and the CM being the shuttlers, and a formidable forward trio which posed a significant threat on the counter. An intriguing tactical set-up
