Serie A 2024/25

Another draw for Juve, not scoring enough goals they have the best defence in the league but have scored the 2nd least in the top 7.

Vlahovic inevitably been a huge miss. Seems his contract is running down so perhaps he fancies a prem move now?

Roma v Atalanta tomorrow should be interesting. Roma really need to start picking up some wins and Atalanta need to show their title credentials

Atalanta will win the league

I'd absolutely love that from them. I don't know if they have the depth of squad, especially after the New Year. Their style of play is very intense and can tire out the players.

Inter has a deeper squad but Napoli has 1 game a week so I think the Scudetto is between those two

surely this guy deserves a move to a bigger club (all due respect)

They've got the firepower.

Quality in depth at the back is a question mark for me. I think they need to bring in another player to bolster their defence this January.

Speaking of defenders it was nice to see their young Centre-Back Giorgio Scalvini make his comeback against Milan last Friday. He has huge potential. Showed a lot of promise before he did his ACL a few months back

Scalvini is the future of Italian football. Italy missed him also at the Euros. Quality defender. Hope the injury hasn’t hurt his confidence.

I think having Scalvini back is massive for their defence. I actually think they could use another creative midfielder that can also get around the pitch.

Yeah Scalvini's return will give them a boost at the back especially if he can pick up where he left off.

Defensively I still feel they can sometimes be open at the back although to be fair it looks like they have tightened up a bit this season...

Good luck to them.
Gasperini's teams has been my favourite to watch in Serie A the last couple of years I hope they win the Scudetto although Inter still look the strongest outfit for me and have the experience of going all the way..

Not just the experience, but the depth in bench, too. Inzaghi also does a very good job of rotating his squad for both the league and UCL.

Come January/February, if Atalanta want to win the Scudetto, they’ll likely have to deprioritize UCL, especially if Inter is still in the competition.

Part of the reason Inter ran away with the title last year was due to their early exit from UCL.

The biggest factor for me is Inter can win games when playing badly. The defence is strong. But agree Atalanta cant go deep in the UCL as the squad is not big enough. Really hope they just focus on the league and win it

Was watching the end of the Juventus game seeing them losing to Venezia and perhaps my eyes are deceiving me but looks like they got a last minute penalty for their own player handling in the box!

Even if it didn't it certainly hit Douglas Luiz and then deflected onto the guy's arm so no idea how that can be classed as deliberate.

Juventus going to end up on about 20 draws for the season at this rate.

Them not losing a single game and sitting in 6th is incredible.

I was watching with a friend who supports Juve and even for him it was disgusting

Think it's because the ball was going in otherwise

Ball wasn't going nowhere special, but Venezia's dude had his arm stretched out to push on Luiz back and the ball hit it.
The rule and interpretations being what they are, that's a penalty.

Even if it didn't it certainly hit Douglas Luiz and then deflected onto the guy's arm so no idea how that can be classed as deliberate.
The rule doesn't need it to be classed as deliberate anymore... if a ball hit an arm in the box without clear deliberation, the first question is, was the arm tucked in to minimize the body silhouette? If not, it's still a penalty, unless the natural dynamic of the movement of the player made it impossibile for the arm to stay tucked in.

Granted, there's still a huge latitude in the interpretation of what can be considered a natural posture of the arm.
In Serie A, the tendency is to be stricter than in PL.
So, if you're extending your arms to push an opponent in the back and the ball ends up there, you may be out of luck.

This is of course debatable, but the point is that it wasn't such an outlandish penalty, for the way the rule is usually applied down here.

Actually, when we went out with Atletico in March we had already killed the league - Juventus was the only one on our tail and they capsized in February.
It was such a bummer, that exit: we ended up with nothing left to play for, just exactly when had finally built the gap to allow us to focus on a single competition.

Anyway, this year is a different story from the last two title-runs, nobody is going to run away with it, and the new CL format is brutal with those two more games in January plus eventual play-off tie.

Yeah, Inter won the league by manifest superiority, not much to do with depth(which actually wasn't great and the reason they went out to Atletico - Thuram on the pitch instead of Arnautovic and they win the first leg 3-0)

Thanks for the correction. I do know Inter built up a good head of steam in the league.

Arnautovic has to be tried for war crimes during that first leg against Atletico. He should have had a hattrick in that first leg at the Meazza and put the tie to bed.

No one would believe that in the first minutes of the match, prior to the silly penalty, Lazio was close to be in advantage...what a trashing

Did not expect that result.

The match didn't started at all like it could end like that. Yet Lazio missed three key palyers on every "zone" and where more tired, they gave that silly penalty and just crumble even physically.

I thought Lazio might eke out a 1-1 or 0-0 draw. A 6-0 battering at home was not on my bingo card.

Yeah, worst home defeat in the entire history of Lazio...

It's unreal how the game pivoted after the first 30 mins

Mind you, Inter also scored 5 goals from 1.35 xG (i'm excluding the penalty)

Just one of those games. Lazio capitulated after the penalty and then Inter basically scored on every shot afterwards

Damn.
Some goal that from Gonzalas in this cup game!

Nico is back from his injury? I'll check it out

Damn what a goal, Juve so far couldn't even use him, quite expensive if he doesn't get fit for at least the rest of the season.

The Goal:
