SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Only points of contact have been the odd delivery driver/postman and my sister dropping off groceries. I could have sworn I adhered to all the correct protocols before and after said interactions but human memories are notoriously unreliable. Clearly I fecked up somewhere otherwise I wouldn't be in this situation but I'm not going to spend the next few days racking my brain about it either. Plus the past few weeks have been kind of a blur due to the lack of structure which probably doesn't help my case as a model citizen.

It sounds like you keep yourself in good shape, which will stand you in good stead to fight the virus, hopefully you'll be over the worst of it soon.

It's possible you picked it up from a parcel or letter, as the virus can survive on cardboard for up to a couple of days but you're be quite unfortunate if this is the case. Regardless, get well soon.

There's still a risk of getting it even if you adhere to everything. People will have come into contact with those groceries, and it's more likely to be very recent with the current demand. Not mention everyone walking past them and potentially picking stuff up and putting it back down. Plus think how many people are in the postal sorting centres, and working at wherever you ordered from.

It's not your fault. Get well soon man.

Cheers. I'm based in the Midlands which is slowly becoming the epicenter in the UK which probably doesn't help but it is what it is.

With post I leave for a few days and even after opening I wash my hands but I plan ahead do things together.

Plastic bottles of milk will be handled by shop workers and it's something you'll be handling a lot each day so i just wash those with mild soap before opening the seal and rinse off with water. Other stuff I tend to leave for a few days if possible or open with scissors and rinse hands after. I've seen it first hand where shoppers and kids right up against the shelf unintentionally cough on food packages,

My hands are perfectly normal oily and supple, I'm not washing them often, I just plan ahead and incorporate a few things at a time.

You've also got to think if you go to a till , particularly in aldi with no self service, if they wear plastic gloves there will be a greater chance of it building up and being transferred to many items

I wear cotton gloves in the shop that I can slip off easily. The virus doesn't live long on fabrics or the skin but it's mainly so I don't cross contaminate my car steering wheel etc, keys and front door and a good reminder not to touch my face.

People can wipe their nose with hands , cough on hands and cough on the shopping basket handle, cough on and touch the food, plastic gloves and rubber conveyor belts could be quite a lot of build up. I'd rather break that chain with gloves and not have to wipe the inside of my car down each time. There's no hand santiser for sale and I'm really not into carrying one or applying it often. I'll leave that for businesses and other people who might need it while working.

Also if people visit it's best to meet outside as it will dissipate easily or at least open the windows inside. Small confines and close proximity by talking laughing and coughing can make it airborne for a time in the home. Someone without symptoms (asymptomatic) or pre symptomatic can be spreading this just the same. Communal areas in care homes are perhaps one of the worst places.

Calderwood sounds like a fecking robot.

This is so sad. UN chief António Guterres is calling for measures to address a “horrifying global surge in domestic violence” directed towards women and girls, linked to lockdowns imposed by governments responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the pandemic, the UN is reporting that Lebanon and Malaysia, for example, have seen the number of calls to helplines double, compared with the same month last year; in China they have tripled; and in Australia, search engines such as Google are seeing the highest magnitude of searches for domestic violence help in the past five years.

It is. Unfortunately everybody knew this would happen. :(

First of all, let's hope Boris will turn out fine. There's a good chance he's been admitted way earlier than other patients, just to make absolutely sure of his recovery.

Had way too much time on my hands last night, and compiled a little statistic from the numbers at Worldometers. This one looks at the number of tests needed to find a positive case in each country, and highlights a few countries flying below the radar, where there might be a significant percentage of undiscovered cases, and where the testing capabilites might be way lower than required to keep things under control. I've just included countries with more than 1.000 confirmed cases. China and Saudi Arabia have incomplete data and are not included.

France: 2.4
Algeria: 2.5
Dominican Republic: 2.6
Spain: 2.7
Iran: 3.2
Ecuador: 3.4
Belgium: 3.7
Serbia: 3.8
UK: 4.1
Ukraine: 4.2
Indonesia: 4.3
Netherlands: 4.4
Morocco: 4.7
Brazil: 4.9
Panama: 5.1
USA: 5.2 (New York 2.5, New Jersey 2.2, Michigan 2.6, Louisiana 4.6, California 8.0)
Italy 5.4
Sweden: 5.4 (Probably closer to 8 or thereabouts, but their number of performed tests hasn't been updated for a while)
Argentina: 5.8
Ireland: 6.0
Philippines: 6.0
Turkey: 6.7
Switzerland: 7.5
Portugal: 7.8
Mexico: 8.3
Luxembourg: 8.4
Peru: 8.5
Austria: 9.0
Germany 9.2
Croatia: 9.2

>10: Romania, Canada, South Korea, Israel, Norway, Australia, Russia, Czechia, Chile, Denmark, Poland, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Japan, Thailand, Finland, United Arab Emirates, Greece, South Africa, Qatar, Iceland, Colombia, Singapore, Egypt, Estonia, New Zealand

Witnessing this first hand in my building. Started two days after lockdown was introduced when I had to break up a fight between a guy and his wife, they've basically been arguing for the last 3 weeks. Police have intervened twice already but it doesn't stop.

Unfortunately this will highlight the relationships that were under a bit of a strain beforehand.

My wife got Diabetes type 1.
Today i saw a note in a swedish paper reporting that amongst the deaths in Italy, there was zero cases with type 1.
So now they have updated the riskgroups to only involve people with type 2 diabetes.

Anybody here can point me in the direction of more info around this?

Yeah, missus brother has type 1 so we were delighted when we read aftonbladet this morning.

How tragic, follows Trump in believing it was overhyped by democrat media, goes to Madri Gras, gets infected, dies; and missus stills blames media on “both sides”.

The mind fecking boggles with this Trump cult.

Definitely not an isolated case and Fox News are preparing for a huge class action lawsuit which could be particularly bad for them and Trump if discovery uncovers that despite having all the information of how bad this was going to be, they still lied to the public about it being a democratic hoax that would blow over.

Expect a lot of Trump’s correspondence with Hannity to be protected under executive privilege.

Its just the political rights playbook, they muddy the water calling everything partisan and their voters fall for it. It's been the same in the UK with Brexit.

Not sure i like the gotcha calling out of individuals like this though. Arguably it serves a purpose to convince others but it feels very callous

Trump is just utilizing and nurturing the emotions which have been present for decades, though, probably all the way back to the "Moral Majority" movement of the late 70s. The trenches have been well and truly dug since then.
