SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

We're in the same boat, with my mum 73 and up in E.Yorks and a lot of her old neighbours having died or moved away in recent years.

Joined up thinking would have the local cabbies all over the country being employed by government to deliver standardised food parcels to the old ones.

Sorts the food problem for OAPs and the employment problem for self employed drivers.

I think I'm being thick here but I don't see what the new rules do that are different to the old except police officers can disperse groups of more than 2 and ask for proof of there are more than 2 they are of the same household.

It doesn't stop people taking the piss going to multiple stores in their cars. It doesn't stop people seeing their friends/families in their homes. It doesn't stop people going about all day and claiming 'exercise'.

where are people going to go if there's nothing open?

Up to now, people have been gathering in numbers, continuing social contact with people outside of their household, certainly around here anyway. I know a few people having "corona parties", which is wild. It was in my local news today that some lads have hopped the fence of the closed sports centre and are playing football on the astroturf pitches. The beer garden at the closed pub up the road from me was full on Sunday with people taking their own food and drink, as some sort of stoic act of defiance. I've not seen that pub as busy as that even in the height of summer.

Car boot sale season just started up around my way this weekend too. I saw pictures of the local one to me yesterday, it looked heaving.

Or people will just to their mates or see their family.

It all seems a bit "feck you I won't do what you tell me", and I don't see it ending until there is genuine force. I do hope I'm wrong and people begin to get a sense of the severity of this, but this is the same general public that were punching each other for toilet roll, so I'm not sure they will.

I have to move out of rented accommodation this weekend to a new place. I assume I’ll be allowed to do that..I hope taxis are still available...

Nah, government recommendation is you must stay home. Bill Boris for any extra charges.

Not a bad idea, if they do it in a sanitary way.

There were known cases in the UK as far back as January.

There had been a death and over 100 cases just over 2 weeks ago. Tell me the harm in bringing these measures in 2 weeks ago?

The thought process, as in Sweden (and most countries), is that it was already rampant in society 2 weeks ago, and that shutting things down to full lockdown then becomes pointless until you reach tipping point for the health services. Kicking the can down the road if you like.

Sweden still haven't shut down and we likely won't until we reach our critical point.

I’m hoping that there will be some sort of emergency food drop via a support line or something
Yep or some kind of OAP express line for online deliveries. She has cancer and no mask to wear when going to the shops, just soap to wash when she gets back in.

We make car parts but Bo Jo didn't say essential work he said work that was necessary. What does necessary mean?

I'd imagine 'essential' is currently NHS critical staff, supermarket workers, delivery workers and certain teachers.

Not 100% sure though

He has quick yet gradual road map to enforce stricter measures of control.

Next step will using Army on streets to enforce; am sure they are being trained on protocols right now.

Its literally playing out exactly the same as the 2011 movie Contagion.

No, the lack of detail is a big problem. You have to know exactly what you can and can't do.

Yeh, that's right...boo hoo I don't know what I can do can the nasty government tell me please but make sure I don't need to go to work ok.

are banks considered an essential service or will they close too?

I would imagine banks would remain open as that was the case when Italy went into "lockdown", though likely in a reduced state.

In terms of working in a bank, there will likely be a mix of essential and inessential roles.

Anyone know what OAPs can do about getting shopping if they can’t get deliveries? Tesco cancelled the last one on my parent in-laws. They are 73 and 81 ffs
They said that there would be food drops for the over 70's and those that are vulnerable and they are supposed to start this week.

Hopefully the army is deployed to supermarkets to stop the madness

Don't know about the UK but moving places was branded as an essential activity in Belgium (assuming you have transport in place already, I'd guess). If it's anything like here, they'll come out with a FAQ tomorrow or so with answers about what will or won't still be possible.

I'm due to go up to Manchester for Easter. I'll be driving up, but my brother catches the train.

I guess that isn't happening?
No, as it's not essential and family gatherings are prohibited anyway.

What's the craic with building sites then? My mate seems to think this will change nothing at all for him.

Your mates right - you can't build a new 2 bedroom apartment from your home so you need to go to work to do it. Building sites are fine so get on with it la

"You like meat? You got got fish."

Apparently it's been rounded to one hour of brisk exercise but can't remember him saying that.

He said one bout of exercise a day. What happens to walking dogs etc? Unless everyone's form of exercise involves walking the dog.
