SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Japan is down to 18th now. Still less than 1000 cases. They must be doing something right over here.

Just come back round the M25 and it's rammed as usual, all east London into Essex is same 'ol.

We've really done feck all over here

Bit the same approach as in Holland it seems. I live about 3 miles from the Dutch-Belgian border and police are actively stopping Dutch people who are crossing the border why they are entering Belgium. If they don't have a valid reason (work, partner who lives in Belgium...) have to turn back.

Some sick people in those top 5 countries

Humans are the virus.

Covid19 is the cure.

The people who will die of this are not those who are responsible for creating and overseeing the economic system which is ruining the planet, which is precisely why the response of the UK and US governments has been to prioritise saving that economic system over saving lives.

Keep telling yourself that. First it's an absolute myth that younger people dont die or get temporarily incapacitated from this. Second, how many of the politicians CEOs and investors are in the risk group ? I'd say a whole damn lot. Third , what do you think will.happen when there no doctors left to attend the 'normal' patients?

No doubt its awful, but id imagine the government wil not help those that have already took matters into their own hands. Especially after boris said yesterday to stand by your employees and we'll stand by you.
He didn’t say that. He said we’ll stand by businesses and ‘hopefully’ they will stand by their employees

So yesterday it was being sent packing in 12 weeks.

I was assured that wasn't jhonson doing johnson and making numbers up.

Today, government suggest social distancing measures could be in place for a year.

What are the neasures that Japan has taken?

All school kids were told not to go to school. This was for two weeks but they are now off for two more weeks anyway. The trains have been less packed because of this.

Apart from that, nothing has really changed. Some flights were blocked from the most affected countries though.
No cases in my city so far. I think it helps being an island and having a Prime Minister that doesn't allow things like 3,000 people from Madrid to visit.

Less than a million people have died due to Covid19, it's barely dented the human population. What has change is people have stopped doing things, cities have shut down, air companies could be about to go bust, the economy seem to be about to tank badly etc etc. Basically.............capitalism has had it's wind knocked out of it's sales(pun intended) which has caused a bit of breathing space for fighting climate change.

The problem isn't people, it's capitalism - Some bearded 19th century bloke.

So last Wednesday my son was not feeling well and we thought he had some kind of stomach bug (came out both ends), which later just became a fever/cough. Then it his the missus with the same symptoms, just in the other order, cough/fever first, then stomach problems.

I on the other hand was fine, maybe some light headache and a bit low energy, but not too bad. Then yesterday it hit me full force and it feels like my lungs are on fire.

None of us has gotten the chance to get tested, but i am pretty sure we all have it now. Oh well. At least we wont have to worry about getting it later then :)

Do government seriously think people are going to live like this for 12 months? They’re having a laugh if they think billions of people will accept it. I expect things to get ugly in about 6-10 weeks times. Riots, shopping lifting. We will become a nanny state over a virus which is killing the elderly and people with prior illnesses. Some people will think I’m being harsh but so far 10k people have died on a planet with nearly 8 billion people. Even if we got to a million people the numbers are relatively small given how dangerous this virus is being implied to be.

Yes, but id well imagine if a business has already took matters into their own hands there wont be any help for those businesses. Guess a hunch on my part. Its why im surprised the business in question didnt or couldnt find a way to hold fire until close of business today

What if we get to 100 million?

Does it feel like normal flu? Curious to find out how it actually feels, is it worse than any other illness you have had before?

It's not a long term solution, but it should reduce the spread and once the spread stops it can be contained and hopefully disappears. It should also allows to contain future spreads better as the knowledge will be there.

We may see people returning to work and school but wearing facemask, gloves and hygiene rituals being mandatory. Huge fines for people who don't follow these rules.

Just in case there is anybody left who thinks this is still 'just a flu'. This hospital is just a few miles from me:

You’re conflating two different things. He actually said we could “Turn the tide” within 12 weeks, and that it was possible to send it packing. Not that we would send it packing within 12 weeks. Social distancing wont stop entirely until a vaccine is created.

Look people, we have a rebel here.

Steady on Thanos.
So with all those positive stories that are going around of “Dolphins close to the shore in Italy” and “Deer seen walking quietly across Paris” etc, that scene from Endgame where Cap is talking to Black Widow post snap saying exactly the same thing immediately came to mind!

The government's stance on schools is ludicrous. They've just announced their list of 'essential workers' and it's basically half of the population, meaning the kids of these workers can still go in school - with less staff to teach them and no noticeable extra financial support. They're basically asking teachers and TAs to act as nannys at this point, because parents can just say, 'Yes, I'm essential' and not have to have the kids at home with them! Total joke.

I think the idea is that once lockdown has been in place for a while and things seem to have peaked, then you can gradually lift measures a little bit at a time. If it seems stable, you can lift some more restricitons and if it starts to flare up again you can put them back. From personal experience here in Shanghai we can all go out and about freely again, you just need to have a paper slip from your local community, wear a mask and have your temperature checked when you are entering and leaving places. It's still not too ideal but nothing so bad that it should cause any major problems. Not to mention everyone is happy to do it and play their part in fighting the virus.

What would your solution be?

Unless it mutates and starts a second wave like Spanish Flu did.

This seems to be one notable policy adopted by East Asian countries which has not been followed in Europe. I have my own thermometer at home but many don’t, I’d really like to see this implemented in Ireland.
