SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Yeah but most governments still wouldn’t of believed him, if I went around beforehand saying this in the UK nobody would believe me. China is the cause of this don’t get me wrong but there approach has been excellent they have 1,3 billion people and 21 cases today them and South Korea have this under control

You seem to not realize that they are responsible for every single case that is outside of Wuhan. Their actual count is the global one.

He wasn't even telling that to the government, or going to the media. He was telling his colleagues that there is a high chance that SARS has returned, so they can know how to deal with their patients.

China fecked up, simple as that. And now they are making propaganda on how good they are, how they are willing to sell masks to other countries when they have been the main cause to this.

This.
Once the dust settles, China has a lot to answer for.

Please don't. The very first part... "Italy's fatal mistake was trusting the China regime.... and keeping its borders open with China". So they kept the borders open purely based on trust? Did China tell them to keep it open?

edit: Gatestone Institute is a far-right think tank known for publishing anti-Muslim articles. It was founded in 2008 by Nina Rosenwald, who serves as its president. Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former national security advisor, John R. Bolton, was its chairman from 2013 to March 2018. Wikipedia. :wenger:

So is it fair to say Italians are very unhealthy in terms of respiratory function?

How can they be at almost a consistent 10% when the rest of Europe is nowhere near that.

Unless the Virus is extremely strong in that area, but not even China had issues to this level did they?

There's going to be a lot of blame shifting. The criticism of the EU on the one hand, China on the other, America's healthcare system and the Tory party's initial reaction to this are all potential causes for further unrest in what is an already very tense situation in world politics .

So you're not really a pigeon? Feck.

I think they will extend it as long as they need to. My folks have been being quaratined on a boat off brazil, but are expected to leave within 24/48 hours back to UK, so there are routes available but I (and they) are not sure how much the FCO have to do with their repatriation.
Yeah that's what I'm worried about. My dad was due to come back to the UK from Australia on May, where he's lived for the last six or so years and has Aussie citizenship now, to meet his grandson. He isn't in the best of health tbh so if this goes on for a long time he may never get the chance to come over.

Selfish I know, but that's what we pigeons are like.

Or a lot more people have it/have had it and the stats are only showing up the more serious cases.

If Italy is such an outlier, maybe the UK shouldn’t be basing its revised modelling on the Italian data?

I think you Brits should watch Leo's speech so you can see the stark difference between Boris and a (semi) competent leader.

It's not a time for nationalist sentiment or anything, but in moments like this it angers me that Irish people in the North/NI are tied to London.

They would have believed him, Wuhan isn't a random city, it's one of the rare cities with a P4 lab. It's one of the rare cases where you could even think about a human mistake.

The demographic data would explain it. If they have a lot of elders among the positive cases compared to other countries, it would explain the higher mortality rate.

Thanks for the replies. How long for though? She’d also be taking my 1 year old son
For 2 weeks until after you've caught it and recovered.

I know you want to risk it sooner than then, but it's not worth it. You'll have a lifetime together to look forward to after it's all over.

I've just been down to my local micropub. There was great beer and good company, and I've returned home feeling a bit more positive about life in general. My usual drinking buddy (70.02 years of age) had elected to follow the government advice and stay at home. He missed a good evening. I hope the establishment will remain open and, while it does, I will continue to support it.

I'm sure the government will eventually close pubs and make us all stay at home (a la France). As a single retired person I dread that day, and in the meantime I will continue to try to live my life as normally as possible.

Quarantine him @Damien

Yeah, but is it in a very affluent and like-minded area?

Well, China literally let infected people fly all around the world for months. I don't know nor care about whether other countries would have done better but I will not consider the main cause and source of the pandemic as some sort of heroes because they happen to be 1.5bn and therefore have the capacity to mass produce at a higher scale than any one else.

I haven't blamed China, I get that in moments of crisis you can make mistakes, I totally accept but I refure to here feckwits act as if China were righteous and the rest are the villains. That is totally asinine.
For months? Maybe I've the wrong information then.

27/12/2019 - doctor shares observations of unknown pneumonia with Wuhan Jianghan CDC.
31/12/2019 - public notice is released and Who is informed.

There were 4 days in between Who being informed and the doctor's observations.

And 3 weeks later they imposed quarantine.

(Yes, in between those dates they pulled some totalitarian propaganda and the doctors got in trouble for saying the outbreak is like SARS).

Isn't that usually how it goes?

Yeah, but is it in a very affluent and like-minded area?
Affluent, I'd have to say yes (albeit a constituency which returned a Labour MP .... oh the shame!).

Like-minded - well the people who were there certainly were.

Thought it was a great speech. Ironically this could turn him into a leader like he’s never been.
Imagine being a new government chucked headfirst into this

Yep, I don't sense much appetite for new faces taking over right now, even from those who hate Fine Gael (which includes me to a certain extent). Feck walking straight into this nightmare.

Do I actively try and catch it in that time then? I have also looked into the dangers but can’t really see what I need to read, is she at an extended risk of getting seriously ill? Is the unborn baby?

China did not isolate itself, they let flights come and go for a while. Or do we ignore that?

Jesus...he's basically holding back tears here. Wow!

I would understand if he talks like that without mentioning China.

But praising China and Ji in this context like that, he seems bought/corrupt to me. But what do i know, just my first impression.

China taking advantage of the crisis to undermine the EU, Russia heavily involved in Brexit and Trump election, America eager to bring the UK under its influence. It seems there's an effort from world superpowers to divide the EU, its basically a fourth superpower and the easiest one to break apart. Russia and China will probably turn their attention to the US after.

This. Also Erdogan helping.

Wouldn't be surprised if China is playing some next-level geopolitics behind the scenes. We'll help you with corona and you'll help us with other things.
