Leo Varadkar just reassuring people, they are going with social distancing and to make sure people look out for others.
Jesus...he's basically holding back tears here. Wow!
I like learning things like this and the creepy visual. Must have made for some interesting theories before finding out the actual reason.
As an aside, wondered why they're a protected species and it says it's "because their numbers have declined so dramatically." Tempting to look at them as loathsome little things after this but they obviously have their part in the ecosystem.
Why what's been said? The Irish address by the taoiseach is kinda hitting it home this is bloody massive, like the end of days massive..
I just thought some mad weirdo was camping out in there or something. Still creepy even when I knew the reason because it was slightly isolated.
There were always bats about where I grew up, you rarely see them and they don’t bother you so I kind of like them. It’s a nightmare for people getting them in their roofs though because you not even allowed to have any work done on your roof without having a bat survey by a government approved bat expert, you have to use really expensive bat friendly roofing felt and so on. This is why the farmer used the radio because he knew it would make selling it for development more complicated with bats in.
How does blaming any single nation helpful to what's at stake?I think even they will finally shut up now, given what's at stake.

I don't think it would hurt people not to be able to go out to eat. We have no restaurants or bars open here, so you make your own meals and eat at home. If you're talking about fast food places, it wouldn't be a bad thing for people to change their diets for a while! Not really. The PM and Chancellor were explicit today multiple times that insurance companies are expected to pay out.
Closing all dining businesses would harm some communities. I think it would be the wrong approach.
Italy I can understand, that they are pissed off.Exactly what Italy is saying behind closed doors. The EU will face some difficult challenges when this is all over.
Well, shit.A "this is the calm before the storm" speech. We don't know when this will be over, the effects will be with us for years, the world is in this together, quoted Churchill, etc.
Nothing much of note just an update but said that it will go on for months and people will die. It was the whole atmosphere of it but was quite scary, I pray we are only preparing for the worst but didn’t seem like it.Why what's been said?
Jesus...he's basically holding back tears here. Wow!
One of the problems is that people tend to make them leave their natural habitat and they end up in even worse places. I seem to remember that it was the case for vampire bats in Mexico.

Send her off to her parents. It's going to be difficult not seeing her, but it's for the best.My girlfriend is pregnant at the moment and has been told to stay away from work for 12 weeks because of it. I’m self employed though and ideally need to work to pay bills. What’s the best thing for us to do? Should she move back to her parents until the time comes if/when I’m in isolation? Or will she be ok staying with me but running the risk of me coming back from work having picked it up? At least with her parents they will be pretty much isolating anyway. We’ve also got the added complication of her brother having cystic fibrosis, so her going back and forth between the 2 houses isn’t an option.
China helped no one when they were hiding the extent of the epidemy and then letting people come and go from China. And now we have people looking at them like heros.
And you think they need the world to teach them this? Anyways, this is aftermath talk. The crisis is still yet to peak.Because it's pointedly their fault and they have to learn from it.
Kind of agree, but at the same time I can understand the sentiment of @Sweet Square here.
I think a lot of people have been surprised at the lack of planning by the World's Superpowers during this crisis (not just U.K's 'planning') - I mean, we've been due a proper Pandemic for literally decades... think of the power and resources of these Governments in the technological age ffs.
You'd think there'd be an immediate model and protocol to follow at the first inkling of a Pandemic.
Indeed as @Di Maria's angel myself and a number of others were so frustrated about in the early days of this very crisis was that you'd have thought there'd have been Global protocol of lockdown the country affected, aid goes in, no-one comes out, get it under control and slowly test the waters until the situation is sorted. This could have been done.
Instead you've got a Global fecking Pandemic, and you've got EVERY country in lockdown anyway.
Think how much gets spent by U.K, U.S, Russia every year on weapons and defence... there shouldn't be such a drastic shortage of ICU beds and resources. Again, the World has been due a Pandemic for decades.
I think it's completely fair for pretty much every Government to come under heavy criticism for lack of planning - they've been caught napping, and have clearly grown complacent in many key areas.
Absolutely determined not to let them get their insurance payouts.
If the government orders all pubs and restaurants shut because of Coronavirus, they still won't be able to claim in a huge percentage of cases.
I used to sell insurance to restaurants and pubs and this sort of thing is just not covered by most policies (and certainly the type of policies small businesses take up, often going for the cheapest they can get that just covers the basics).
They'd be better off burning each others buildings down, as ridiculous as that sounds. Arson is covered, government enforced shutdowns are not.
Boris is a twat but not for this.
Probably because it’s easier to do a deal with the banks to sort mortgages out. Rents are slightly more complicated (who are the landlords?) and so will require a little longer to resolve. Plus they literally can’t sort everything out all at once in 24 hours. Give them a break ffs
I might be one of the few Irish people who genuinely wants ghost town to be the new national anthem .This did make me laugh
Heard some insurance spokesman on the radio thr other day say that hardly anyone takes out the insurance to cover this.
I wonder if football clubs do though.
Do you imagine other countries would have done better than China? It's hard to imagine for me. Obviously we can criticise their initial approach when even they were not sure what they were facing, but since then their approach has been nothing short of remarkable for me. We've world powers like the UK acting clueless at a stage where they are much, much better informed than China was at the time.China helped no one when they were hiding the extent of the epidemy and then letting people come and go from China. And now we have people looking at them like heros.
Other countries would not have arrested and detained the doctor who was warning the other doctors that a SARS-like virus is infecting people.Do you imagine other countries would have done better than China? Yup. It's ridiculous. I argued with @Dante about a world wide lockdown ages ago and now we're seeing exactly that. If I could see that as the best solution over a month ago, how could the so called professionals not? I said it before, and I'll say it again, these deaths are the fault of the the powers in charge. No just complacency, incompetency. I'm utterly disgusted with the way this was handled. So many innocent lives lost because no-one had the intelligence or balls to act.

Yeah but most governments still wouldn’t of believed him, if I went around beforehand saying this in the UK nobody would believe me. China is the cause of this don’t get me wrong but there approach has been excellent they have 1,3 billion people and 21 cases today them and South Korea have this under controlOther countries would not have arrested and detained the doctor who was warning the other doctors that a SARS-like virus is infecting people.
